Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanThe place is just a few minutes walk from JR station which is super convenient. The host is friendly and helpful, sharing lots of information about the city with me. The restroom and toilet is clean with shampoo and body wash provided. The bed is spacious enough and comfortable. I will definitely come back in the future!

JapanThe Kincha Guesthouse was a perfect stop for travelers in Tochigi—incredibly well positioned, comfortable, and kindly staffed. The host, Mr. Nao was absolutely spectacular, and very knowledgeable about the region and areas people should explore. As a traveler himself, he was well equipped to provide insightful suggestions and fascinating tidbits on the region’s specialties and what to look out for.

United StatesSmall fridge, no freezer, no kitchen, though that's in the description of the property already.
Location is extremely close to the station and mall, along with the main street. Lots of options to eat out (mostly gyoza, which Utsunomia is known for). Beds were super comfy. I loved that it was part of a home, and so it felt more cozy than the sterile apperance of a hotel. Good common room to meet other guests with low sofas and tables. Bathroom was large. There were also toilets/sinks upstairs and downstairs. Owner is super funny and offered me natto and his favorite snack to try.

UruguayThough we speak only a bit since we stayed for just the night, Mr Kageyama was probably the nicest host we had in Japan, contacting us after we left to check out our stay was good and giving us recomendations were to go. It is a honest traditional japanese house, not a hotel that pretends to be one, so is nice staying in the real deal. Really close to the train station as well

United StatesJust a short walk from the station, this traditional Japanese guesthouse has everything you could possibly need from comfy beds to clean bathrooms. The owner was really hospitable, friendly, and always considerate of his guests and we had many good and informative conversations together. This was one of the best guesthouses I’ve been to in Japan, and I can’t wait to visit it once more.

IndonesiaI have stayed in many guesthouses before, and this is one of the shared houses I like the most. It is very clean and comfortable. The common space is also cozy. It is very close to Utsunomiya Station and just a 2-minute walk to the best gyoza restaurant in Utsunomiya. The host is very nice. If I visit Utsunomiya again, I will definitely stay at this guesthouse. Highly recommended!

JapanDuring the night, my bag fell off my bed! So I wish there was some kind of barrier around the upper beds. Also, I wear glasses and had a bottle of water, but there was no shelf to put them anywhere in the bed. Even some very small shelf would be very helpful. Facilities are VERY simple, but good for the price.
Great location, comfy beds and very friendly owner who explained very quickly and well. I was only there for a short time, but he was warm and made me feel welcome. I appreciate when foreign guests are not treated differently from Japanese guests.

United StatesNone worth mentioning considering how much you are paying.
The guesthouse is owned by a former backpacker so he understands how 2 cater to us travelers..from direction to recommendations and stories of his journeys of places you probably will never get to go. He is also cleans the place and takes the time to fold the little triangles on the toilet paper roll. The location is worth the stay alone considering how inexpensive it is & extremely close to the Utsunomiya train station. There is a supermarket that is 5 min walk away that closes at 10pm which is very convenient. Microwave & a small refrigerator are located in the lounge area if you need to store some snacks/drinks. The standup lockers provided are huge which is unheard of for a guesthouse/hostel in Japan. They can easily fit your standard carryon but not your huge checkin luggage or multi-day backpack made for trekking. The dormitory bedroom was very comfortable. Equipped with a A/C unit/heater so you can set the temperature if you like. Don't waste your time with hotels or other hostels. THIS IS THE SPOT!!!
