How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI loved this stay! My husband and I stayed here after climbing Mount Fuji and it had everything we needed. It’s a traditional ryokan and everything was set up so perfectly. It’s small, so it has the feeling of staying in someone’s home. Our room was set up with a tea set and hot and cold water. We were treated to a full Japanese breakfast the next morning. And there is a private onsen (basically you reserve it by entering and locking the floors for other guests) which means couples can go together. On a clear day, you will see Mount Fuji from the onsen. On top of all that, the staff were incredibly friendly and kind and it was conveniently located in walking distance to many restaurants, the Fuji World Heritage Center, and the Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine.
Nothing. It was perfect.

Verified reviewThe staff was super nice and helpful. The open air onsen on the top of the building is a must. The futons were confortable. Great break first. Very tasty

Verified reviewIncredible stay, information does not reflect how good it is. Room had a decent size and extra facilities like a fridge or tradicional pyjamas provided. The onsen is for private use (1 family at a time) so you can all enjoy (I imagine it can get busy, but it was always available during our stay). Views of Mt Fuji from the onsen are breath taking. The staff was extremly helpful, going extra mile even if they spoke little english. The breakfast was amazing, one of the best we had. It was a full set meal of tradicional dishes, carefully presented and served.
Outdoor onsen is a bit dated (wood needs repair), but works perfectly.

Verified reviewBreakfast and dinner was amazing. We experienced foods beyond anything else we’d had in Japan, if you want to eat traditional Japanese fare, you will love this place.
Just be prepared to sleep on a futon which is very different (and hard).

Verified reviewVery friendly and helpful staff, the room was lovely, and the onsen was great! Even with a beautiful view of the mountain. The town is pretty cute as well, conveniently located near a train station.
The bed was a little uncomfortable for me since it was a traditional bed on the floor, but I think there were some additional pads in the closet that I didn’t take advantage of.

Verified reviewQuite conveniently near Fujinomiya Station (less than 10min walk), good for those who don’t drive. Very spacious, clean, and cosy traditional Japanese-style rooms with tatami floors and absolutely comfortable futon beds. High quality service from the staff who were very friendly, courteous and hospitable, even when we couldn’t speak Japanese and English was also minimal for them, they still did their very best. Just using phone translators can be useful! The private bath is free and had a nice outdoor bath with a view of Mt Fuji if lucky on a clear day! The inclusive breakfast was also traditionally Japanese and a true Japanese experience. It is a small family style ryokan with only less than 10 rooms, so it felt very homely rather than a commercial stay. There are also nice eateries nearby and a convenience store which is close to Fujinomiya Station. You can easily get to tourist spots like Omiya-Yokocho or Shiraito Falls from this stay as well. We arrived past the check-in time at 11pm (check in was until 9pm) and the staff was still still waiting at the entrance for our arrival with the footwear meant for us at the doorstep, even worrying that we were not going to arrive and forfeit the stay. The staff even urged us to quickly use their private bath while the water was still warm enough, and it was already past the bath’s opening hours. So overall the experience is exceptional and really worth the price as well!
Everything was good and enjoyable for us! But the following may or may not be something other guests should be aware of: - as a traditional Japanese inn, the room only includes your own private toilet and basin. The bathrooms are in the common areas so taking turns with other guests may be needed. However the inn has very little rooms so that should not be an issue. - getting there via public transportation from Tokyo might be confusing and lengthy but it’s doable. Of course if you can drive it will be the most convenient. - when entering the inn, you will have to change into their own footwear which is like bedroom slippers. Your own footwear will be kept away in their own storage areas. Personally did not have any issues with the above so the stay was great!

Verified reviewThe room is a traditional tatami style room, with a beautiful quaint charm! It's very spacious. The room had a bathroom without a shower but we used the roof top open air bath once or twice a day. You can enjoy a private hot spring spa with a stunning Fuji mountain view! The staff was so accommodating and friendly with impeccable service.
There wasn't anything we didn't like but we went there in January and there were some areas of the room where it was cold

Verified reviewOur favourite feature was the gorgeous onsen with a view of Mount Fuji! Extra bonus was that we could access the onsen facilities together as a couple which we haven’t been able to do in some ryokans we have stayed in previously. Breakfast was delicious and generous.

Verified reviewI love the hospitality of the staff there. Even we don't speak Japanese & they can barely speak Eng, but we found way to communicate effectively. The rooftop Onsen is the best. Great location to enjy peaceful Mt. Fuji. Great choice of food nearby. Their breakfast is also delicious & not pricey at all.
I love everything about this place. Will definitely come back
