Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe only negative thing I can think of, is that the bunk bed mattress was a little on the harder side. But to be fair, most of the beds I slept on in Japan were on the harder side. And I was still able to get a decent sleep during my 3 nights here, so it was all good, just took a bit of getting used to.
From the moment I arrived, the staff were so kind and welcoming and made this place feel like a second home. The common areas were warm and inviting, and I especially loved the peaceful garden area (with a hammock and outdoor couch for relaxing/reading) and the designated 'library' area with books, strong wifi, and cozy couches to chill out after a busy day of exploring. The hostel is easy walking distance into the town of Kabira (about 7min) and they had bikes available to use (free of charge) if you wanted to venture a little further out of town (i.e., to the beaches). I stayed here for 3 nights, in the dorm, and easily could have stayed another few nights. Thank you to each of the staff members and volunteers who made my time here so enjoyable, you guys are the best!

IsraelThere is never an option for a single room, The dormitory is crowded (lower bunk bed have no room even for sitting straight), shower facilities are poor and unkept.
Nice location, green surrounding, good kitchen and guest public space. It was good to have a rental car option, and a shuttle to the airport.

GermanyThis was by far the nicest hostel I’ve ever stayed at! The property is spacious and full of charm: there are hammocks, sun loungers, a cozy outdoor lounge, a barbecue area, a large well-kept lawn, and lots of plants – perfect for relaxing. The common area is welcoming and nicely furnished, including a modern, fully equipped kitchen. Cold tea is also available for free. The hostel also has a café that is open on certain days. Additionally, there are free bikes for guests and the option to rent snorkeling equipment. Laundry facilities are available as well. The location is great: just a 5-minute walk from the bus stop, about 10 minutes to Kabira Bay, and around 20 minutes to the nearest beach suitable for swimming. The rooms are clean and well-maintained – however, the walls are a bit thin, so you might hear other guests if they snore loudly or make noise. If you prefer more peace and privacy, it’s best to book one of the private rooms instead of a dormitory bed. Overall, it’s very quiet and ideal for unwinding. Check-in is easy and supported by an informative video in English. The host is very friendly and also speaks English. Occasionally, special events like communal barbecues are organized – a great opportunity to meet other travelers. The common area also offers board games and brochures with helpful information about the island and surroundings. I would definitely come back – highly recommended!

SwitzerlandAs it is a small town, there’s very limited grocery options and bus connections available. It’s part of the charm but sth to keep in mind when going there.
Beautiful location with big common area (and co-working space). Met some great people there to explore the island with. Really enjoyed the sunrise and sunset walks down to the nearby beaches. The town is tranquil with some nice restaurants and lovely people!

GermanyIn the shared bedroom there was shared light, meaning it was bright until the last person switched of the light. Bring your eye covers :)
Well located, friendly staff, spacious common area to hang out with fellow travellers. Handy car rental. Free bike rental, however the bikes are small like kids' bikes and a bit hard to use as an adult. I saw snorkel equipment rental too, would have used it if it wasn't raining while I was there. Washing machine worked perfectly. Thank you! I would love to stay there again.

The place is a little paradise. It had air conditioning and was very spacious and comfortable. They allowed us to use mini bikes to move around.

United KingdomThere were no towels in my room and it took me a while to work out where they were. Probably helpful to have a car to get from here around the island - but there were others there without cars who managed!
Friendly, hostel-type vibes but quiet, clean and spacious - at least in my private 2-double-bed room. You can hear the crickets at night which is quite soothing. A great beach guesthouse! Gon, the owner, greeted me personally, helped me to park my car and sat down with me to show me a map of the local area and give recommendations. He even made some suggestions for what to do on Iriomote Island when I went there after Ishigaki. Laundry facilities with drying space on site. A few restaurants and bars nearby - walkable.

KazakhstanBeautiful house with nice people. We were staying in dormitory that was half empty. The dorm space was quite clean with airconditioning, toilet and sink. Outside was cabin with shower. Also the bed was comfy. Nearby are different beaches and famous Kabira bay (note that snorling there is not allowed). Anyway the best snorkling can be done in Yonehara beach. For good price you can rent snorling mask and bike in Iriwa house. Good place to rest from crowds and noisy city. The place is bit far from main city and to reach it better to rent the car, because buses are not the best choise, but still affordable (it can cost around ¥1200 to reach Iriwa by buses, but you can buy 1 day pass for ¥1000 or 5 day pass for ¥2000 in bus staition close to the port, arriving from airport). Also buses have special schedule, they mainly operate during morning and few after lunch. Better to buy products in the main city if you plan to cook, because nearby shops are small and offer few products for higher price. However you will find restaurants or cafe places. Some of places needed reservation and be prepared that they are open only few hours per day or evening. In general i liked the place and can recommend it to the people who wants to disconnect from the rush of big cities.

GermanyIt is quite difficult to get breakfast around the area and if you don’t have a car you can’t really go grocery shopping so it would be nice if the guest house could also offer breakfast which atm they don’t. For towels it’s 100 yen per towel extra (unless you wash and dry it which costs 200 yen per washing machine). Also in the older building you can tell that it’s been around for some time so just expect it to look a bit more used up than on the pictures and some parts could use a renovation (like room Plumeria).
Cozy guest house close to Kabira bay which is a beautiful and more remote area compared to Ishigaki city. The staff arranged pick up from the airport for us and also organized a private room for the one night we originally could only get dorm beds. The location is very quiet and green, as we were hoping for. It is possible to rent bikes for free and you can also rent a car there. The bed was comfy and we had a really nice view. Everything was very clean! Also perfect spot to go out for diving in Ishigaki.

ItalyUnfortunately it’s complicated to communicate with the staff since they don’t understand english.
Nice stay, close to Kabira. The guesthouse is simple, but with a cozy touch. In the garden there are some hammocks and from the terrace you can see skies full of stars. Gon has been very helpful and gave us a lot of advices. It’s possible to rent a car (recommended to visit the island), bikes and snorkeling equipment.

I loved the location and how beautiful everything was, I will definitely be coming back in the future :) Even though I don't speak a lot of Japanese, everyone was very accommodating, patient, and kind.
