Nowadays when accommodation process is usually fully automated without meeting with the locals, this is quite a unique occasion. Keiko was super helpfull and made our stay particularly enjoyable.

Everything was wonderful.

If you want to experience a traditional Japanese home, this is it. When we arrived at night by taxi, Keiko the owner was already waiting for us. She made chestnut rice in case we hadn't eaten, which we hadn't (delayed flight). We got whole house to ourselves. House is 2 stories. Downstair - living room, kitchen, bathroom w/ shower, changing room, separate toilet, washing machine outside kitchen. Upstair - 3 tatami bedrooms, small toilet, balcony for hang-drying clothes. Living room has traditional Japanese decor. Well stocked - pots, pans, utensils, fridge, microwave, rice-cooker (rice is free), electric water boiler, knives, scissors, shampoo, body wash, hairdryer. Everything is clean + well maintained. Shower has good water pressure. Bathtub is a little deep to step down so we didn't try. Washing machine is clean. JPY100 per wash. Keiko left JPY100 coins for us. Free detergent. We hang-dried clothes in changing room or balcony - hangers provided. Drying rack in Reception room. Takes 24 hrs to dry in mid-Oct, when it wasn't raining much. AC in house has dehumidifier function that helps for drying inside. Both toilets upstair + downstair are very clean. Bedrooms upstair have tatami mats, mattresses, silk comforters (all traditional Japanese). Easily sleeps 6 people upstair. Umbrellas are available to borrow. (The stair to upstair is quite steep, so it may be difficult for folks with mobility issues.) Appliances in Japan show Japanese only - Keiko puts English translations stickers on main buttons. House is convenient, licensed by government. Neighborhood is quiet + safe. Close to train station for Arashiyama. Close to bus stations to Kiyomizu + Kyoto station. 7-11, Family Mart, Fresco supermarket, eateries are within 5 min walk. We were happy to spend 5 days in Kyoto in this traditional home. Much better than staying in a hotel room. Thank you, Keiko, for the hospitality and always quick responses to our questions.

Just as a fact, it is a small house in a japanese city center, don't expect a balcony with view.

rent your own little japanese city-house for a couple of days. It is fully equiped, very clean and tidy, staff is there regularly and nearby and very helpful. Very nice place to get a glimpse of japanese everyday life. Public transport is easy and very nearby, we used a typical map-app to guide us for itineraries. Konbinis and grocery store also nearby.

Keiko was the most amazing host. She was so kind, funny and informative. She gave us excellent advice on where and when to go to different tourist spots in Kyoto. She was also just a wonderful and charming person who we loved talking with. She has created the most beautiful property to stay in, filled with Japanese culture. The origami figures, the decorative table top statues, the gorgeous alter-like area in the biggest room. The house was a treasure-trove of things to look at. The facilities were great too. A spacious kitchen, full sized fridge, two toilets, lots of books in English and Japanese, some very-needed umbrellas, and 3 separate bedrooms with the comfiest futons, even for my parents who were in their 60's. The location was great too, a little bit out from the touristy part of town meanwhile being on a main road with several bus options which were very regular. We were close to a street with some excellent restaurants, a post office and laundry too which came in very handy. Highly recommend!

The futons were high quality and it was comfortable to sleep in. The house is decorated in a homely way with little fun trinkets. The owner is also very friendly.

It was very nice to have to opportunity to stay in a traditional Japanese house. Keiko was an amazing host and went above and beyond to help us out and make us even more comfortable as one of our party was feeling rather unwell. The house was clean and spacious , the futons were comfortable

The house was very clean, quiet and fully equipped. The location was also good with train station nearby walk. The owner was also very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to staying here again next time we’re in Kyoto!
