Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAbsolutely loved my stay at Eternal Flame. It is a beautiful lodge and close to plenty of restaurants, as well as right across the road from a couple of the shuttle bus stops. Nao was a lovely host with excellent knowledge of the area to assist with deciding where to ski.

CanadaNao and his team went above and beyond with outstanding customer service, making our group feel truly at home. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication. Our meals were exceptional, our accommodations were fantastic, and we truly appreciated their thoughtful recommendations in helping us choose the right ski resort each day based on the weather conditions. Their assistance in securing dinner reservations in town made our experience even more seamless. Thank you!

AustraliaThe owners at Eternal Flame were so accommodating and paid close attention to the details. The coffee machine and beautiful, varied breakfasts made our mornings! I enjoyed selecting a book from the comfortable communal area and having a beer with other guests there too. The owners were more than happy to collect us and drop us to the bus station and the property was in close walking distance to Echoland. The two onsens made for a perfect ending to a day on the slopes.

New ZealandHonestly not a lot to improve. Perhaps the back entrance to drop snow gear off could have been dug out a little, to make the snow a little less sketchy to walk on
Wonderful service, comfy beds and delicious breakfast. From picking us up at the bus station, to helping organise our snow gear and tickets, to booking our restaurant each night, we were so well looked afterz Loved the onsen, massage chairs and communal lounge with coffee, tea and sweets

AustraliaNao and the team were amazing hosts, one of the nicest pensions I've stayed in Japan. So many small touches and thoughtful gestures really elevated the stay from a place to stay to go skiing to 'i can't wait to get back and relax at the Eternal Flame'. The mini onsen, delicious and beautiful breakfast, welcome drink ect. Can definitely recommend a stay at the Flame! 🔥

Netherlandsnothing - the only remark I could think of is that I was missing hooks/ rail to hang towels in the bathroom and maybe some hooks at the entrance for jackets
We stayed at the new chalet and loved it! Also the main house and lounge area is very cozy. The location is perfect to catch different ski busses and a short stroll to the Echoland Main Street with shops and restaurants. The in house Onsen was another highlight after skiing. Be prepared for an amazing 3 course breakfast!

AustraliaBeds a tad firm, but consistent with the rest of japan. There was a very convenient bus stop for one of the resorts but a little bit of a walk if you want to go to other resorts. About 10min with ski gear to get to the V2 bus stop.
Staff were lovely, Nao was so lovely to chat to and helped us with dinner bookings and ski hire. The three course breakfast got us well prepared for a day of skiing each day.

AustraliaThe beds were firm, and you could feel the springs; however, they were not totally uncomfortable.
Amazing experience from the moment we arrived in Hakuba. The hosts picked us up from the station before welcoming us to the accommodation. We had complementary champagne on arrival while they covered the check-in details and took our bags to our room. The breakfasts were amazing, different every day and served as 3 consecutive courses. Each day, the hosts were happy to book our dinner reservations in advance to ensure we got a table at local restaurants. The two onsens were game changing, perfect for a relax after a full day on the mountain. With bus stops right out the front of the hotel, we got to the mountain quickly and free each day.

AustraliaNothing.
Firstly, Nao and Kimmi (the hosts) are the nicest people! Our twin room with loft was tidy, perfect for 2-4 mates. The common area was very homely, and we felt happy to chill there and eat some snacks or have some of the fairly priced refreshments. Breakfast was awesome, with it being a three course meal every morning. The drying room worked great for our snowboard gear and had easy access from the road. I lost a room key while snowboarding (sorry!) and Nao stated he was “always on my side” insisting I didn’t have to pay. The hosts really made this stay special. Arigatou gozaimashita!

AustraliaMattresses could have been a bit more comfy but not a deal breaker.
From the moment you walked in the door you felt so relaxed and welcome. The hosts were wonderful and gave great recommendations of the area where to ski and eat. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The lobby was a beautiful space to relax, especially with our 8 month old baby. Easy walk to all the food options in Ecoland. We will stay again.
