Ou Hosts (Mama and Papa) were so lovely and supportive with everything, we stayed in the private room with a shared bathroom. It was super nice, clean and authentic. Our breakfast was also good!

Great hosts and staff. Very friendly, welcoming, and great at creating a warm environment where guests can socialize if they want to. They have adorable cats, and the facilities are very comfortable. The neighbourhood is full of amazing restaurants

My new home in Kyoto. I was warmly welcomed by mama and papa to their guesthouse, which was so cosy and traditional. A great feel for the Japanese homes. The environment was social and friendly, and the breakfast was so satisfying! Thank you mama!

I am a rather critic person but honestly like everything, I went there when they opened in 2014 for the first time and now in 2025 it is my second time and it is still amazing. The hosts of the guesthouse are extremely nice and generous, social and try their best to connect and create a beautiful moment for each guest and giving all their attention to help them. I highly recommend to book the room that is for a couple, it is extremely charming Japanese traditional room and has a beautiful Japanese garden on both sides of it.

The best hosts !! Thank you so much for this wonderful Time in Kyoto :) You will be welcomed warmly by this sweet couple in their traditional japanese house. The place is cute and clean, breakfast really good. There are two beautiful cats, and if you are lucky you will surely have some very sympathic roomates. I highly recommend this guesthouse

Best hostel I have ever stayed, the owners and everyone who stayed in the hostel was very nice and chill, made lots of friends and socialised with everyone. I enjoyed my stay very much and mama also knows a little Chinese which was very awesome!

Staff were excellent, so friendly and welcoming! The breakfasts were wholesome with lots to chose from, and the atmosphere was cheerful. The area had plenty food and drink options, and late night sento (public bath houses), and the izakaya I visited made me feel very welcome.

Papa and mama are soooo nice and welcoming! Mama is good at English and she introduced lots of food and nearby attractions for us. Also we rent the bikes here and the experience is really amazing!

My absolute favourite during my Japan stay. Mama and Papa are one of the most loving, jovial and cheerful people I have ever met in my life! Don't expect luxuries, but you will be treated to the best hospitality Japan has to offer. If I ever come back to Kyoto, I won't even search anywhere else!

If you are looking for a cozy place to stay in Kyoto, this heartwarming couple (Mama and Papa), with great humor and just pure joy, will make your stay AMAZING. It is really rare to find a place like this one. The atmosphere was just OUTSTANDING. Mama and Papa support you wherever they can: with reservations in local restaurants, recommendations for public transportation and spots of sightseeing, delivery services, (food for hangry people like me), yummy breakfast with everything you need, etc.,. The building is amazing too, since it is a really old house Japanese style. Don’t miss Papa’s calligraphy lessons and a tea/coffee and a chit cat with Mama or cuddling with the cats. Totally recommend this place !! Had tears in my eyes when leaving. See you soon!

Cutest family home that welcomes travellers. Comfortable, heated mattress. Many washrooms and showers. Close to bus stop which goes to main station. Papa of the house made calligraphy of my name in Kanji!

Our stay at Kyoto Compass is a highlight of our trip to Japan. Mama and Papa welcomed us to their guesthouse, explained how everything worked and made sure we had a perfect stay. Our room was large and opened onto 2 gardens. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast amazing. It is located in a quiet neighbour with many buses close by. It was nice to return home after the crazy tourist filled Kyoto. Mama is the perfect host and her and Papa go to great lengths to make everyone comfortable. I travel a lot and this is one of the best experiences I’ve had. Stay here, you won’t be disappointed. I would rate it higher than 10 if I could.

Mama and papa were amazing guests ! They helped you for everything and there are so helpful. I loved discussing with them during breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is prepared by Mama and it’s one of my favorite breakfast I did in Asia.
