How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe owners are kind and helpful. The room was very spacious and comfortable. I had access to a washing machine and a dryer. The location is very convenient, just a 20-minute walk from the city center. The private parking is very useful if you have a rental car.

Verified reviewThe room is lovely, one of the biggest I’ve had with a separate loo and washer and dryer. Good fridge, aircon was good, it was set just right to be not too cold or too warm. Bed was pretty comfy and bed linen was nice. The owner was lovely and very friendly and there was complimentary soft drinks available. Altho it’s not near the port there is a bus stop Kanehide-mae just up the road and you can buy a 5 day pass for 2000yen.
The smell from the downstairs area. It smelt “swampy” - maybe from the fish tank? I wouldn’t eat down there because of the smell, fortunately my room didn’t smell although it permeated everything. There appeared to be people living there, they offered long term rental. So this made it feel more like a boarding house than a hotel. My room was reasonably clean but I found 3 long dark hairs in the room so more attention is needed.

Verified reviewThey allowed us early check in which was so nice of them! Very easy check in, they have free drink bar you can access 24 hours in the lobby, the room and bathroom separate toilet were very spacious and clean, has a good sized fridge, good AC, friendly staffs, good sized TV - I mean everything was amazing and exceeded our expectation! Definitely will visit them again in the future when we visit Ishigaki again!
It's 20mins walk to central or ferry station so that was a bit of walk when it's very hot outside or raining. But it's ok for people who have a car.

Verified reviewVery comfortable apt, clean and well equipped with washer and dryer. Quiet and good bed. Appreciate there are coffee, soda, and light breakfast provided. Also has fresh fish store nearby with fresh and reasonably priced sushi/sashimi serving locals.
Its 15-20 mins walk from the ferry and downtown market, 6 mins from bus station to/from airport. Its not inconvenient but just bear that in mind if no car or in a hot day.

Verified reviewI stayed for 12 nights at Sandriver Hotel and I loved everything about it! The room was so big, the bathroom had both a shower and a bathtub and the room had its own washer and dryer! This was a big plus given how often you need to wash clothes after activities and sightseeing in Ishigaki's humid heat. The staff was extremely kind and helpful at all times (they even taught me how to cut up pineapples!). There was also free coffee, a free soda machine and a light breakfast served every morning. There were also bicycles for rent, a parking area and daily fresh towels as well as kitchen utensils at guests' disposal. The hotel is very close to a convenience store and a supermarket and about a 15-20 minute walk from the ferry terminal and the downtown area. All and all, I couldn't have asked for more!
While I picked the hotel for its vicinity to the ferry terminal, that 15-20 minute walk can get to you in the midday heat.

Verified reviewThe ambience in the hotel is great. My room was like the one of a 4 star hotel, plus it had washing and dryer and a small kitchen. They give you washing liquid for free. Two beds and it was huge. I think it is not the norm, but I was lucky since it was their only available room. IThe lobby feel like a hostel, they have coffee and tea and bread for free and in the mornings they also have boiled eggs, also for free. They sell you beer at a reasonable price. The best thing is definitely the personal warm treatment. The owner is very amicable and Makoto, the lady that apparently takes care of everything there, is just adorable. I had a fantastic stay.
Everything was fine. Maybe a kitchen towel would be useful.
