Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceDidn’t like that I had to rent a towel, and I was a bit surprised that the rooms were co-ed. It’s probably my fault for not realizing that the rooms were co-ed, but it would have been nice if that was made more clear. I didn’t have any issues though, so it worked out.
Host was super nice and friendly. The hostel was really cute, and it felt like I was staying in someone’s home rather than a hotel. It was also way quieter than the capsule hotels I’ve been to, which made for a much better night’s rest.

CanadaIt was a bit inconvenient to have limits on shower times if you wanted to stay out late, with the shower's being unpermitted past 12 am. The rooms would get a bit hot at night time, but we did have fans to stay cool.
The stay has an amazing location, with about a 5 minute walk to Himeji castle. It was also nestled inside a market street that had lots to explore. The showers were cleaned everyday and washrooms were spotless. The beds were very comfortable, and the lobby was a nice chill space! Owners were very nice.

New ZealandLight disturbed us in the private room, curtains on the small window would have been good.
Great little guesthouse run by a lovely woman. We thought we were all going to be in the private room but it was only for two so my husband slept in the dorm which was comfy enough. Excellent location and perfect when you are passing through like we did.

United KingdomNothing that wouldn’t be experienced in any hostel, people can be loud etc, someone decided to start playing the guitar at 1am, nothing to do with the host or the property just regular hostel things.
Loved this property, the owner was very friendly. The social space is really comfortable and a nice touch.

AustraliaCan only comment on the fact the bathroom facilities were down steep stairs but not a show stopper if you can manage steps.
Room was fine - good size for 2 even when mattresses were laid out. Bathroom facilities were downstairs but no issue. Location was very good - right in a covered mall and close to all places we wanted to see. Handy to a range of interesting food places. It allowed us to tick off 'guest house' from our Japanese accommodation bucket list. We recommend this facility.

GermanyThe equipment is rather classic like a hostel. The price was ok for Japan, but don’t expect south-asian hostel prices.
We had a good time at this guest house, which has a great location, close to the train station and the castle, as well as friendly personal. They led us leave the luggage there for some time after check out for seeing the castle, which was nice, too.

United KingdomNice place. Has fridge, showers, toilets. Always a little difficult in a dorm setup because you'll be disturbed by other residents, but it's otherwise great. The private shared room was used by my two female friends, travelling with me, no issues from them. Noise travels easily up the stairs from other residents not keeping to curfew, but not necessarily the fault of the property managers.

United StatesI came at a cold time, so providing slippers would be nice, since it can get quiet cold there. The women working there were very mindful about the cold and made sure to turn on the heat and get us extra blankets!
Two of the Japanese women that greeted me were so kind and made you feel at home :) They gave great recommendations of food. I recommend adding a place called Curry & Coffee to the list, since it is great for vegetarians (and non-vegetarians). It would be good for vegans too!

AustraliaWhile there are many great things about the place, such as the location, the warm and charming layout and the price, I think the thing that I enjoyed the most was having Kyoko-san as our host. She is so welcoming and you feel really taken care of by her. Will definitely stay here again the next time I’m in Himeji.

United KingdomNothing was wrong with the place!
The location is excellent, nearby the station, castle, and all the restaurants. This is a really cozy hostel with an excellent socialising space centred around a kotatsu (wonderful in winter!). Kyoko, who runs the establishment, is kind, cheerful, and eager to help. I had a wonderful time at this hostel!

JapanThe room had a sort of musty smell to it. It was raining the day I checked in so it might have been due to the damp. There was also a fan in the bunk which doesn't function, but I didn't mind that much. Overall, a bit of maintenance might help the rooms/bunks.
The staff were very helpful and the overall atmosphere was nice.
