Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanOur room is clean and decent but on the wall and sliding door have some cracks so better fix them as looks old and no care of the cracks.
From bath 🛁, the view was great. The male stuff who has darker skin and little gray hair was so attentive and professional to serve us with his great hospitality. We got an impression.

HungaryThe hotel needs some renovations, but it doesn't bother us much.
The hotel is a bit like an old-style wellness hotel in Europe, but the Japanese-style room was spacious and comfortable. The staff doesn't speak English, but they are very helpful and kind. The Japanese-style dinner and breakfast were excellent and delicious. The view from the onsen was astonishing. We enjoyed our stay very much.

JapanThe toilet had a bit of a funky smell. However, we didn't mind too much, and the staff and amenities more than made up for it!
The food and the hot spring were the highlight of the trip! We were pleasantly surprised by the multiple-course dinner and the breakfast buffet. The staff was also very accommodating and polite. Me and my friends completely missed booking a spot on the free shuttle bus to get to the hotel, but luckily, the kind bus driver managed to fit us in and took us all the way to the front door without complaints! Overall, Kamenoi Hotel made for a memorable place to stay in Atami.

United StatesDinner was disappointing. Set meal that was prepared too far in advance, with uninteresting food that was only mediocre. Not what I expect from onsen food. Time the onsen is open is limited. No consideration was given to dinner time given that we were traveling with two small children who do not stay up late. There was no opportunity to book an earlier dinner when we reserved the room, ad by the time we got there the earliest available was 7pm, way too late for children. The bus to leave was also fully booked by the time we arrived.
Breakfast is plentiful and varied.

ItalyConsidering the price, I was expecting more facilities - maybe a relaxation room, a library, a nice lounge area. The room had a nice terrace, but the outside space wasn't equipped with seats and a table, which would have been nice.
Great onsen, with a lovely view on the bay. Great shuttle bus service from the station!

JapanSome areas of the hotel could be cleaner. This had nothing to do with the age of the hotel.
The ocean view from our 8 tatami room was beautiful. The Japanese and foreign staff were extremely friendly. The breakfast buffet was plentiful.

JapanThe air conditioning was weak, so it felt humid causing me to sweat when I moved a lot. As mentioned in the pros of the hotel, a nearby residential building can see you naked if you are not careful when using their outdoor onsen. There’s a sign warning of this, but it’s most likely in Japanese, which was why I didn’t notice it. The hotel is up in a hill with no stores nearby. The closest 7-11 is 1.1km away and takes at least 15 minutes on foot. You get an amazing workout walking back up to the hotel.
The ocean view from room 204 was amazing. It’s also one of 3 rooms with a rooftop balcony. The rooms were spacious. The restaurant has a similarly spectacular view, and the breakfast buffet was wonderful. At night, they offer guests a complimentary bowl of ramen. There’s a small shop for snacks and souvenirs and karaoke rooms bookable for ¥2200/hour. The male and females onsen sections swap the next morning, so you get to joy 2 different layouts. Both sides have an outdoor tub with an amazing view. But beware: a nearby residential building can totally see you naked if you stand upright. There’s a warning sign, but I didn’t notice it possibly because it was in Japanese. At night, that building of hardly visible, so I gave them a good show unknowingly. lol

United KingdomI was slightly disappointed by the spa. The grand spa had only two baths, and the semi-outdoor bath( Han-roten buro) wasn't completely outdoor, just a big open window. My teenage son didn't want to go to the public bath, but there was no bath or shower in the room.
Good food, view, and amenities. Although the hotel is in the middle of a hill and a bit of a walk to the public transport, they offer a free shuttle bus, and some less frequent public buses leave in front of the hotel.

Canada1. Check in Staff insisted NO ENGLISH, which is fine (but no maps, brochures or options in english). They provided time options for meals, but when we asked to change, they said 'not allowed' or 'cannot guarantee' nor can they express what they tried to say, and left us hanging with no answer. Overall the staff was not friendly about this in helping us out. 2. We ordered a DELUXE dinner menu, but food quality was below average (which is very rare in Japan standard), but definitely not worth the money. Also, in case u ordered the DELUXE menu it is pretty much the 'exact same' dish on the second day (unlike other hotels with a slight variation). However, the main concern was food quality was quite poor. 3. Photos of public bath (women's) did not meet expectations. The bath is extremely small, it was a small round tub already crowded with 6 women in it to a point we were sitting side by side (like on the train)! Even though we paid for 2 nights, we ended up skipping the public bath the second night....it was not worth it.
The view of the room and the space of the room was nice and up to expectations. The dining area's view was also magnificent to see the view of the ocean.

United StatesI didn’t know there is a shuttle bus from train station to hotel, so I walked all the way to the hotel, it’s pretty tiring walk to the hill with luggage. But the view along the way is nice. Only if I didn’t have luggage that’s will be a pleasant walk. But I took the shuttle back to the train station. That’s a plus!
I love the dinner and buffer breakfast. That’s best dinner and breakfast ever I had. I didn’t expect that amazing 7 course dinner with vip service. The buffet Japanese breakfast is die for. The room is big, plus you can have open air bath most of the time. It’s highlight of trip! Strongly recommend!

PolandIt’s older and sometimes there are small things like dents in the door that should be fixed. Toilet in our room smell a little - probably it used to be smoking room years ago, but getting rid of tabaco smoke is hard). Also the localization is not great. We took taxi a few times. If you are on the budget there are buses going to the hotel that are a little bit cheaper than taxi.
The hot springs were great. Clerks were nice and reception was nice. There is small shop and some vending machines. We took Japanese room with tatami mats and it was great. The place is definitely great when you want to spend veeeeeeery slow vacation. With going to bath, reading, watching some movie etc. The hotel itself could be renovated and sometimes you can feel that some rooms were smoking ones long time ago (you can smell it most in the toilet). Buuuuut the price to quality ratio is great so I do not mind it not being perfect it was more than good enough for money. I’m not sure if there is AC in the rooms you should check it. There was heating in the room that we used after bathing.
