Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe ceilings were low, and my tall western husband kept hitting his head going from room to room- he often remembered to duck, but not always. The biggest size of yukata offered for the hot spring was 175 cm for men, he is 190 cm, so… The room had lots of visible wear, which would be fine, if it were also clean, it was not up to the standard I have come to expect in Japan. There was mildew in the shower room which I was able to clean off the tiles myself before showering- and dust in many corners of the suite. The view was nice, but obstructed and the chairs don’t move so you can see better out the window, and the carpeted area was in bad shape with stains. Water damage on walls in main area, musty smell throughout room.
The location was close to the beach, restaurants and some shopping. Family Mart and 7-11 down the hill for last minute needs. Very spacious rooms/suite with a retro vibe that can’t be replicated. If you want to experience nostalgia for a bygone era of late 80’s early 90’s Japan, this is the place. Plenty of room for a family. Hotspring is nice, feels like a place where locals come to get away for less.

JapanThe only thing I might take off a point for was the buildings blocking the view of the sea from our room, but not a big deal.
The food was really good. Really fresh fish and types of fish you don't often see. Everything was clean, staff was really nice. The room was old-fashioned but nice. We all have a lot of tattoos so we were worried about the onsen but there are several private ones with a good view. I'd stay there again. Great deal for the price.

The traditional Japanese room with a sea view was enormous by Japanese standards. The room was absolutely stunning . Very clean and comfortable. I brought my two young children so the rooftop private onsen baths were the highlight of the hotel stay. Staff at reception were very friendly.

United Statesthis hotel is in a great location, central to everything. The rooms are large, our room was a tatami room. The furniture is a little bit dated, but it was very comfortable. It had a great view of the ocean. The absolute best thing about this hotel are the rooftop open-air onsens. They had seven different onsen to choose from and they were all private and you could look out over the ocean and if you got there early in the morning you could see the sunrise. It was absolutely magnificent. They had stone bathtubs as well as wood bathtubs. I went there multiple times during our stay. The water was deliciously hot, and the view was just incredible.

SingaporeNothing, everything was great.
The room was very spacious and well maintained. Loved the meals provided and especially the sashimi platter which was so fresh and offered a great variety of seafood. Staff was friendly and we loved the private rooftop onsen which allowed us to catch a memorable sunrise. The hotel is within manageable walking distance from the Atami train station and we can walk easily to the 2 main shopping streets. There is also a good sized supermarket just steps away. The must visit Kinomiya Shrine is also accessible by foot from the hotel. Would love to stay here again if we revisit.

JapanThere was a smell in the room from decades of use and perhaps cigarettes but within in a few minutes I didn't notice it. The lights were a bit too white as to be expected from hotels of this era.
The location was great with a good view. Loved the rooftop baths and overall atmosphere. A really nice design that you wouldn't get these days, peak Atami vibes.

United KingdomOnly the 2-pin wall outlet was available, and I couldn't charge my laptop that needs the 3-pin type. The location is on a very awkward hill. So a taxi is recommended for those with large luggage.
The Japanese style room was very spacious and comfortable, and the futon was already made. Felt luxurious. Open air onsens were big, with great view of the seaside

JapanThe hotel is a little bit old, but if you like hotels which have history then you won’t mind! Personally, I liked the nostalgic vibe. My partner wasn’t so keen - just depends on your preference!
The location is fantastic. Just a short walk to the beach and many restaurants. The nostalgic and traditional feel of the room was really nice. The rooftop private baths are a great concept. The staff were very helpful and kind, too.

Australia- Hotel and rooms were definitely a bit dated so they could do with a refresh - There weren't any non-smoking rooms so there was a slight smell that lingered (wasn't very offensive though and was easily fixed with the A/C)
- Room was massive for 2 people - could've definitely fit a family - Great view of the beach from our room - There were 5 private onsens on the rooftop - they were all amazing and had the most stunning views. It was also easy to see which onsens were available as there were lights next to the elevators which showed their availability - There was the option of sleeping on proper beds or on the futon - we opted for the latter - Staff were very accommodating and could converse in English with us - Toilet was separate to the shower room which we personally prefer - In room breakfast and kaiseki dinner was great (heavy on the seafood though but it was to be expected considering the location) - Hotel had private parking nearby for a small daily fee - Walkable distance to the Atami Ginza strip which has lots of restaurants/shops around

ChinaThe price of a stay at the firework show night was quite higher than usual. But consider the location of this hotel, the comfortable that we didn't have to rush for the train right after the firework show was over, especially the bonus ticket to the designated area where there was the best view of firework, it worth the price.
This was my first international family trip after the COVID-19 pandemic, and this hotel was our first stay. My colleague recommended the firework show on July 26 night at Atami, so I booked this hotel in a hurry. Now it turned out that was a very good choice! The room is in traditional Japanese style, with an indoor area like a balcony that has the sea view. The futon beds are quite cozy, and the air-conditioner is just right for a comfortable night of sleep. The staff are very nice, they did their best to help me, from check-in, borrow the kimono, all the way to help me call a taxi to the JR Atami station. I can only use English to communicate with the staff, yet I found no difficulty in expressing myself and getting the answers. They offered each one in my family a special "ticket", which eligible us for an area that has the best view of the firework show over the sea. I would definitely come back if I were to visit Atami again.

United StatesWe enjoyed the newly renovated roof top onsens that have cold water faucets to adjust the heat of the onsen and the great view of Atami’s bay that made this place a delightful experience! The dinner and breakfast service is highly recommended. Oishi!! The staff was attentive and generous with their time presenting a generous and unique assortment of local Japanese cuisine.
