We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

GreeceI had difficulty to find the entrance and the street that goes towards hotel is uphill so it was really hard to reach it with my suitcase.
Amazing Japanese room, spacious with beautiful view! The room was clean. The staff was very friendly and the public onsen were really nice! I highly recommend it!

United KingdomEverything, the room was big and comfortable, we got given yukatas to walk around, go to the restaurant and to the baths, it was very comfortable. Everything was clean. The food was excellent. The baths were great, lovely and clean. There's two baths, separated by male/female, and they change from morning to night so you can try both. The staff was ok with us using the baths despite of having tattoos. There's a private onsen too in case you want to share with your friends/family. There's a terrace outside with views to the city. The location is slightly up the hill but they provide with a shuttle bus to and from the train station.

CanadaIt is a bit up a hill to get to the property from town, but the location is actually very good and the town is very walkable. There is also a hotel shuttle to and from the bus/train station.
Very nice, traditional experience. The view from our room was really nice, the staff (especially the restaurant ladies) were great, the onset was wonderful and the food was very yummy (breakfast was included with our room and was really good, and dinner was around ¥8,500 per person if I’m remembering correctly and was really worth it, a great experience). The town is great, definitely go to Takayama.

AustraliaGorgeous, gorgeous stay! Beautiful place tucked away on the hill with the most INCREDIBLE views, but easy walking distance to everything. The onsen was GORGEOUS, one of the better ryokans, and you can also hire a private bath if you want to share the experience with partner. Very comfortable and warm rooms, great breakfast. Shuttle to bus/train station. Will return!!

BrazilNothing, everything was perfect.
The room was extremely comfortable and spacious. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was clean and the whole experience of staying at a Ryokan was fantastic. The staff was friendly and spoke excellent English. The food was great too! We booked a room with half-board and it was a very interesting experience to eat a traditional Japanese breakfast (on our second day they provided more western options as the difference in culinary was difficult to us, but I was glad I got to have the experience.) The dinner was superb, I am pretty the best food I ate in Japan. We booked the private onsen which was very interesting, clean and beautiful. We didn't try the public onsen as we were uncertain of how to behave in one, so it was great to use the private one. It was only 1000 yen per couple and the staff explained how to use the space really well. It was an excellent stay, I really felt that I managed to experience a more traditional side of Japana. Also, the hotel was only a short walk from the touristic spots. It was at the end of a hill, but not difficult at all to reach. And the hotel provides a pick up service from the train station.

SingaporeHad to climb the slope, the building a bit old (lack of maintenance).
Far from crowds, private onsen is nice, staffs are friendly, food was generous serving. One of the staff offered me scoop to clear the snow on my car. Amazing view from the room where I get to see fireworks.

GreeceNothing!
The hotel was in an amazing location, near the beautiful Shiroyama Park, where Autumn foliage was amazing! The hotel was very cute and traditional (although a bit dated). We booked a private onsen and it was great for relaxing in a cold night! Also it was a five-ten minute walk from the main old streets which was very convenient and a ten minute drive from the station! All in all was a great stay!

SpainThey could renovate it a bit, as well as get a thicker mattress, currently is very thin so it is not very comfortable.
Very authentic, and cosy stay. Real experience of Japanese Ryokan. They have a beautiful public bath with an external bath. Very quiet in the morning. The dinner was very filling and good, fresh ingredients, same as the breakfast. Great helpful staff.

AustraliaIt wouldn't be fair to complain about stairs or futons, when they were the reason for going! If you are looking for an authentic experience, when you don't have much Japanese language and you are reasonably flexible, this is a perfect place.
We came here for the ryokan experience. We were not disappointed. For people in our 60s, the steps and stairs were the only major challenge, not to mention getting up and down off a futon on the floor! But this is part of the reason for going. The evening meal was extremely beautifully presented and also delicious. Breakfast was in the same vein. We paid 1,000 yen extra to use the private onsen, and it was worth it. We were helpfully supplied with an English set of instructions on correct etiquette for the bath. To arrange a pickup from the station uphill to the ryokan, the staff at the tourist center at the station were very helpful. It was easy to book the shuttle back down to downtown after our stay.

We were able to book the private onsen at sunset and it was a great experience. I enjoyed tasting the Japanese breakfast, it was delicious and plentiful.

AustriaThe hotel has aged quite a bit. It could definitely use a fresh coat of paint all over, but everything else about this hotel is great!
The hotel is on a little hill with a lovely view over Takayama! The staff is very kind and helpful and the rooms are exceptionally clean! The public bath is lovely! We reserved the private bath for 1000 yen. It is outdoors and we enjoyed it a lot! The best part of our stay was the food! We booked breakfast and dinner for 2 nights and every meal was exceptional! The staff very kindly explains every unknown dish to you and it was a great experience!

FinlandBeing a traditional Japanese hotel the soundproofing is not amazing. On two mornings some noisy birds outdoors woke me up quite early.
A charming and dated ryokan yet affordable with an onsen. My room had a comfortable "balcony" with two chairs and a table, making the most comfortable traditional Japanese room I've stayed. The view over Takayama was great. The staff spoke sufficient English and the wifi worked fine. They serve good Japanese breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30. The Japanese dinner they offer is excellent, though somewhat expensive at 6050 yen. Private onsen for 40 minutes costs 1000 yen. Would definitely come again.
