Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandNothing! This place is fantastic and great value for money.
Everything! This place was very clean, very comfortable and had excellent facilities. They had a drying room for wet swimming and diving gear, which was fantastic and the kitchen was very good for preparing meals. You can easily walk down to the main area of town where the ferries and buses are.

RussiaNone! Everything met my expectations.
I enjoyed my stay at Guest House Chura Cucule Ishigakijima. The location is good (not far from the bus terminal), the personnel are very polite and friendly, and all the amenities have been provided. Price/Quality ratio met my expectations. You can use the kitchen utensils, the washing and drying machines on site and relax in the relaxation zone reading some manga or chating with friends. I loved that we went to the Southern Gate Bridge to see the sunset with the staff team (though the sunset was pretty bad that day haha!). Great choice for those who want to save some money and have a pleasant stay on Ishigakijima!

United KingdomNothing to report! Best guest house we stayed in Japan. Thank you for such a nice stay!
Amazing place! This would deserve a 10+. Spotless, comfortable, very nice staff and it felt extremely welcoming. Amazing sitting area and kitchen area, clean bathrooms and conveniently located close to the buses and lots of places for food and drinks z Would definitely return on a future stay in Ishigaki!

JapanThey charge little things like coffee and the coffee is not good at all. They do not allow you check in or use the common facility before check-in or after check-out. If you want to use common facility you need to pay: 400 yen for bathroom, around 1000 yen to use the kitchen and common space. In other guesthouses I've stayed throughout Japan, they allow customer use the common facilities before check-in and after check-out for free
Clean room and bathbroom Common area with kitchen Comfy bed In the city center so it's closed to many places like bus terminal, Ishigaki port, farmer supermarket, good restaurants

FinlandIt is one of the best hostels I have stayed at. The whole place has a serene atmosphere, everywhere is sparkling clean, and the staff is amazingly kind. The "dormitory" room is peaceful and cozy. The single room is very good (but just to manage expectations, it does not have a door or soundproofing but a curtain). I was so happy to be able to rent a bike for an affordable price.

FinlandEven though they tell the visitors to keep quiet in the evening, there’s always people who are not that considerate, bang their luggage through the night and so on. All the men share one big space so it’s up to luck if you get considerate people sharing it or not. During a week, I had a couple difficult nights when even earplugs didn’t help
A very clean place, a great vibe

GermanyThe "door" to the individual sleeping pods is just a curtain which would be fine (guests were very considerate concerning noise during my stay) but the curtains do nothing to block light. I had a "top" bunk and the hallway light was on all night and very brightly illuminated the entire pod. Needed two towels to block the light so there is a workaround but it could have been solved by just using darker curtains
Great Location (10min Walk from ferry terminal and all of the "city"). Staff is super friendly and speak fluent English. Has facilities to rinse/clean and dry watersports gear

United StatesAt all cost AVOID The single rooms (go for the dorm beds) , it makes ZERO sense why these are more money! The beds are not comfortable and the privacy is the worst I have ever experienced. This can easily be remedied by simply boarding up the sides and making the beds more comfortable with more padding under the mattress.
A Wooden Oasis with an Unforgettable Staff This bohemian-style hostel in Ishigaki is a hidden gem! The spacious, all-wood interior blends Japanese tradition with a relaxed beach vibe. The dorms are not only super clean but also surprisingly spacious. The full kitchen is a great bonus, and the location can't be beat – just a short walk from town. But what truly sets this hostel apart is the staff. They are, without exaggeration, the best I've encountered in over 50 hostels worldwide. From 10 AM to 1 PM, it's like witnessing a well-choreographed dance of cleaning and teamwork. Their positive energy is infectious, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that feels like family. ❤️ Special shoutout to "Sushi," a staff member who went above and beyond. His knowledge of the island's best beaches (he's a local paddleboarder!) was invaluable. Thanks to his tips, I discovered some truly amazing spots. The owner should definitely recognize Sushi's exceptional contribution – he made my trip unforgettable! If you're looking for a hostel that's not just a place to sleep, but a place to connect with amazing people and experience genuine hospitality, look no further.
