This property was beautiful, spacious, and very private. It had plenty of room for me and my family. The sauna, onsen, and private pool were a highlight of our trip.

This property is about 20 minutes outside of Shimoda. We forgot to bring our international drivers license (it’s sitting on our car at home), for us to get to the grocery store and back was about 10,000 yen or $70. This also meant we were limited for activities and only went to one beach. This is entirely our fault and the property manager was incredibly helpful with ordering taxis and forwarding luggage.

Exceptional setting surrounded by forest. Simple and high quality design with attention to detail everywhere across the house: materials, lights, blinds, equipment both indoor and outdoor. Very comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, quality toiletries, fantastic sauna, onsen, pool, phone chargers in every room etc. Relaxing place with Japanese flair. Fridge was prepared with soft drinks and beer.

Thank you for your stay and the highly positive review.

The location is incredible with a small creek behind the property and then a large forest that is elegantly lit up at night. It's up a long narrow road so the only sound most of the time is the water running down the creek so it's extremely peaceful. We rented the private villa and EVERY little detail has been covered - including extra chargers, a fancy bluetooth speaker, high quality coffee, and even some water and health drinks which were great after a long drive. The kitchen also has a large number of basic condiments left over from previous travelers so if you choose to eat-in you probably don't need to purchase basics like oil. The onsen pool is amazingly warm too and very clean - simply luxurious! Overall the room IS every bit as great as the pictures - perhaps even better! They even have special sauna robes and hats, which I've never seen anywhere before. I think it speaks volumes that we chose to spend most of our second day here instead of exploring the surrounding area. The villa is just too great to leave sitting empty and the pool here was better than even the immaculate beaches nearby - which I must say might be the nicest proper sandy beaches I've seen in Japan.

Use of the private pool is an extra charge of 10,000yen - which wasn't anywhere in the description of the room at the time of our booking or confirmation email. We only learned of it after checking our email after checking in to find an email from the day before our arrival asking if we'd like it prepared for the fee of 10,000yen. When we didn't reply they went ahead and prepared it, which is I believe only natural because anyone staying in a "villa with a private pool" would assume that pool is included and want to use it so the additional fee is simply very strange and hard to understand. Thankfully the room was more than spectacular enough to make up for this unpleasant surprise. The indoor bath could use some more privacy. Glass walls on two sides means anyone sitting in the living room can see anyone in the bath unless the living room blinds are closed. However, we also suspect it might be visible from the window of the large sauna next door so we turned off the lights when bathing at night - which is a little awkward. NOT a problem for us, but anyone staying here should be aware there's nowhere to eat or buy groceries nearby so a car or some strong legs and a bike are a must. The hotel information included numbers for taxis, but in our 3 days in the area we never saw one and it'd probably be fairly expensive considering the distance to the main area of Shimoda. Note we saw somewhere they started a self breakfast service.

The location was perfect for getting away from the busy streets of Tokyo, though I highly recommend renting a (small!) car to get here, as it is tucked away from public trsnsportation routes. Our room was clean, surprisingly well equipped and comfortable. Service was spot on, communication with our host was easy and quick. We never saw any of the staff though, which made the quality of service just that much more impressive. We were the only guests staying here at the time, so we had all facilities to ourselves (an introvert's dream). There were plenty of instructions in english for all the general how-tos, check-in and check-out was easy using the machine. Prepare to face some bugs around the area, we had a few interesting encounters with moths by the entrance. The room itself was equipped with bugspray and deterrents, though we didn't need them as our room was perfectly wildlife free. The bug screen in the private onsen kept the bugs at bay, allowing us to bathe and sleep while enjoying the sounds and smells of the surrounding nature!

This wasn't an issue for us nor was it anything to do with the place itself, but the road leading to the place was very narrow in places. Our rental kei-van had no issue reaching the place, but anyone planning on driving anything bigger might want to take it slowly and carefully.

We will be back! WOW. This was a shot in the dark booking since I couldn’t find a place near the beach that was tattoo friendly. We were blown away at the facility, amenities and overall beauty of the location. I booked 3 rooms. Everyone had their own private onsen bath. My husband and I upgraded to the sauna barrel room and we LOVED IT. The guys all did sauna in the morning. They even give you handmade authentic sauna hats. Breakfast was simple but filling. Half of the group did the Japanese style, half did American. My jumbo toast made me feel like I was in a Ghibli movie having breakfast. There is a vending machine in the breakfast area was a variety of snacks and drinks. Our van made it on the roads to the property. So a standard vehicle will have no issue. Beautiful creak flowing in the backyard of every room. Every room has an entrance, toilet & sink room, living room (doubles as bedroom bc you have tatami beds), vanity sink & rack, THEN sliding door to your shower & bath, THEN sliding door to your porch with seating. Our room had the barrel immediately to the left of the porch with ANOTHER outdoor tub. Price was excellent!!

We loved everything!! HOWEVER, it should be noted you will need a vehicle to get here. Property is nestled in a neighborhood, outside the main Shimoda town. Not sure how public transport could possibly get you to it but we didn’t need to deal with it bc we rented an 8 passenger van.

Beautiful accomodation. Nice, clean and comfortable. We loved the wooden smell and enjoyed the private bath. The breakfast was delicious. Easy to get to with a car. Self check in and check out process was smooth to do especially as we arrived late. Should have stayed another night or made sure to arrive early to properly enjoy the accomodation.

A very unique experience. Private onsen and the property itself has full of character.

The shower was very noisy! They need to repair the shower valve I guess. The squeaking noise of the shower makes it very uncomfortable and awkward to the neighbors. There is no near restaurant or convenient store and the property does not serve dinner either.

Beautiful, new build residence. Very low fuss and with stripped back breakfast. But we had complete privacy and a very tranquil setting and enough creature comforts to enjoy a film in the evening. Only a short drive from three towns and the seven waterfalls as well. The bath room/private onsen is wonderful.

Not much. It is hard to access without a car. But if you are this far into Izu peninsular, you will absolutely need a car! Food is best found in local towns.

Very new facility, the furnish is apparent to be of high quality. It has an onsen bath tub in the room you can enjoy as much as you wished. Comfy tatami mattress and well equipped with amenities. A tranquil place with forest and river views.

Arrived at the apartments at night, the road there was pitch black and windy. There was no one there except for a self-check in machine. There was a technical problem with the machine and spent ages trying to check in following the instructions, with no success, finally noticing a message on the Booking app from the owner to say the machine was broken….was given a passcode to directly enter but had no idea which room so just picked a random one. Was all too techy and troublesome….it didn’t help that there was NO ONE STAFF there to help….gives creepy vibes…. The room was small, can just fit two tatami beds so note if you bring large suitcases like us. The booking details mentioned there is a sauna, but we did not see any. The cleanliness of the bath tub can be improved.

    Property response:

Thank you for staying with us. We apologize for the issue with the check-in machine. This room does not have a sauna. thank you
