Great place, walking distance from a great beach and the "Demon's Castle' cliff with super friendly hosts who even gave us a lift to the station! The cheesecake is not to be missed!

This guesthouse is run by the kindest, warmest people ever. Such a sweet loving family who welcomed us even though we arrived late at night and made us feel at home. We even got a piece of homemade cheesecake. Also really recommend getting the homemade breakfast (French toast) it was so delicious (make sure to let them know you would like breakfast in advance!) the room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. We have a busy holiday schedule but since it was raining, we decided to stay a day in and it felt like a day at home, so much better than big hotels. I recommend this guesthouse to everyone!

    Nothing, it was literally perfect

I really liked that before arriving the staff made sure to update me on check in procedures and asked if I had a vehicle or not. Since I was walking, they kindly offered me a ride from Kumanoshi Station or Odomari Station! I also greatly appreciated being driven to the supermarket to buy dinner before heading to the accommodation. Upon arrival, they served cheesecake and apple juice as well as gifted me an oni trinket as a souvenir upon check in. The cheesecake is homemade and very delicious! I love how this is family run and they were very helpful giving walking trails and sites to see around the area. In addition to the above, everything about the check in process, additional information, and even prior check in messages had English translations and messages, which I greatly appreciated.

There wasn’t much that I disliked. If I had to choose one thing, maybe it was that the shower amenities only came with shampoo and no conditioner, but I didn’t mind this.

Although the hotel is a little dated, the room was very clean, the AC worked well, and the bed was comfortable. I appreciated the combination of tatami floor and western style bed. The staff are very courteous and kind and the breakfast was very good! The location is very convenient, especially for those travelling on the Pacific Cycling Route, and even though there wasn't a washing machine on site, there is a coin laundry nearby.

The location was excellent. The accommodation was comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised to have en-suite bath and toilet, and loved the retro charm. I would definitely recommend this place. And the slice of coffee-flavored cheesecake and apple juice when I arrived were fantastic. The staff were helpful, friendly, and professional.

Wonderful family dynamic makes up for any shortfalls in facilities. The family was so helpful and so positive that Kumano was possibly our favourite experience in Japan. They recommended an excellent little Teppanyaki restaurant in the village which we loved....and we got to walk the tunnel into town which was such fun. We felt our stay here was the most authentic Japanese experience we had....and I got to swim in the ocean!

The breakfast of French toast was a little too sweet for out taste but we ate it all! My partner really missed a mirror in our room.

Nice little guesthouse enthusiastically hosted by a really lovely family. Welcome juice and homemade cheesecake was a nice touch. Room was clean and comfortable for a night’s stay. Location is close to Onigajo walk trail.

Style of building and room is retro, so that’s something to consider if that is of concern to you. Room gets light which wakes you up early, and nearby road can be noisy if you’re someone that sleeps lightly. Eye mask and earplugs should ameliorate that if it’s a problem for you.

Rather than repeat how wonderful this guest house is, I thought I would describe what is available to do in the area. The guest house is a 15 minute walk to Omibare train station and 25 mins to Komanoshi train station. The walk from Odomari station is through quaint back streets without traffic. Between the guest house and the Komanoshi station, are three impressive walks. (1) the Matsumoto Komoano Kodo pass over the "toge", with a view out over the coast and town (2) the coastal cliff walk with its impressive limestone rock formations (3) the direct path through the mountain tunnel with next to no traffic. From Komanoshi station it is also possible to catch a bus to Sanmaida and do the 2.5 hour hike to a lookout and through the impressive rice paddies. Also part of the Komano Kodo trails. It is recomended to get bus schedule and trail map from the information center at the Komonoshi train station. There is also a beach close by that we did not have time to explore. I recommend staying for at least 2 days.

Very friendly family! They gave good recommendations on the area and went out of their way to give me a pleasant stay. I didn’t realise how beautiful Kumano was, it was a very fun walking around the area! Since I was here in early April, the path down the mountain was covered in blooming sakura. The bed was really soft and comfortable. I also liked that the room had a bath to relax in after the day.

Food was a small issue for me since the hotel is a bit out of the way and I didn’t have a car. But I got a really nice breakfast which was very sweet. They also have a mini konbini for noodles and snacks.

The property was neat and clean the staff very kind and friendly. They can pick you up from the train station so you can drop your bags and begin exploring.

My room wasn’t in the ocean side but I booked last minute. The ocean side would’ve been lovely a the full moon! And sun rise

Lovely place, lovely location, lovely room and lovely family. Probably my favourite stay during my solo trip, the owners were so kind and English explanations about the area were really good. The room was lovely with a nice sea view and the tatami floor is quite interesting , the kumano downtown is close and peaceful but have all the facilities you need. Highly recommend if you are interested in kumano kodo or travelling around Wakayama.
