There was no staff in the building which doesnt feel safe or comfortable. Everyone kept leaving the dormitory door unlocked and open which is not great safety wise! The building is old and with very thin walls so its easy to disturb others just by needing the toilet at night, I felt I was walking everyone up going up and down the staircase.

The location was fantastic, the beds were v private and very comfortable, we slept very well. The showers were unisex on the ground floor with separate cubicles to get dressed. There are a couple of washing machines that you can use for free, which is brilliant.

The capsule bunks were a bit warm but that's to be expected in the summer, just depends on whether or not you want to sleep with the curtain open/a jar. Also had used contact lenses and ear plugs in my capsule. But other than that it was alright.

Easy to find and great amenities for a one night stay. It was easy to do a late check in. The showers and bathroom were nice and clean.

the cleaning times were too early. starting to clean rooms and bathrooms at 9am while people are still sleeping or getting ready is too early. especially if staff gets trained inside the dormitory at 9am. the friedhelm could be bigger.

great location, clean, comfortable, enough privacy, good amenities

Definitely need a real fridge, the tiny mini bar doesn't do the job of keeping food fresh/cool and doesn't fit all guest's food. I get they did their best as this was an old house, but it's quite inconvenient when your bed is on the third floor and the toilet is available only on the 1st floor and there is only 2 toilets to serve all guests

Good location, remote check-in works well, cute old style house, safe place to leave luggage before/after check in

The check-in was with a video connection... that was so strange and not a particularly warm welcome. Honestly I found it absurd. The bathrooms were not quite clean and the light in the bedroom could not go off?

There were actual mattresses, not futons! The cabins also had plenty of privacy.

No kitchen to cook, just microwave and kettle. You need to go to a near by hostel if you want to cook. Very small fridge, no room to keep everyone's food. There is no bathroom upstairs, just on the main floor. Narrow stairs, so be careful if you have a lot of luggage.

Great location. Small hostel, just 2 rooms, one on each floor. Nice bathroom and showers with complimentary towels and soaps. Free washing machines and complimentary tea and coffee. They can keep your luggage if you arrive before check-in time. Good value for money.

The entrance was our only gripe as having to carry suitcases or large bags up a steep and narrow staircase is difficult, especially so for women

Rooms were large enough to be comfortable and the accom had well presented kitchen, bathroom and toilet area. Staff has information booklets on things to do and see as well as eatery recommendations. Very well located with everything close by (train station and bus depot is ~10-15 min walk)

I would only suggest installing handles around the upper bunks above the steps. Getting out of the top bunks would be easier and safer. A couple of times, I was getting out of bed and missed a step or lost my balance and I had nothing to grab onto.

Super convenient location for exploring Takayama. Only a short walk away from the JR Station, and from many of the local attractions like the morning market. Check-in was remote and super smooth. The lobby area had a small fridge, toasters, a microwave, and electric kettles. There is access to a larger kitchen in one of their other locations, but I didn't utilize it. Showers and bathrooms were very clean. There are informative maps stocked in the lobby in multiple languages as well as QR codes with restaurant recommendations, grocery stores, attractions, etc. Very comfy and affordable place to stay.

The staff walked through the room at night with a lot of noise? The heater in the dorm is very warm.

Nicely located, 15 min walk from the bus and train stations. You can make tea or coffee in the common room. There are also washing and drying machines available for free.

I wish there were lockers for bags. Although this wasn’t too much of a problem as everyone leaves everyone’s things alone. I also wasn’t a fan of curtains but only because the person in the capsule next to me kept opening mine, thinking it was theirs. Wasn’t fun at 1am.

The pods were really comfortable and all the washrooms were spotlessly clean. All of the kitchen facilities were great! And even better, the washing machines and driers are free to use! You just need washing detergent- which is available for 100Yen.

Sooooo many cameras, it's creepy. When going to use the kitchen in the other hostel (hostel chain's HQ) you can see all the camera footage on big screens in the dinning/ sitting area. Staff and other residents can watch CCTV from all hostels and sit there like it's big brother watching people. Felt like I was in the Truman Show. If you want to increase security, a simple lock on the front door is more effective. Also lacked a sofa/ relaxing space. Some staff/ volunteers were friendly but in general a bit cliquey, all eating dinner together in the dinning room so you feel out of place.

Free laundry, good kitchen and board games but you have to walk 5 mins to another hostel to use them. Clean, comfortable for sleeping, good AirCon, good curtains on bed. Great location.
