How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis hostel has tons of character. Wandering the different hallways and just looking at the walls is very fun. The room is interesting- it's 2 people in a room with a small gap allowing you to see the other 2 people in the room next to you. The staff are kind, check-in was easy, the location is solid with a cool walk up a hill to arrive at the hostel. I did not try anything, but you get a small discount at their cafe.
No lockers except for a tiny safe box for valuables. You need your own lock.

Verified reviewSuper comfortable bed, lovely cafe area at the front, clean facilities and quirky decor! The staff are especially kind, and helped me when I wasn't feeling well!
It's a little distant from the centre of Kobe, but there are two metro stations nearby so you can still arrive there within 15 minutes. The showers are small, and the shower curtain kept blowing inwards!

Verified reviewWe were 2 people and even though they say its in a 4 bunk bedded dorm, it sort of was a room for us, with only a hole in the wall seperating it from the other room and making it a one full dorm. there was ample space inside the room and we lived there comfortably for 6 nights. very near to a metro station and there is a familymart just opposite.
sometimes even the staff is unaware of many facilities there as they are mostly volunteers. overall there is a cramped feeling to the common area.

Nothing.

Verified reviewAffordable, the room was perfectly clean and comfortable
The main desk is never really manned, the shared space is pretty messy and the location is in the red light district- not unsafe but definitely feels seedy.

Verified reviewThe staff was very friendly and helpful in navigating everything. Plus it was close to the station and near some good food options!
The room's were a bit awkward for solo travelers since it is just one single bunk bed in each room. so you're a bit intimate with your roommate. There is also a hole carved through the wall that connects with the other room. It is like a strange window low to the ground that you could easily walk through if you wanted to say hello to your neighbors. It's a good place for if you're with others especially if you know the people next door could be fun but I felt a little exposed as a solo female traveler.

Verified reviewAs we had booked the 2 larger rooms for myself & my family, we also had our own bathrooms, so only had to share toilets. The staff were very welcoming, and helpful, and as this was a hostel, there were good communal spaces we could all use, incouding the kitchen. This meant we could make snacks and breakfast etc, (which helps with keeping costs down) and lots of free tea & coffee! Excellent value for money compared to `budget` hotels which have no facilities.
Private toilets would be the only thing I could think of to improve the experience, but to be honest it wasnt a problem, and if you dont mind sharing some facilities its fine.

Verified reviewLocated in an accessible part of the city. The place was clean, but having dedicated staff to always keep an eye out on cleanliness would’ve been better. Hot water in the showers are a gamble; sometimes there’s hot water, sometimes not.

Verified reviewWe liked its unique interior and outdoor spaces. The space was clean and funky and it was a bit different from what you’d expect in Japan, which is fun.
The room itself was a decent size for a couple and had two comfortable chairs and a nice sized vanity table and mirror however the bed was hard and meant we had to layer blankets on top to soften it. The windows were thin and meant that we could hear the generator clearly from outside. There were also large marks and some holes in the walls.

Verified reviewJust wow. Hands down the most fun stay during our trip to Japan. BRILLIANT value for money, and super close to not one, but three stations. Tons of eateries nearby, my favourite were the stand-up udon shops! The rooms were tidy, and the bathrooms were clean, but what really sold the place was the common area- it felt really homely, and cheerful. It was such a good home base, to go out and about to explore- I'd love to come back to visit again sometime!
We did sleep in the same sheets for 5? days, which did get a little bit crumbly- no biggie though! My other suggestion to other travelers would be to bring earplugs/an eye mask because you're sleeping in a shared space :) (there was a dj/rave going on our first night of the stay, we learned the hard way)

Verified reviewExcellent layout, so much common space for hanging out. It felt like you were away from the city once you stepped inside. Loads of space in the double room I booked.

Verified reviewThe public space is spacious, stuff is welcome
the house is wood structure so you can hear everyone walking in the hallway. besides our room is near the toilet, the whole night we could hear other people went to toilet… and the doors are so old and they also cause big sounds. we reserved the room with a bathroom, but actually it is just a single bathroom without toilet…Maybe I got the wrong means because usually Japanese hotel always use bathroom to represent bathroom+toilet, so for some other customers in the future,if you reserve this, please remember you also need go to the toilet outside the room.
