Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkMaking my own bed, the price was a bit steep for the amenities provided.
Central in atami, the cubbies you sleep in are spacious (I could stand up inside) and are provided with a fan. Aircon is pretty good though. They provide guidance & discounts on local onsen, which is what atami is all about. You can grill a fish you bought in the morning, which is a fun experience. Provides luggage storage; Spacious lockers could easily fit my 70L backpack.

United StatesThe only thing I didn’t like about the property is that you have to hunch down to get into the lower capsule and it can give you a back ache but if there was a yoga stretch area that would be awesome. They could make a yoga stretch area in the unused area behind the lounge. They also might want to make a kakigori stand as it is super hot in Atami. This would draw in passerby customers.
I like the friendliness of the staff. They were proactive and reached out to me and were super friendly and helpful versus rigid like at other accommodations.

FranceRoom is a bit tiny. Not that much space to leave luggages like backpacks or suitcases, except in front of the room or in a locker a bit further in the guest house.
Nice location, located right next to the bleach, access to many equipments including washing machines and kitchen for free, and easy in-out access.

New ZealandMy pod was quite small and the mattress took up the whole space, which made it tricky to have anything next to the bed.
Clean and comfy hostel. Close to central Atami with plenty of great shops and restaurants around. Very quiet at night especially for a dorm.

AustraliaThe location itself is near a lot of shops and restaurants but it’s not that close to Atami train station. Given Atami’s windy streets with many slopes and stairs, it’s not as convenient for travelers with heavy or large luggage. In this case, I would recommend taking a taxi there from the station.
It’s a cozy, welcoming “capsule hotel”. Unlike other common Japanese capsules hotels that just have curtains at the end of your section, they have a lockable door for extra peace of mind. The “room” with the extra space is really useful for travelers that have luggage that they want to keep with them instead of in a common area. Staff are also super friendly and there is a range of discount coupons available for some nearby attractions.

United KingdomThe futon felt like lead and it was too hot. I couldn't get comfortable at all and being on the top room made it difficult to get in and out of bed. The main problem was that there was nothing to hold onto when trying to get out.
The staff were lovely and helpful. The shower was great with full shampoo conditioner and shower gel and there were plenty of toilet and sink facilities

Taiwan- The capsule double room is affordable but still spacious enough for two people. - The bed is comfortable. - The breakfast with DIY grilled fish is a good way to experience the traditional Japanese style breakfast, though you need to pay additional money on the fish and also the breakfast set is a bit too simple. - There are big lockers to put luggage in.

AustraliaI guess I should’ve known when I booked but the room is hard to navigate when you have to fold your futon back up and then down every day. That’s it though
Really good common area, lots of space. The staff were pretty friendly too.

NetherlandsThe wash area is not equipped with AC, so it gets very hot during summer.
Great location and amazing staff. It has a nice hostel vibe, but since the sleeping space is a capsule, you have more privacy. Common areas are clean and well maintained.

United KingdomThe shared bedroom was slightly small for the 3 of us.
The staff at Maruya were very friendly and accommodating. The Japanese style breakfast was lovely. We bought the fish from the shop opposite the guest house and cooked the meal at Maruya. Miso soup and rice were provided by Maruya for a small (300yen fee).
