Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Everything. The beautiful location, the excellent food, the friendly efficient staff, the quiet relaxing atmosphere. Bathing in our private onsen at night listening to the breeze rustling through the bamboo felt almost magical

SingaporeA decadent and special treat. Everything looks, feels and is 5 star. Our room was stunning and massive and the onsen on the balcony was fabulously relaxing. The kaiseki dinner is not to be missed. Everything we tried was meticulously presented and tasted delicious. The lounge and bar areas were also lovely and the menu quite extensive. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing escape that still feels like a treat, stay here. There is a spa onsite, we weren’t able to experience it due to availability, but if you’re keen on an extra treat, id suggest booking a slot ahead with the hotel ahead of your arrival.

United StatesThe only complaint is that since its at the base of the mountain, the buses to get up to Hakone or down to the station can fill up very quickly. I'd recommend getting a taxi, which the hotel is happy to arrange for you. We declined not knowing the buses would be full, which unfortunately made us miss our shinkansen. But if your schedule is a lot more lax, it shouldn't be as much of an issue.
This hotel is the definition of luxury. Beautiful lobby and the rooms are ENORMOUS even by western standards. Even the standard rooms are essentially suites. The rooms were luxurious and the amenities are beyond any that I have ever seen. The cost is definitely higher than most but it is definitely justified for the private onsen and spa-like amenities. The staff was so incredibly kind as they checked us in with welcome-drinks, helped us pink out our yukatas and gave us a tour of the rooms and facilities.

ChinaHere’s an English review based on your experience: **Review:** The hotel is conveniently located near the train station, with a direct bus stopping right at its entrance. As we approached the hotel, staff warmly greeted us with a bow—a lovely touch of Japanese-style hospitality. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and the lounge offered a great selection of complimentary beverages, including alcoholic drinks. We also appreciated the complimentary minibar in our spacious room, which featured a private onsen with a scenic view. The service was exceptional, especially from Zhan, who went above and beyond to ensure a seamless stay. Upon hearing our needs, he proactively assisted us and even checked shuttle bus details despite us not using it. Notably, while previous reviews mentioned language barriers with staff, the hotel has clearly taken feedback to heart: Zhan, originally from Jiangxi, China, delivered impeccable Japanese-style service while effortlessly communicating in Chinese—a standout detail that deserves praise. This thoughtful blend of cultural authenticity and guest-centered improvements makes this hotel a top choice.

The best food I have ever had and the staff were amazing. They saw on my passport that my birthday was in a few days and gave me dessert with happy birthday on it which was really nice. They saw room is great and I love you can change the temperature of the Onsen so you can stay in it longer.

United StatesAbsolutely nothing!
Amenities and dinner were exceptional. The staff were extremely helpful and went the extra mile to make our stay special. The room was comfortable and relaxing and offered a different side to Japan centered more on the nature and just how beautiful Hakone is. We came for a big celebration and an unexpected change of plans left us asking staff for a great deal of help in trying to accommodate a long itinerary. Staff were extremely patient and helpful in making this happen. They took exceptional care in making sure we had a take-away meal for our very early departure. That day ended up being the most memorable of our entire trip.… We owe our most precious memories of our trip to the staff and we can’t thank you enough!

Hong Konga little more details can be added: - selections of snacks or maybe ice cream available after the hot spring - shower gel and shampoo should be kept in the shower area (i had to run out and fetch coz it wasn't in the shower room) - a dry stool for us to put our towels next to the open air onsen
the presentation of the hotel and the environment, over all is a great experience

United StatesDuring the time I came here (October) season, I noticed the mosquitoes at the hotel were huge. Although I know the hotel is in the mountains, I didn't find bug spray in the room or outdoors near the balcony. That would probably be the only thing I recommend but I have nothing I didn't like about this hotel. Everything was met with beyond expectation.
What did I like...I believe it is what did I loved and still love about this place. It far exceeded my expectations. The location requires taking a bus or taxi if you're coming from Odawara Station, but it is about a 15 min ride. Right when we arrived, a staff was waiting at the front gate to welcome us. From the check-in experience and staff showing us our room as well as going through dinner plans for the night was so detailed and amazing. The room was very big and everything you needed was available. The private onsen tub was impeccable and provided a beautiful view outside. Dinner was delicious and memorable. Every step of our dinner journey was followed with amazing service and a wonderful night with my partner. Breakfast was truly magical and relaxing. We chose the traditional Japanese breakfast and the food was perfect for the day. I would love to come back here

GermanyIt was a extraordinary and unique experience to stay at the Kinnotake Tonosawa for one night. The hotel staff was really committed and attentive and we really loved the Onsen in our room. The dinner and breakfast was served with very much attention to details and I was inspired about the devotion of the japanese staff at their jobs. It's a pity that we couldn't stay there for more days. ありがとうございます for this wonderful experience!
