Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere are only three showers, two of which are very small so there isn't much space to get changed. Since the curtains aren't long enough, belongings need to be placed in the plastic box that is provided. There is a security box and chain provided for belongings, just large enough to fit a 15 inch laptop. Although free luggage storage was great (there is no elevator!), the cupboard on the ground floor where it's stored is not locked either, nor is there a tagging system and staff aren't around most of the day so it isn't the most secure. Thankfully the hostel was very quiet, so it didn't feel too risky.
The pillow and mattress was comfortable, and the room I was in was spacious - sometimes I was the only person in the 6 bed dorm (even though I booked an 11-bed mixed dorm). The hostel was pretty empty so it didn't feel crowded, (there were probably only 4-6 guests including myself at any given point throughout my 4 day stay) but I think it would be too small if it was at normal/full capacity. I only spoke to 1 other guest, it was that quiet. There is a separate toilet just for women on the 2F. The hostel has an adequate kitchen, free tea/coffee, social and private spaces. The hostel is well located, being 5 mins walk from a station and from a huge LIFE supermarket, and also some good cafés. It takes about 20 mins to walk to Harbourland and Chinatown, and 30 mins to Sannomiya and Shin Kobe. The staff were friendly, and the free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out was super helpful. The hostel door is also locked from 9pm onwards so it felt quite safe.

South KoreaThe hostel was old-fashioned with regard to its entire facilities. Some guests seemed to keep loud even after midnight at lobby.
As a whole, the facility was Okay for minimalistic travellers.

NetherlandsThere is a weird smell sometimes in the room (nothing too bad) and while its close to a train station it is not located in the main area of Kobe but you can easily talk one train station or walk along the port. In general these are very small details.
The hostal is clean and has everything you need for your stay. It has a nice common area to meet other travelers although during my stay there was not much atmosphere. The hostal is very close to the jr station, convenience stores, and a restaruant area.

United KingdomOne of the other members of staff spent a lot of time on personal phone calls in a mixture of English & French, rather than paying attention to guests.
The 3 staff on duty when I checked in (all European) were great. Very polite, friendly and welcoming - a great start to my break. The Wi-Fi worked well throughout the entire building, as did the air conditioning & the numerous electric fans. It was very useful to be able to leave my case in the storage area, free of charge, after I'd checked out. It gave me the chance to do more sightseeing, before moving on to Osaka.

VietnamNot too much to add here. I would have preferred if there was a more suitable stairway to the upper bunks. As a larger bottomed woman i struggled there slightly!
The hostel was located a short walk from the station which was very convenient. There are a couple of restaurants nearby and also a few convenience stores which came in handy. The hostel has a very chill vibe, there is a common area downstairs with a small set up where people can eat or sit and chat. There is also an inner room with a traditional Japanese setup where people can rest. The rooms are pretty basic with everything you need to sleep well. Good mattresses, blankets and pillows to add to the comfort. There is also a kitchen.

ArgentinaEven though is not bad, it was overpriced even for Japan compared to other places I stayed. The construction of capsule/lockers were cheap and not so good.
Kitchen is a plus, location also good, free coffee or tea was nice. It''s ok for a night or 2. The place is acceptable.

MalaysiaNot very clean for strict Japanese standards. And the kitchen smells most times. The fridge is not clean either.
It's a 7 minute walk from Kobe St. There's conveniences stores on the way and a big Aeon at the station. Staff are very nice and friendly. If you handwash your clothes, there's a drying area on the rooftop.

ChinaThe old building has a grungy feel to it and a melange of different odors. I unfortunately was stuck with a roommate who I could smell coming and going. Though the hostel was fairly social, the common space is a bit narrow and prone to just getting crowded so it encourages people to avoid it. It was a bit annoying to always have to go to another floor in order to use the restroom since the 2nd floor restrooms are women only.
Very good value for money, they have tons of booklets of information for Kobe and the surrounding areas (what to eat, where to go), which is essential and so many hostels completely neglect to do. I really appreciated having a kitchen to cook in and a small tatami room to hang out in.

United StatesFirst floor level to sit, read, and eat doesn't have any opening for fresh air circulation. There is no window to open in the mornings..etc. Unfortunately, what what worse than this was lack of cleaning knowledge of the foreign staff from Ireland. I saw her "trying" clean the refrigerator (which is quite small) using a bleach cleaner with the food items already inside the fridge. I couldn't believe my eyes, she was spraying the bleach product without removing the food items. This is reckless and risky for human health. It seems she also didn't rinse/wipe after spraying bleach, the trousers I bought only few days ago got ruined as I was washing hands by the sink area. Cleaning at the busier times of evening is not a good idea either.
It is a historic building, so it is quite cool to stay at a traditional Japanese building. I liked they have a rooftop area where you can get fresh air.
