Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaLike some said the distance to town can be a bit on the long side, but Sato generously offered a bike to use, so it was super convenient and easy to get everywhere. So no overall complaints!
Was a gorgeous property with a lovely surrounding area and view from the balcony. It was lovely having my own Japanese style room and balcony to sit on to enjoy the view and listen to nature. Sato the owner was super welcoming and made me feel at home during my stay. I would definitely recommend his place to everyone!

United StatesMainly location. Basically 20 minutes into what starts to feel like the middle of nowhere. If it were more centrally located it’d probably have been a phenomenal experience
Nice little house on the outskirts of the town. Really pretty house and pretty good pricing, plus fresh onsen water from a hot spring across the street

ItalyThe place is very quiet and has everything you need. It is a little far from the station if you have a luggage but at a totally walkable distance if you travel with a backpack, only be mindful that the road is pretty dark when the sun goes down. The host is also very kind and considerate.

Convenient location. 15 minutes walk / 5 Minute drive to Kawazu station and the main Sakura Street. Sato San is the most amazing host. He even dropped us to the station with our luggage. A great hot water tub to unwind after the day! Very cozy rooms.

United KingdomYou can explore the area quite well using public transport but having a car would be beneficial.
Staying at Kajikaen was quiet and peaceful and a welcome break from busy cities and tourists. The house is clean and cosy and the WiFi was good. I enjoyed sleeping on a futon and was very comfortable. The house is walking distance from the station, bus stop, supermarkets and the beach. Sato is a gracious host and it was a pleasure to meet and chat with him.

JapanLoved the location and opportunity to use a private onsen. I was a bit concerned about staying in a guest house, primarily about its cleanness, but the place was spotless (even veranda))

BelgiumIt's not a really big deal but it's located about 20 minutes away from the station on foot. On a hot day, it can seem a bit long. But other than that, the walk is nice.
The place is a bit isolated, surrounded by nature. You hear the cicadas and the river at all times, which is really peaceful. The room was very comfortable and cosy. Everything was very clean. Sato, the host, was friendly.

JapanThe house is located away from the station, but this was not a problem - in 15 minutes on foot you can walk to the station, supermarket and restaurants
Very nice place. The house has a common living room, kitchen, mineral water bath, toilets, as well as private rooms with a balcony. The owner showed me to see fireflies, which was very nice.

ItalyThe location is like 20 minutes walking from the station, it was not a real problem for me but take it in mind when you chose to book here.
The house is traditional style and amazing, you can enjoy the private Onsen. The room is comfortable. I was the only guest that day so the host took me to the seven waterfalls by car. So kind. Thank you

United StatesThe host was very welcoming and accommodating for English speakers! We stayed in Kawazu for the cherry blossom season, and the location was very affordable and an easy walking distance from the main town. It was very nice to be in an extremely quiet town to get a good night's rest and experience living in a traditional Japanese home for a bit too!

SingaporeThe only thing I found to be inconvenient was the distance in walking with a luggage. But I must stress that it’s not that much and it’s a very pleasant walk.
The host, Sato San is absolutely amazing. He’s kind and genuine with a genuine care for guests and the property. It’s homestay but in my eyes that’s a good thing because you get to talk with the hosts and learn so much more about Japan and everything than you would otherwise from a sanitized hotel experience. I’d come back a hundred times.
