Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesPart of the charm is the seclusion. There is a small hill from the train station.
The people working here are so kind. Even as someone who speaks very limited Japanese they made us feel welcomed. The rooms were spacious and charming. The property is a great gateway for KAWAZU waterfalls, ruins and beach.

Quiet location with great sea view. Lovely private baths. Lovely family run place. The Japanese breakfast was fantastic! Walking distance to Kawazu along the coast. The nearby village was very cute and the coast is beautiful. I highly recommend Bar&Records Delmonico's, it was a very cool place with great music and the shaved ice was very tasty.

South AfricaThe hospitality was brilliant!! This was an emersion in Japanese culture and I enjoyed every moment - from leaving my shoes at the entrance, wearing a kimono to the private onsen, the huge room with tatami flooring to the excellent Japanese breakfast. I stayed for 5 nights and this was not enough! The hotel is uphill and my room had a lovely view downhill and over the sea shore. Vending machines are available downstairs. The hotel is in a very quiet environment. I sprained my ankle quite badly and the owner offered to take me back to the station, which I really appreciated

HungaryIf you go there by train you need to walk up a small hill which can be quite hard with luggages.
The best thing about this hotel is its owner and workers. They were really nice and helpful durint our stay. When we checked out it was raining quite heavily and we didnt have any umbrella on us, so they gave us 2 for free, and they also gave us a ride to Kawazu station. Even though they don’t speak very good english they are super nice. Its a beautiful small hotel on a small hill, the view is quite nice to the mountains and to the ocean as well. The hotel has two private onsens, which can be used basically whole day and night.

FranceIt was a bit far from the train station. I would recommend coming by car. The price was a bit high (but it can be explained by the Kawazu Festival).
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The onsen was very nice. The room was very nice (the walls were a little thin).

TurkeyKokoronodoka is nestled in the scenic hills above the stunning Imaihama Beach, just one station away from the famous Kawazu cherry blossoms. Its location is incredibly convenient—only a four-minute walk from the Imaihama-kaigan station. We stayed at this ryokan for two days and had an amazing experience. The manager personally attends to each guest with great care, offering a true showcase of Japanese hospitality. I highly recommend booking a room with an ocean view to make the most of the serene surroundings and enjoy a larger, better-insulated space. There are two private-use baths, each featuring both an indoor and outdoor section, allowing for a truly relaxing soak. Breakfast, served in the common dining hall at 8 a.m., was hearty and satisfying. However, I strongly recommend reserving the dinner in advance—it’s a full-course feast of local delicacies, including a beautifully arranged sashimi platter, fresh wasabi, flatfish crackers, and the region’s specialty, kinmedai simmered in soy-based nitsuke sauce. Dinner is served in your room at 6pm, allowing for a private and immersive ryokan dining experience. What truly sets this place apart is the warmth of the hospitality. We didn’t just enjoy our stay—we had engaging conversations, learned new things, and felt genuinely welcomed. The manager even offered to take photos of us without us asking, capturing beautiful moments of our trip. Both my husband and I left with the feeling of having stayed with family. We will definitely return in the future. For the best experience, I recommend having at least a conversational level of Japanese.

United KingdomThis was nothing on the cleanliness of the property as it was spotless! But, unfortunately my allergies were flaring up (I'm not sure if it's the old wooden style of room or not) but I was sneezing like crazy. So, any people prone to dust allergies/asthma just be cautious and bring antihistamines/inhalers.
This is perfect if you would like a traditional Japanese experience. It is a little outside of Kawazu town centre and up a very large hill to my surprise. I definitely suggest using Imaihama-kaigan station to access the property. The staff were lovely, warm and welcoming and couldn't do more for you throughout the stay! I honestly loved my experience. The food was unique and exceptional and different every day. Also suggest stocking up on snacks as there is no convenience stores close by and most eateries are only open thurs-sun so be aware you may need to go elsewhere if you don't eat at the property. The also leave the cutest japanese cookie for you upon arrival! Such a sweet touch! And daily you can select from a new kimono to wear around the property! I felt very pretty in all the different patterns. The onsen was a dream come true. I had no issues using it whenever I wanted as the property doesn't share with many people. Showers are available 24hrs but onsen only from 10am. I would love to come back but I'm not sure my allergies would.

United KingdomEverything was great, the wifi was a little slow which was only a problem for me as I had some work to do over there. But it is fine if you are there to relax, which is what it is for.
The breakfast was absolutely divine! It was excuisitely prepared by the chef every morning, with a large selection of local delicacies. You will be fuelled for a long day of exploring Kawazu and Izu.

I like the onsen. The Japanese breakfast. The very friendly staff. The closest way to drop your suitcase is from the train station, just before Kawazu station , Imaihama Kaigan Station. (avoid the steps , use the road)

SingaporeThere were only 2 private onsen baths and showers (the rooms only have a toilet) for all the guests, so you have to be prepared to wait. It's fine at night but hard to get the room in the morning. Perhaps each room could come with its own shower at least?
Amazing staff who made our day every morning during breakfast. He was cheerful, friendly and gave us recommendations for the area. Breakfast was the best. So rich and filling, we were able to skip lunch on both days! Liked that the onsen was private. Large and comfortable traditional Japanese room.

United Kingdomthe room did look a bit worse for wear in places. Ie, the screens and the tatami was looking old. I think a little attention to the rooms and it would be perfect. We didn't know about the hotel offering dinner, no option of it on the booking and the staff didn't mention it at check in so was a little disappointed we missed out on that.
Great staff. Lovely facilities, Free private baths were a great bonus. The rooms were nice, with good air conditioning and a good TV. Breakfast was incredible. Overall this was a great stay and I would recommend it. The staff were really friendly and nice, the location was lovely and scenic. And the baths were clean and lovely in the evening. Thank you!
