Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Our stay at Live Takayama was one of the most beautiful and heartfelt experiences we’ve ever had. Even weeks before our arrival, Hiromi was in close contact with us, patiently helping us arrange a rental car for our trip – with a level of care and kindness that is truly rare. She personally picked us up from the train station and brought us back at the end of our stay. When she found out we were on our honeymoon, she invited us to an exceptional local dinner – a true highlight we will never forget. But it didn’t stop there: she also surprised us with a cake and touching photos of our son together with her dog, Koko – a deeply moving gesture that brought us to tears. Hiromi is not only the kindest host we’ve ever met – she is simply one of the warmest and most caring people we’ve ever encountered. Her dedication and love are evident in every detail – the accommodation itself is thoughtfully designed and meticulously maintained, far exceeding all expectations. We will never forget Hiromi, her husband, and of course, Koko. They have forever earned a place in our hearts. Thank you for everything. 🌸

Hiromi was the most amazing host ever - she went above and beyond in making us feel welcome - providing delicious food and tea. She helped with local recommendations and even reservations. The house was so clean and we were even provided with slippers and pajamas! The room was beautiful - traditional tatami flooring with a lovely calm vibe, also with air conditioning and very comfortable futons! We would recommend this stay to anyone for a traditional and cosy experience.

Hiromi is a very kind and very passionate host who emphasizes on every detail. We stayed in the traditional Japense room and had the best experience during our trip through Japan so far. The location is very close to the morning market and the old town.

JapanI don’t think there were any major issues.
We chose to stay at Live Takayama during our trip to Takayama, and the experience was truly wonderful—beyond our expectations. The guesthouse is about a 15-minute walk from Takayama Station, conveniently located in a quiet area. The house is exceptionally clean and spacious, and the amenities are fully equipped—there’s a hot water kettle, coffee machine, microwave, washing machine, and everything you’d expect from a good hotel, if not more. One of the highlights is the free pick-up and drop-off service. We arrived at Takayama Station late in the evening on our first day, and it was pouring rain. Hiromi, the host, kindly waited for us at the station and welcomed us warmly—something we really appreciated. There are both Japanese-style and Western-style rooms available, and we chose the Japanese-style room this time. It was large, spotless, and beautifully arranged. Futons were already laid out and extremely comfortable, and sleepwear was also provided. Right next to the room was a shower room with both a shower and a bathtub. The toilet is separate, which allows for a proper wet-dry separation—very convenient and hygienic. Breakfast is served daily, with both Japanese and Western options. The Japanese breakfast features delicious rice balls and authentic miso soup, while the Western breakfast includes fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy bread—a perfect way to start the day. Hiromi, the host, is kind and gentle, always ready to help and answer any questions. There’s also an adorable little dog in the house—very quiet and well-behaved. If you're not a fan of dogs, don’t worry—it won’t bother you at all. On our last day, just before we checked out, Hiromi noticed that it was almost my mother’s birthday. She surprised us with heartfelt wishes and even gave a small gift—such a thoughtful and touching gesture that we’ll never forget. Overall, staying at Live Takayama was a comfortable and heartwarming experience. It definitely exceeded my expectations.
