Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsOther guests were noisy and one night we could hear music from a nearby establishment. The single shared toilet on the upper floor is in a tiny room and next to another guest room.
Location was excellent. Lovely traditional ryokan experience in the rooms and communal bathroom. Strong iced coffee was always available in the lobby.

United StatesAfter we checked in, we didn’t see the host again. We wanted to ask about doing laundry but couldn’t find him to ask.
Lovely little spot tucked away. Kind owner and beautiful shared bath. We had no issues waiting for the bath— in fact, we didn’t see any other guests there. The room was spacious and had AC.

HungaryIt was only 1 toilet and 1 bathroom outside of the room for all the guests.
It was a real Japanese style accomodation. The breakfast was very delicious and had a lot of kind of dishes which I really liked.

CanadaAfter a day of walking, sightseeing it was great to have the comfortable yukatas to slip on and hot water and tea ready in our room. Loved having complimentary coffee ready each morning to start our day. Bathroom facilities were well lit and toilet state of the art. Comfortable futons and quilts. Proprietor was very responsive. Walking distance to beautiful Kenrokuen Garden, museums and Kanazawa station.

United KingdomLoved the Ryokan style room. Lovely and friendly host - helped me with my luggage, updated my booking from 2 persons to 1 person on arrival when requested (remove a mattress etc to make more space), helped ring a local restaurant for booking. I absolutely loved the location - was close to and well connected to the places I wanted to see. I also stayed out later both nights which seemed fine as long as you observe the quiet hours. The room size was perfect for one with luggage. There is one bathroom with showers and an Onsen/bath - but haven't had to wait for longer than 10 mins both days of my stay.

AustraliaThe stairs up to the sleeping quarters were very steep, a bit of a problem for older travellers with luggage. If having a comfortable pillow is important to you I recommend taking your own.
The onsen bathroom was excellent and allowed for private bathing. The rooms were a good size and reasonably priced. The location was great, close to key attractions.

United StatesThe location was exceptional: easy walking to delicious restaurants, great shopping & Kenroku-en. The price was very reasonable, thus the ryokan is a great value. I appreciated the wonderful hospitality of hot water & tea in our room. The lovely fresh camellia in our room was a nice bonus!

United StatesCan't think of anything. This is an older house with traditional tatami mats and futon for sleeping, which was very comfortable. Not a good choice if you want western-style rooms, but completely redone bath and western toilets, very modern and sparkling clean. Most of the rooms are upstairs, but we had luggage that would have been a struggle, so the owner put us on the ground floor. I think it's family-run, limited English, but wonderful people.
No breakfast at the hotel, but there was a department store with a food court in the basement within a 7-minute walk, and the bento boxes were fantastic! Close to Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Park. Cabs were available from the department store, so we used them to get to and from the train station (about 15 minutes by cab, about 20 minutes by bus).

AustraliaIt's not a fancy place but it's very cute and homely. The decor is a bit daggy but it's all immaculately cared for - feels like my grandma's house. I asked for breakfast on my first morning and it was all prepared beautifully. You've got to wait to use the room with the showers & bath in it but it wasn't a problem for me.

United StatesThe only thing that wasn't spectacular was the wifi (but that may have been specific to our room).
Excellent location and very cozy room. The ryokan is tucked away on a quiet street that is within easy walking distance of Kanazawa Castle Park, Oyama Shrine, Kenroku-en garden, and the Nagamichi District. It's a really beautiful neighborhood to walk around. The family that runs this place is super nice, and the place itself felt very cozy and homey. We only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer.

BrazilNothing, I really liked everything.
The property is very traditional, so you can really get the full experience of a Japanese ryokan. I slept in a futon, took baths in a traditional setting, ate Japanese breakfast. Overall it was a very relaxing experience. The owners are very friendly and speak good English.
