Staying in this lovely old treasure of a house was one of the highlights of our trip. The hostess is lovely and welcoming. The beds and bath were comfortable. You have use of the kitchen and common rooms, so the stay is very convenient.

We visited the place in early Feb, when the snow was really thick. We arrived at 8pm, access to the area can be confusing if you arrive at night when the snow is thick (everywhere looks the same). Shouldn't be a problem if you arrive during daytime.

The owner Koji-san really knows the area. He gave good introduction of the guesthouse and the area, he suggested some places that we can visit.

The place was great! The architecture beautiful and the furnishings astonishing, they do have an issue with bugs, which is fine, but I didn’t expect it to be as bad. I suspect it might be hard to fix but they could insolate the home so there are not quite as many, it was a bit uncomfortable to have bugs swarming around me when I was in the bedroom area. Aside from that the place is beautiful. I still reccomend it

The mattresses on the bunkbed are not really soft. The sleeping experience is close to sleeping on a Tatami. I enjoy it softer, but that's just me.

This guesthouse has hostel vibes (which I consider to be a good thing), yet our room was elegant, the outside terrace/balkony inviting, and the bathroom splendid and very new. The common area was clean and inviting, and the use of the kitchen area great. Even if you do not care about the "common parts", it is still a great room for a reasonable price.

You have your own space in the dormitory with tatami mats and it’s very close to a tattoo-friendly onsen, bus station and to a lake. The owner and the staff was friendly! There are not many people in the guesthouse, so it’s a really nice place to calm down.

The atmosphere of the accommodation is very good, especially when spring arrives. Surrounded by beautiful nature in the old style. But it is modern and comfortable. There are musical instruments to play. The home owner and his team are very hospitable. Suitable for staying alone or in groups.

No complaints at all, just be sure to plan your adventures around the timetable of the shuttle bus, with the bus stop less than 100m from the front door.

Incredible location and a beautiful building, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very well appointed kitchen, which is helpful as the guesthouse is somewhat far from restaurants, it was a pleasure to do some cooking and enjoy the guesthouse as a home.

The beds were somewhat uncomfortable, although if you're on the tatami mat it shouldn't be a problem. Additionally, there are many stinkbugs due to the nature of the building's architecture however it wasn't that noticeable. Finally while I didn't have any issues myself, if you hope to stay in the higher parts of the building, accessibility may be an issue as the stairs/ladder are quite steep.

Very friendly and helpful staff! It was amazing to stay in a traditional Japanese thatched house (over 300 years old). The accommodation was warm and had a very cosy lounge area (with guitars and other instruments to play) and lots of cooking space. The location was also quite spectacular with views of the city at night and located next to a lake, park, and sports facilities. There is also a bus stop directly outside of the property. Definitely a must if you're planning to stay in Nanto.

Due to the warm summer, there were a lot of buds sneaking into the bulding. It was annoying to see and smell them near the room I slept.

We liked how the traditional building was remodel nicely and have artsy modern gest house vibe. We also enjoyed getting time to see Johana town as it has a cool history.
