We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaI don't have anything to add here. We could't have been more pleased with our stay and the lovely family that cared for us.
The breakfast was sensational - a true Japanese style which was fresh and prepared with such care and high standard. The rooms were of a very clean and comfortable standard - bedding also being very comfortable and cosy. Amenities had everything you could need. It was such a special, relaxing and homely stay. My teen daughters said it was the favourite part of their entire trip! They/we felt so welcome and at home. The home is so well preserved with modern conveniences you'd get at any top hotel, except this experience is far richer and more special. The location was simply unbeatable - literally in the Geisha district in the centre of Gion. But also super close to the river to cross over and experiences the vibe of bustling Kyoto city.

GermanyI was sad to leave and I will miss them all. They were the best hosts I have ever met. I don't have anything to complain about.
The hospitality of the family was just outstanding. It was the best we ever had. The family is so polite and kind hearted. The father helped us and showed us around and even drove us to a place for sightseeing. His son for example helped me to surprise my brother with a cake for his birthday. The mother of him was super cute as well and very polite and they helped us with everything we needed to make our stay the best possible. I never experienced such great hospitality at another place. I definitely recommend Jeugiya. The accommodation is just so beautiful and well maintained. I was very happy to stay there. Everything was just perfect! 💕

United StatesDelicious traditional Japanese breakfast. Beautiful historic house in Kyoto antiques district. Right next to one of the lovely canals. The house opens onto a beautiful garden. Traditional Japanese tatami and furniture. Not an anonymous hotel/ apartment rental experience. The family that owns the guesthouse are very kind, helpful and on hand for help and recommendations. Beautiful wood ofuro bathtub and bathroom with views of the garden. Good AC for warm days. Truly an immersive experiences into a traditional Japanese house.

United StatesThere was nothing we didn't like. Our stay was perfect!
Jeugiya Inn is family owned and is operated Sei (father), Masumi (mother) and Bun (son). The area the where guests stay was built by Sei's father and was originally part of the family home. The accommodations are traditional, very clean, comfortable and visually pretty and tranquil. Viewing the garden area is so relaxing and so is taking a bath in their large wooden tub that looks out onto the garden. Each family member is beyond helpful and extremely hospitable! Sei gave us a personal tour around the area that lasted almost an hour. Masumi and Bun helped us coordinate a dinner reservation at Kagetsu, a traditional restaurant in Nagasaki who only accepts reservations by hotel concierges and in Japanese. Sei also drove us and our luggage to the train station and pointed out the elevator entrance that would be impossible to find if you weren't a local. Masumi prepared exquisite, traditional Japanese breakfasts that tasted great and had beautiful presentation. The location was in a quiet area but you could walk to numerous temples, shrines, restaurants and shopping areas. So convenient! I cannot recommend Jeugiya enough! Every aspect was a 10 out of 10! Things to be aware of... You are not given a key to your accommodations but the family is always around and you can communicate with them when you're coming and going. They always greeted us when we departed and returned. You need to remove your shoes in the front of the home and wear slippers in the rest of the home but you need to take the slippers off on the tatami mats. There are also different toilet area slippers. I'm sure most Japanese people are used to this but it took a bit of extra effort for my husband and myself, to remember this. The family lays out the traditional bedding in the evening and removes it during the day. Also, if you're over 5 ft 8 inches there's a good chance you'll hit your head on the doorways.

AustraliaWe could not have asked for better hosts or better accommodation. Such a gorgeous, traditional house with a family who made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to make our stay the most memorable experience. Thank you for going out of your way to help us with restaurants, shopping, transportation etc. Could not speak more highly of Jeugiya and its wonderful owners.

CanadaJeugiya is simply spectacular - the clear highlight of our trip. A stunning traditional house with beautiful gardens and decor, you feel transported back in time. The true highlight and strength of Jeugiya is its hosts - Sai-san, Misumi-san, and Bun-san are wonderful kind, warm, informative, and supportive hosts. They repeatedly went out of their way to help us around Kyoto and their attentiveness was legendary (plus the breakfast they prepared for us was absolutely delicious and beautiful too!).

We would highly recommend staying at Jeugiya Inn. The family hosts are incredibly accommodating, provide a high level of service while also respecting your privacy. Masumi's breakfast was delicious. Bunichi provided us with guidance on sightseeing and maps. Seiichiro generously drove us to destinations and chatted about the history of the family and inn. (I hope I spelt your names correctly). All this while experiencing a traditional Kyoto inn. The level of comfort is 5 star but the service is beyond. We were recommended it by friends and we will be doing the same. Believe the reviews.

AustraliaThe family who run the accommodation are absolutely delightful. So generous, kind and accommodating. We were taken on a short tour of Kyoto on arrival, which helped us get oriented. We were shown how to get the train and which cultural sights to see. The accommodation was superb, comfy beds and beautiful ambience. Breakfast was very generous, traditional and delicious. Our hosts took photos of us as a group on arrival and in the garden when we left. Very kind and thoughtful throughout.

United StatesNothing! Everything was great!
Well, what can I say, it was a fantastic experience. We booked two nights in this house, and I definitely recommend it if you can afford it. The Muta family are really welcoming, warm, attentive people who do great job in keeping their historic family house well attended, stylish and cozy, and making their guests feel really special. Do ask them about history of the house and its name, it’s a great story! Breakfasts were very delicious, and fueled us up for a good part of a day. The garden is sublime, and the felt luxurious. To those doubting staying in traditional Japanese house during cold months I can say that it was totally fine, we were warm and comfy.

AustraliaI don't often write reviews, but I will happily make an exception for Jeguiya. I can not fault this accommodation and I can not speak more highly of the divine hosts - a loving extended family who not only ensured our time in this city was supremely comfortable - with beautifully spacious and impeccable authentic lodgings (dreamlike bedding, luxury amenities in the bathroom) - but also convenient thanks to a stellar location walking distance to many vibrant shopping and dining areas. Every question was answered with grace, intelligent conversations were enjoyed in bonus car trips to at least one main tourist attraction, assistance was speedily provided when local knowledge and contacts was unexpectedly required, and warm smiles were abundant. Thank you beautiful family for making our time in your fair city memorable.

As far as accommodation goes, Jeugiya Inn has it all - excellent location, a beautifully restored machiya with all the modern conveniences, comfort, space and impeccable cleanliness. What sets it apart from most is the genuine hospitality and warmth of the host family, Seiichiro, Masumi and Bunichi Muta. From the moment we arrived, we knew that we were in for something very special. We were served the best strawberry mochi, homemade by Masumi. We learnt about the history of the inn then given a map of the city with recommendations of the sights to see in Kyoto. Each morning, Masumi prepared a breakfast that was not just a meal but a work of art - easily some of the best food we enjoyed during our entire trip to Japan. Seiichiro’s kindness stood out as he helped plan our day each morning, drove us to our first destination, pointed out important sites and eateries along the way, and even dropped us off at the train station after we checked out. Kyoto, with its rich history and beauty, became our favourite city in Japan, and Jeugiya Inn was undoubtedly the highlight of our visit. While the city’s stunning sights left a lasting impression, it was the time spent at Jeugiya Inn that we will remember most. The Muta family’s hospitality raised the bar for accommodations everywhere. Every place we stay from now on will be compared to the wonderful experience at Jeugiya Inn. After four days and three nights, we were genuinely sad to leave Jeugiya Inn, but we hope of one day reuniting with the wonderful Muta family. Their warmth and hospitality will forever be remembered.
