Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Switzerlandthe internet (WiFi) could be faster (max. 1mbps) and the AC in the room is pretty loud if you leave it on during the night
good location and nice rooms with fresh towels and water everyday. Also a shuttle to the bus station that you dont have to walk the way with all your luggages

United KingdomNot the Curio's fault but be advised a quiet village with few eating options in the evening.
Was the only accomodation we could find for Shirakawago! However great rooms and facilities.

TaiwanThe wifi was extremely poor and kept disconnecting. I had to rely entirely on mobile data throughout my stay If you don’t need reliable internet, this place could be a great fit — especially for the comfort and convenience. But if a strong connection is important to you, that might be a dealbreaker.
The place was clean and comfortable, and overall I had a decent stay. There’s no check-in counter, but the self check-in process was smooth thanks to the clear instructions provided. It’s about a 25-minute walk from the bus terminal, and while I believe there’s a shuttle service available, I didn’t use it.

MoldovaThe wifi is rather weak - though it wasn’t a deal breaker for us since we had our esim 🛜 connection.
I truly enjoyed my stay at Curio: new and clean premises, comfy beds, lots of room amenities, not far from the terminal bus station, 2 supermarkets with walking distance, great view overlooking a kanda house(I stayed in room A103), caring hosts.

Czech RepublicThe accommodation was very pleasant and comfortable. It was a bit tricky to find at first (Google maps had some trouble locating it), but once you look around carefully, there are signs pointing the way. The room itself was very cozy and well-equipped – everything we needed was there and worked perfectly.

SwedenIt’s a very new small house with like five rooms, self check in, no reception, nothing but the rooms. The immediate surroundings are not that cosy as the village (maybe 15 min walking distance).
Clean rooms, a small walk from the bus station.

AustraliaI wish I’d known the courtesy bus did departing guest drop offs at 8.30 and 9am, as we would’ve asked to catch the return trip to get our bags to the Curio despite the fact we couldn’t check in yet. I think they are only used to people turning up in the afternoon. It was a long walk there with bags or you have to pay to store them at the bus stop and then get picked up in the afternoon.
Clean big room and the courtesy bus to the bus station.

SingaporeHotel is quite far from Shirakawago centre town. Needed to walk at least 30 minutes. The place was literally dead town at night with most food places closed in the evening. Had to buy food packs from supermarket for dinner as restaurants were closed. To me, Shirakawago is over rated and expensive. Day trip to Shirakawago should be sufficient & not worth staying overnight . The place looks better on video than actual.
Provided all the necessary amenities.

United StatesWish they had a table and two chairs. Because most local restaurants close by 4pm, we needed to eat convenience store foods at the room when we arrived too late and the room didn’t offer space for more than one.
Loved how clean it was, the organic and supplemental amenities, and they had best shower water pressure of my life!

New ZealandWe really loved our stay at CURIO Shirakawago—everything was seamless from start to finish. Check-in was easy with access codes provided in advance, and the room had everything we needed. It was spacious, with two very comfortable beds, and spotlessly clean. The location is excellent—an easy walk to Shirakawago village with breathtaking views of the valley along the way. There’s also a convenient store about halfway between the accommodation and the village, which made it easy to pick up anything we needed. A peaceful, well-thought-out place to stay.

FranceThe beds were a bit too firm for our standards, and the Wifi really slow.
The rooms are pretty spacious and super clean. There is a fridge and microwave, and water gets delivered to each bedrooms every day. It’s a convenient hotel but a bit ‘standardised’ - they are no receptionist and no common spaces to sit and have dinner, but if you are looking for somewhere nice to base yourself, CURIO works. It is about 20 min walk from the village, but has a lot of parking spaces in front. There is also a conviennent store about 10 min walk, very useful as no restaurant are open after 6pm in the village.
