Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe closest outlet to the bed was on the other side of the bed, a foot or so from the head. This made it inconvenient to charge my phone, which I also use as an alarm and to play white noise. I would expect an outlet by the head of the bed in any modern hotel. I've never been to a hotel with the outlet so far away. In addition, it was only one outlet, so to charge my other device I needed to use the desk charger. The other main complaint I have is the bathroom. The toilet always sprays a little bit of cold water on you when you sit down on it which is minor but kind of annoying. There is not much counter space. But most importantly, I did not see a way to adjust the angle of the shower head, so it was pretty hard to wash my hair with how it was angled... My room had very little space to hang clothes, I feel like they could have fit in more than two hangers. The microwave in the lobby also seemed pretty weak, so I used it on a higher power and for longer than what my convenience store meals instructed. Lastly, the room keys are laughably huge... I don't want to carry that around all day... You can ask the staff to hold on to your key for you though, if you want. But not the best to need to do that all the time if you're in a rush or always going in and out.
I liked the location. It is close to lots of places where local events are held, and Dotemachi itself is a nice place with lots of great food options. The staff was also very nice and helpful, showing me with pictures where things nearby are and bringing my luggage to my room for me ahead of time when I had somewhere to be The hotel interior was quite pretty and elegant, with the main desk being on the third floor and rooms starting from the floor above. The building also had lots of restaurants built-in so you don't even need to leave the hotel (useful especially when there is a snowstorm, as there so often is in Aomori) There is a bus stop right across from the hotel which is quite convenient and 2 convenience stores within 5 min (depending on the weather) The room size is slightly bigger than average although the furniture being bulky takes away from that

AustraliaA little far from the train station to walk with luggage so we used a taxi. However there is a 100 yen ring bus which accesses many of the sites and goes right past the hotel. While the hotel was reasonably old the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Value for the price.

FranceOverpriced, probably because of the affluence due to the festival. Small bed for two, small room for the price.
It was the only available hotel because of the local festivals when we were there.

United StatesSeveral things in the room showed signs of wear (the desk had clearly seen better days). The bed was notably short and could have been longer as there is space. The bed and pillow ere also the hardest I had encountered during my 2 weeks traveling Japan. It featured the smallest bathroom of any hotel I stayed in during my trip (in all 3 dimensions). I couldn't stand up straight even outside the shower, while in the shower my shoulders touch wall and curtain at same time, and the shower itself can't fit the shampoo and body wash bottles. While the breakfast selection was ok, there was an insect of decent size crawling in the food (which one of the staff was kind enough to remove from my plate),
There is a decidedly classy feeling to several of the hotel elements such as the manual room key style of desk. My hotel room was decently long for a hotel in Japan and had a nice view from the 11th floor. The breakfast area is on the 13th floor and features a great view of the city and surrounding mountains.

AustraliaThe ensuite is a step higher than the living room. Need to exercise care. Lamps not bright enough. Other receptionists do not seem to understand spoken English. Sometimes take a long time to wait for taxi passing by. Better ask Reception to call taxi as our sim card is data only. Sim card with Jap phone no. is available to long-stay travellers.
Conveniently located near the 100-Yen shuttle bus to Hirosaki Garden. Short walk to shops, some restaurants and Chuo Hirosaki station with hourly departure train. Spacious twin-bed room. Late check-out at 11 am Appearance looks grand in its class. Good city view from window. The Reception Manager was caring for customers and responded to their needs. He knows a bit of English and can use google translate.

AustraliaFor the price we paid, the stay was very disappointing. The room interior is very dated and bed was uncomfortable. Surprisingly breakfast wasn't included so we decided to try it for one of the mornings and although it was a good spread, the vegetarian options were very limited and not worth the money we had to pay.
We had a higher floor room so the view to Mount Iwaki was good. Room was a little bigger than hotels we stayed in Tokyo.

There was a bus stop nearby, but the bus stops running around 5 PM. you’ll have to take a taxi a or walk from the station.
