How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFor the price paid, the buffet breakfast was a disappointment.
The room was supposed to come with private Onsen. However the room only came with empty wooden tub and we have to constantly fill it up with tap water. This is not what a private onsen should be!

Verified reviewThe tatami room was lovely and the bed very comfortable for a futon type. There are a number of different style rooms. We especially booked a room with a private outdoor shower and bath. The food was superb in every respect. There were a number of beers available and, surely, there is a taste to appeal to everyone. The staff were caring and took time to understand the hotel guests. The communal bath was nice and the outdoor areas in general were pleasant. The test of a hotel is to positively answer the question, 'would you stay here again?' Our answer is that we returned after visiting here a year ago, except this time we doubled the length of our stay.

Verified reviewThe Breakfast is good enough as me and hubby both are vegetarian but the dinner are exceptional very well planned n delicious!! Defiantly will come back again!
The Entrance of the hotel especially if we drove up at night, as we missed it twice drove passed it. If can make it brighter or Logo or ENTRANCE sign to be more prominent. Because after we checked out and loading our luggage, we also had to show the new guests the entrance...

Verified reviewStylish, artsy, free drinks(all day), amenities, beautiful(and hot) onsen baths, great food.
Out of the way for a quick visit for mainstream visitors with a purpose of seeing many attractions. It was next to a roadway, and able to hear car traffic.

That they only open the all inclusive at thier time period The beer was 3-9 pm You had to book a time to eat and it was a set meal which a lot went to waste vs allowing a set meal with option to order at a small set menu

Verified reviewThank goodness for the staff who were all lovely.
This was a hugely disappointing experience. When we arrived we were shown to a very dated small western style room which did not reflect the photo of the room we had booked in any way, shape or form. The quality of the room was like a one star hostel. What is more, we had paid a lot of money for what we thought was going to be a treat. We went straight down and asked to move and were told the only option available was to pay more to move to a Japanese style room which we did. This room was better quality but did not have central heating, only an old fashioned blower heater which was brought in and so most of the time the room was freezing. Also the toom did not have an inside bathroom, only an outside private onsen and which given it was snowing outside, and the bath took ages to fill so was not exactly roasty toasty, was not ideal. We thought the outside private onsen was in addition to an inside bathroom so our mistake on that one. The all inclusive factor for food and drink was the only option we were given and not value for the money. The food was hugely disappointing, the beer did not match our tastebuds, and the overall atmosphere was not zen-like as had been expected.

Verified reviewAbsolutely everything! The staff were so nice. We were the only non-native people and the staff went out of their way to speak English if they could. The Cherry Beer was amazing. All you can drink beer, tea and coffee. Also lots of snacks available during the day. The private onsen was magical.
Our room was a little dated but the hotel itself was so lovely with lots of places to sit and relax, we didn’t use our room that much anyway

Verified reviewBeautiful hot springs, both private and ‘public’ for hotel guests only, excellent food and service, and many different locations and experiences to enjoy. We don’t usually book all-inclusives, but really, everything included here was so nice and the dinners in particular were very good quality. Highly recommended, especially if you’ll also enjoy the shogi-themed city of Tendo.
As a number of other reviewers have noted, the rooms themselves are comfortable but quite dated. A stark contrast the the rest of the hotel! The common areas and hot springs are so nice that you don’t need to spend much time in your room, but be aware before booking if this is something that will bother you.

Verified reviewSuperb! Well exceeded our expectations. The facilities were amazing. There are free private spas, unlimited drinks including alcohol, and free bar cocktails at night and also open fire to roast marshmallows. We had an amazing experience!
The rooms are a little dated compared to our impression of the photos but still quite comfortable.
