Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyI booked the female dorm for one night. La Union is well located - close to the station and with many shops and bars nearby. The staff is really friendly and also proficient in English. I even forgot my hand towel in my room the morning I checked out but they were so kind and placed it on my luggage in the locker (you can store your luggage in a locker before check-in or after check-out). Everything was also really clean and comfortable. I enjoyed my stay!

JapanNothing in particular. If I had to point at something, perhaps it would be the bed mattress; it was OK, as it was neither very comfortable nor uncomfortable.
The staff here were extremely welcoming and understanding, and the hotel itself was very good value. I had a bed in the mixed dorm (4 beds) and it was very accommodating. My bed had a heated blanket which, while I didn't require it, was still a lovely option to have. The toilets, bathroom and bedroom were clean and well organised, and there was enough space for my bags. I am very grateful to the reception staff for allowing me to leave my bag for a few hours while I went to a temple on the edge of the city, and upon my return they were even curious about my visit; the staff seemed invested in their guests and really go the extra mile. :)

FranceThe room was a bit small for 4 (but just like the pictures so no surprise) with not a lot of space for luggages, and you can hear everything.
Near the train station and bus terminal. The owner (?) was very nice, I dropped off my luggage before check-in and he put it in my room when the cleaning was done. He also gave me advices on what to visit. The mattress can be heated! You have a space to eat near the rooms and a microwave if you want. Nice free toiletries as well.

The beds were incredibly comfortable after a long day of travel. While this was not my first time I had stayed at La Union, I definitely liked it better this time. When I stayed there in 2021 there were no curtains over the bed entrances and this has made a massive difference in comfort and overall sleeping.

Japan- 2 toilets and 1 shower for the entire facility is too little. - ¥4,000 per night is pretty expensive for what it is. - I don’t like the net part on the top half of the bed curtains. I guess it’s for ventilation but it let light in when I tried to sleep early, plus people could see you when you turn your bed lamp on so I don’t like that. - Having the key to open the door instead of a padlock is quite annoying. Imagine if you go brush your teeth in the morning before 10am and forget your key inside the room, you have to make an “emergency call” to the staff and pay ¥1,000 for calling them outside the hours. Luckily it didn’t happen to me but just imagining that I might get charged for an honest mistake due to their late start for morning work hours is irritating. - Location is just okay ish, 10 mins walk from the station. Honestly at ¥4,000 with this value, might as well pay an extra ¥2,000-3,000 to get a room for yourself at one of the hotels that are 1 min walk from the station.
Has a free towel and amenities in the bathroom.

BrazilAlthough the door being electronic was really convenient, it’s quite noisy. Everytime someone entered/left the room I would wake up with the sound of the “engine”/screws (I forgot the word again). Another thing that would disturb my sleep was when someone else in the room opened the curtains of their bunks. The noise of the curtain slides are quite loud, also it had some “holes” on the top (not for bad management, but the style itself was like that), so the light would come into my bunk. My suggestion for this one is, if possible, change it for those that you pull vertically. In another hostel I stayed they had this one, that was like the “curtains” we put in our house or even business door’. It’s not noisy and keeps the light away.
The female dorm was really nice. The matress was amazing, the pillow aswell. Although it wasn’t THAT cold (about 16ºC) there was a warm mat between the matress and the sheets. That one was unexpected. I didn’t turned it on because it wasn’t necessary but it’s rly nice to have it during winter. Only a few min before check out I found that the light was also a wireless phone charger, a good point. A few other things I noticed and was beyong expected from a guest house: hair straightener (I forgot the name in english, but is that electronic device that girls usually use to straighten their hair, or curl sometimes). Shower sponge available, towels and slippers also included for free. The shower got warm quite fast. The keys were functional. The lockers were quite big.

MalaysiaI'm nitpicking here, but the toilets and bathrooms don't have indicators that show if someone is in there.
The staff was very polite, the place was very clean and comfortable, and I really like the design of everything, it has to be one of the best dormitory hotels I've been to. The capsules aren't squeaky, the beds are full-sized with a small tabletop inside.

AustraliaIt is an old building so sound insulation is not the best (they provide free ear plugs though). There is also no lift so may not suit people who cannot walk up stairs or carrying big heavy luggage
The dormitory/ pod sleeping space is spacious and well equipped with power and fan. Many good quality amenities such as face wash and moisturizer are provided. Location is 5-10 mins walk from Fukushima station and there are many restaurants/ shops near by. The host is very friendly and can speak English well.

BahrainGood stuff: - The staff are nice, Atsuki-san (I hope I didn’t misremember his name) speaks English and was very welcoming. - A lot of facilities are available including washing machine, hair dryer and straightener, ear plugs, towels, lotion for UV protection and a bed that can heat up for the cold nights. - The location is relatively well let at night and it’s in a market with a coffee shop beside it and a really good tie restaurant less than a minute walk away. It’s about 20 min to walk to Fukushima station and the path is well let at night. The location is quiet but there are bars around so you may encounter some drunk people at night.
