Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandLeaving, it was hard to say goodbye
We loved staying here as the atmosphere is very relaxing, cozy and chilled, it is just few minutes walk to Kabira bay and aprox 10min cycling to the big beach of Sukuji, roads are very quiet and surrounded by nature. Many different restaurants less than 5 min walk, even though Joyas restaurant is one of the best with lovely traditional tables and music. The Japanese futon beds were also very comfortable and they actually got rid of our back aches! but the best of our stay were the people, they made us feel at home. We got some rainy days and it didn't bother us as we were so comfortable.

South KoreaThis hotel is in a very convenient location. I was able to enjoy Kabira Bay again and again because it was so close. Also, there is a bus stop right across the street. On top of that, the owner is very kind and friendly. I had a great stay.

SwitzerlandThe room was quite basic and as an European, I was missing any chair to sit on instead on the tatami. Please note when booking the room that you might get a Japanese-style room with a futon mattress - it's probably not going to be comfortable if you're not used to it!
The host is a lovely person :) The room was clean, and the breakfast really good (I liked the variety of it - each day sth different!). Location is also very good, just 3 minute walk to the beautiful Kabira Bay.

Hong KongCons: Room is a bit small, with very little furniture to store and put stuff Not so many amenities in the room (water bottles, pyjama) Maybe a bit overpriced even though the island is not cheap overall
Pros: Excellent location, close to Kabira Bay, restaurants, village animations Clean & comfortable beds Breakfast option (served at 7am or 8am) and dinner option (from 6pm onwards) Parking Very friendly staff

AustriaIt is a wonderful house with a warm and friendly flair, perfectly located close to the beach and restaurants and even a bus stop. The host was extremely nice, caring and helpful. She even adapted the breakfast (which changed every day!) for my vegetarian wife. Highly recommend.

JapanIt’s not the fault of the property, but it’s located very close to an emergency warning system which loudly played a repetitive and ancient sounding tune that locals practice various traditional arts to. Kids drum, adults swing swords and there’s a lion dance as well. If you’re into seeing and hearing the local culture it might be worth checking out, but it got a little overwhelming after 2 hours nonstop the 3 nights I was there.
The staff, the food, the convenience to my destination and the star gazing roof deck. I would stay there again.

GreeceAlthough floor was clean, there were dust balls all around the room which I had to clean with the dust cloth that was in the room. Clean towels were provided daily.
Good location steps from Kabira bay and bus stop. Easiness of check in/out process. Staff were really helpful, organized taxi for me the night before. I enjoyed my stay in Joya!

BelgiumA really sweet little hotel run by a hard-working and charming couple. Central Kabira a stone’s throw away from the bus stop and the glass boat. We were recommended Mantaholic to go snorkelling and they were great too. Being able to dry our washing outside was a great plus.

CanadaWe had a fantastic time staying at Joya. Excellent location up by Kabira beach, easy to walk to Kabira bay as well as to several restaurants in the area. We rented a car due to the infrequent bus schedule, easy parking at Joya. Breakfast was different each day and all delicious! We particularly enjoyed the home-made purple sweet potato jam! We also liked the ability to do laundry, the availability of snorkel gear for rent, and the ability to buy some snacks/water/umbrella on site.

SingaporeThe main attraction close to Joya is Kabira Bay. Apart frm that, it’s pretty far frm the other attractions. At night, it gets so dark in the area that you can get a clear view of the Milky way and catch the meteor showers! The hotel is super clean and I had alot of fun making the futon. The owner’s exceptionally helpful and helped me get familiar quickly:)

FranceNothing: this place is great! To be noted than Kabira village is a very simple and quiet place: there are just a few restaurants, it is difficult to move without a car and there is not a lot to do... But if you are looking for a relaxing, natural and beautiful seaside resort, with the feeling of traditional Japan this is just the place to be ;)
The staff is amazing and very helpful: they helped us in booking local restaurants and taxi, provided information about best beaches and bus timetable, offered help on bike rental and also have small grocery items like beers, chips, water and coffee. The guesthouse also offers a very useful laundry service :)
