Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaWe did not know what was being served for dinner and breakfast. Maybe some information and guidelines should be provided to tourists who try japanese cuisine for the first time.

AustraliaThe wifi was terrible. Dropping in and out and only 1 or 2 bars most times. They need to hire more staff that know better English.
It’s location as it is perched on a hill. Very quite and exclusive. Their Breakfasts and Dinner were outstanding.

ItalyFantastic hotel very close to the cable car station and bus station from Hakone Yumoto. It is perfect for spending some days in the Hakone area and enjoy the beautiful nature. Onsen allows guests to relax, but there is also the possibility to have some fun playing ping pong or read a book in a dedicated area. Needless to say, staff was fantastic: kind, helpful, ready to answer questions about the area and what to do. Great service the free shuttle to Gora station. Food (dinner, breakfast) prepared with dedication and attention to any need (myself: gluten free) was simply delicious. I really recommend this place to anyone.

AustraliaWe enjoyed the included dinner and breakfast but as we are unfamiliar with the traditions, would have liked a photo map to read telling us what things are, and also how they should be combined/eaten, and if an order to eat things is expected. We enjoyed the experience though.
This was a small ryokan which allowed exposure to traditional Japan. The room size is very large by Japanese standards. We loved using the Onsen but would have liked to be able to book a time to use onsen as a couple together.

CroatiaI recently stayed at this hotel and was genuinely impressed, especially by the incredible politeness and professionalism of the staff. From the moment I arrived, every interaction was warm, respectful, and attentive. The front desk greeted me with a smile, helped with my luggage, and patiently answered all my questions with great courtesy. Housekeeping and restaurant staff were equally kind, always greeting me with a bow. Even small requests were handled with care and without hesitation. You could truly feel that the staff take pride in their work and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable.

United KingdomAs advertised, the meals provided are traditional Japanese meals. These were well prepared but would benefit from a guide/menu so you can work out what you’re eating/how to eat them, as most was unfamiliar to us.
Very enjoyable stay for one night. Really clean and surprisingly large bedrooms. The onsen were especially good and the staff were all friendly and helpful.

United KingdomThe typical beds have a very thin mattress so if you have back problems or are not used to it, it may be a bit uncomfortable.
Spacious rooms, generous dinner portions and two different types of onsens (indoors and outdoors) made this an ideal getaway from the fast paced cities of Japan. Only a walk away from the cable car and well connected with a bus to other points of interest and Odawara Station rendered the location convenient.

United StatesThe food was top-tier. The service was excellent. They offer a ride from the train station to the hotel. It's on top of a steep mountain. I think their spa is pulled from the Owakudani mountain so there is a strong sulfur smell throughout the whole hotel. Sulfur bath is really good for deep relaxation. The smell is strong and there may have been water damage in the rooms at one point.

United StatesThe onsen was a little lack luster. The location is also a little awkward. There's no convenient way to get here from the cable station than just a 10 minute walk downhill on the sidewalk. With luggage this can be a problem.
Really nice place. Very friendly staff - the woman at the front desk was so nice, she even shuttled us down to Gora station. The meals were also excellent! The best I had at any hotel during my stay.

EstoniaI had a very pleasant stay at HAKONE GORA ONSEN Hotel Kasansui. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, making it a great place to unwind for a few days. The meals were a real highlight—beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared. Each course offered something unique, and it was clear a lot of attention went into the ingredients and flavors. I also really enjoyed the onsen facilities. The baths were clean and peaceful, providing a nice break from the busyness of everyday life. The overall setting of the hotel added to the relaxing experience. Overall, I’d recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet escape with good food and a quality onsen experience.
