Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EstoniaThere was dry dog poo near my bed. I told reception, somebody came up and try to clean it by brushing it with a toothbrush and water. The stench became unbearable and I almost vomit. I had to request for another room, at first no other room was available. I heavily insisted and suddenly an empty room appeared. Gave me a room on the same floor. It was good on first sight, I didn't check properly because I was busy, then realised that there was a big booger stuck on the wall above the bed. I asked cleaning staff next day to clean it. Cleaner from Tibet was very kind, nice and helpfull. Staff from front desk knew about the incident and avoided talking to me or apologising or making any eye contact the rest of my stay.
Toilet is clean, good impression, bed is comfortable. Good location (but avoid going street behind the building at night)

JapanThe reception staff have an attitude like they're doing you a favour and you're in the way. Although they can speak English they refuse to. The neighbours were very noisy and banged and shouted in the hall at 3am.
The rooms are clean but that's a standard in Japan.

SwitzerlandThe foul smell of smoke and burn that came from the neighbouring restaurant that tookover the entire room.. I had to open the door to the corridor and put my AC at max in order to get the smell out. It was unbreathable. I even contacted the front desk to make sure there wasn't a fire going on..

JapanAlight, now I will explain in great detail what's happening over there so you have a better understanding of the background of other negative reviews. After being there for myself, I have to say that they have to be substantiated and you should have every reason to believe them. Cleanliness. Being there was gave me a bizarre experience that I never really experienced before. This dissonance of a hotel being new but already run-down. Like everything is technically working and technologies are new, but it's so poorly maintained and cleaned that it might as well be a 20-years old place. Walls had scratches and marks everywhere from people dragging their luggage around. There was a terrible stain on the carpet right in front of the elevator. Shower curtain was moldy. Stains on shiny surfaces like mirrors. Felt very disrespectful. And speaking of disrespect, the icing on the cake: the staff. Specifically, the guy at the front desk whom we initially spoke with. It went like following. I reserved 2 single rooms for 2 people. After coming there, person behind the counter told me that he cannot find the reservation. He was a non-native Japanese speaker and I was speaking in Japanese, so fine, I wrote down my name in the registration sheet. He took that name and after a quick search said that he still cannot find the reservation. He asked me for a email from booking.com with a proof of reservation, which I didn't had with me (fair enough, my bad). While I was trying to retrieve the email, he found some reservation and showed me my name in reversed order (family and given name I mean). I paid for my room, but he was claiming that there's no reservation for a second room, which was for a different guest. Despite our asks to check more thoroughly, he was saying that there's no reservation. And this is where things began to feel like we were scammed. See above for the rest.
Despite what others might say, conveniently located. Sakae is a center of Nagoya, so a lot of things to see and do around. Everything you really want to be clean (bed and bathroom) was clean. [booking.com does not allow long reviews. The following is a continuation of "What didn't you like?" section so read there first] He was saying that if my friend wants to stay right now, he could offer us a room for basically double the price of what I was reserving. Obviously, we didn't agreed to that (because booking.com's terms exists for a reason) and my friend had reserved the other hotel on the spot when suddenly the other person appeared who looked more professional and was acting like the first person's boss. After a quick search, he found the other reservation. They started talking that I had reserved 2 rooms and because now my friend does not want to stay in the other room, they will be treating this as a cancellation, therefor I will need to pay according to the cancellation policy specified at the time of booking (which is a 100% of room fee). They were basically threatening me that they will submit a claim to booking.com and this fee will be charged to my credit card associated with my booking.com account. I was saying that if they want to do this - absolutely fine with me, because I don't have an account over there and whatever negotiations there will be, I will be handling myself with booking.com. My friend was also saying that we will check with booking.com's cancellation policy and take things from there. Then the magic happened. They went together inside a room behind the check-in counter and we heard one person shouting at another. I can only guess what's happened, but after that a senior-looking person said that they will give us a "free" cancellation and that everything is settled.

JapanI informed the lady at the lobby that I will be checking out late around 12pm. She still came to the room knocking loudly around 10am. The cleaning staff talk so loud you can hear them laughing from the inside of the room waking you up around 8-9am.
It was close to the city center.
