Great location and very friendly host. Very comfortable and equipped with a bath that draws water from a hot spring.

Nicely renovated, good architectural details, great little bath with hot spring water.

A couple of scary spiders about.

    - The host is very accomodating. He helped us carry our luggage when we arrived and was ready to help us with anything we needed during our stay. - The room is larger than it looks in the pictures, we had more than enough space for all our luggage. - The accomodation is located right outside a beautiful shrine with a nice hiking path behind it. - The Shuzenji temple, Hie shrine, Bamboo forest path and 仰空楼 observation deck are all within walking distance. - The futons are extremely comfortable. - The onsen bath is very refreshing, just make sure it doesn't get too hot!

    - The accommodation is not bug-proof, but this is typical for accommodations outside of the big cities. - Most restaurants in the area close very early, around 18:30.

The place gives you a chance to try the traditional way of living without the pomposity and the expensiveness of a ryokan. Lovely stylish room, and everything you need is there for your comfort. The windows overlook a grove and a shrine that look amazing at night, as the lamps light up. The fridge was stocked with complimentary water bottles, and there were traditional robes in the wardrobe for inside wearing. We didn’t have to interact with staff, and the whole place seemed very relaxed, calm, and quiet. The only minor inconvenience is that there’s no daily cleaning, so the trash can fills up by day 3 or 4. A few dusty spots here and there, which is understandable, given how hard it is to maintain tatami floors.

The hosts were wonderful. Very charming atmosphere.

Building is still being renovated and from the street, kind of hard to know if you are in the right place.

The room was spotless and comfortable. We loved the small bathtub onsen and the eclectic atmosphere of the renovated building. The owners were lovely and very helpful. They gave us great restaurant recommendations ahead of time as the town is rather quiet at night.

The check-in procedure was slightly confusing and we couldn’t get into our room. But it was all fine in the end.

It’s a truly unique place, so creative and designed with love. All sorts of vintage and modern pieces brought together in ryokan style but it also feels a little like staying in a magical tree house. Our room was up an Alice in Wonderland spiral staircase imported from France, and it had its own hot spring bath tub. We were happy to meet Ando and his wife, who helped us checkin and find everything. All the restaurants he recommended were delicious and friendly.

Of course in winter it’s a little chilly outside the main room, which has cosy heaters. Just bring thick socks and take hot baths.

    Property response:

Thank you very much for staying with us! We are very happy to hear that you described our place as a “magical tree house”! Thank you also for the advice about the winter chill. We will continue to work on improving the comfort of your stay. We hope to welcome you again in a different season. We look forward to your next visit!

We loved the cleverly renovated room in the half-ruined former ryokan building -- a very interesting concept. Self check-in was easy and we found the room to be as described and very comfortable. Nice to have water straight from the onsen to fill the bathtub. Great location in the heart of Shuzenji.

    Nothing in particular.

    Property response:

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are very glad to hear that you were able to enjoy both our inn and the onsen and were delighted to see your children having fun exploring! We also appreciate that you left the room so clean ! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

The most adorable place right in the middle of the idyllic Izu. Besides aesthetics, the accommodation was comfortable and the owner was always ready to hell. I can't wait to go there again next time!

I loved everything about the accommodation.

    Property response:

Thank you very much for your kind comment! We are truly pleased to hear that you were satisfied with your stay. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you again!

The location was great, located very close to Shuzenji bamboo forest. The self checkin process would take a little time to get used to but it skips the hassle of checkin times and makes the process streamlined. The exterior and interior of the rooms were both very pleasing, and the interior was very spacious.

The room was a bit cold at night coming up through the floor is all it was, but on the mattress it was okay.

    Property response:

Thank you for your kind review. We will improve the coldness of the floor. Our ryokan retains the traditional Japanese structure while focusing on unattended, comfortable service with natural amenities. We look forward to seeing you again !
