Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandOne minor thing is that although we had a wardrobe we could barely fit our belongings in it because it was packed with bed linen and pillows.
The location was excellent if you like quiet areas, immersed in Japanese culture. There were several delicious restaurants and shops in the vicinity. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. They have a gorgeous, little onsen (open air bath) that can be booked at specific hours.

United StatesThe room is a bit smaller so it can be difficult to get around when you are going through the kitchen, but it really is a perfect room!
The staff was so friendly and welcoming, and made our visit stress-free! The entire facility is beautiful including the individual room. It was a wonderful way to experience a traditional Ryokan. The location is close to Asakusas Sensoji area. We would definitely stay here again!

United StatesI had an unforgettable stay at this ryokan. Everything about it was amazing from the relaxing sauna to the delicious meals, every moment felt thoughtful and special. But what truly made this experience stand out were the wonderful people working here. I felt genuinely welcomed and ended up becoming really close with some of the staff. In particular, Miyu, Yuki, and Yuto made my stay incredibly memorable. Their kindness, warmth, and friendly conversations added so much joy to my time here.

New ZealandWe didn’t stay longer.
I’ve never rated a stay a perfect 10 but this was fantastic. The staff were amazing and accomodating, greeting us with Japanese confectionary and green tea, taking our (heavy) suitcases up to our room, and making us feel cared about the entire stay. The room was absolutely beautiful. It felt like home which is hard to find in accommodation. The open-air bath was so nice and private with a good view. The breakfast was so nice and made with love. When we left, the staff waited with us for our car and helped us with our suitcases. The location was central to everything, and it was so nice walking through Sensō-ji to get to the Asakusa shopping areas. I loved this place, so worth the price, I hope to be back soon.

United StatesFor two adults and a teenager, the main room was pretty cozy in terms of having enough space to open suitcases (one at a time, basically), but that wasn’t really a big deal… we still loved it!
From the welcome to the goodbye, the staff was wonderful. We loved the beautifully designed, more traditional environment, as well as the boutique experience and personal feel. The dinner experience was truly exceptional, and we also enjoyed the Japanese-style breakfast (we just tried thinking of it as “lunch” and that we would get “breakfast” later). We reserved/used the onsen in the morning before breakfast and were glad we had the chance to try it. Overall a fantastic and memorable experience.

AustraliaAs part of the traditional stay experience, the ryokan uses futon beds, which take a bit of getting used to if you aren't familiar with them.
Excellent location in a charming neighbourhood, quiet and safe, an easy walk to Asakusa subway which connects well with many key locations in Tokyo. Staff were friendly, helpful and caring, and cleanliness was impeccable. We opted for the package that included traditional Japanese breakfasts, which were excellent, and also evening meals featuring traditional Japanese cuisine. These were served in a charming annexe called Nigou, eight minutes walk from the ryokan. We dined there four times and the food was superb - every night a different menu, featuring top quality ingredients and served with warmth and pride. The ryokan also has an outdoor onsen for which which you can book private sessions, located on the top floor with a view of the Tokyo SkyTree. A truly memorable stay!

United KingdomFirstly, the introduction given on check-in, to the culture and the purpose of the ryokan. I loved the location, even though it was in a great location, the road was very silent, so it was peaceful. The staff, very friendly and always keen to help, even after I checked-out. I've made some good friends there. Of all the places I stayed in Japan over 3 weeks, this was my favourite by far. P.S. Toilet and Shower were very clean

United StatesNothing! It was a great stay. Staff, room, food and experience all excellent.
Ryokan so some of the above questions are irrelevant. Size and comfort were great...for a Ryokan (not as opposed to a regular bed in a Western room). Terrific location, very quiet and relaxing, appropriately priced and very comfortable for sleeping on the floor! Reserved the private bath for each night which was wonderful. Food delicious and beautifully presented. Staff could not have been more helpful. Great interactions from initial reservation until arrival and throughout our stay. They did many things to make it as personalized a stay as possible. Very accomodating. For example, we came directly from the airport after a 13 hour flight. I had anticipated that we would not want to go for a formal 2 hour dinner. Instead they prepared a lovely meal for us and brought it to our room. It included a Happy Birthday - inscribed dessert for my husband. Very clean. Excellent bathroom and supplies. On a side street in a relatively lively area and quite peaceful. PS Make sure to walk over to the temple at night. Very close and even more beautiful at night than during the day.
