Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Bears Den was the perfect accomodation for our ski trip in Hakuba valley. The ski lodge is cosy and has all the necessary amenities, for example, a drying room and laundry room. The room is very spacious and the bed is large and comfortable. The best part of the lodge, is of course the host, Lesley. She is extremely sweet and accomodating, she will pick you up from the bus stop and drop you off at the ski resort in the morning. She also makes an amazing breakfast, which fuels you up so you are ready for the slopes right away. I would highly recommend Bears Den to anyone.

AustraliaLeslie is an amazing host, who looks after her guests. Every day it was fresh breakfast cooked for everyone. She also helped us by giving us a lift to the snow resort for the first time and she drove us to the train station on our last day, which was so kind. The accommodation feels like a cozy home. The location is just 10 minutes walk to the snow resort very accessible

United StatesOnly downside is the lack of washlets in the toilets :( I hope the toilet seat can be upgraded to have washlets soon. :)
Great service by Leslie in her awesome place at Hakuba. Communication with the host was exceptional and helped us with our whole stay in Hakuba, from food, ski rentals, and service to the ski location. There's also laundry in house and a nice common area to relax at night. Highly recommended!

AustraliaThe location was perfect to access Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba47 parks. Many restaurants to pick from for dinner in the area. Lodge facilities were terrific and great spaces to just chill after a day of snowboarding. Easy walking access to Hakuba Goryu ski area. Lesley went above and beyond during out stay to make us feel welcome and enjoy our time. Made it feel like we were staying with a friend.

A wonderful cozy lodge located in a very peaceful forest that is just 10 minutes walk to Toomi Gondola Station next to Escal Plaza. Hakuba Train Station is just 10 minutes drive from the lodge and Leslie, a very hospitable and kind host picked me up from Hakuba station. The room is very clean and provided amenities that I needed. Nice TV room with collection of books & games. Bed is very comfortable. Shower is great. Breakfast is excellent (locally sourced eggs are very yummy). I am definitely coming back !

Bears Den was such a great lodge to stay. It was Ski in and only a short walk up to the lifts. Usually Lesley would offer to drive us up each morning anyway. Having a beautiful cooked breakfast was the best way to start a full day on the mountain. Lesley was so welcoming and helpful. On the day we arrived she took us to a ski hire shop and picked up our gear for us when we were done. She also had an endless recommendation of local restaurants and places to visit. She made us reservations and then drop us to them. Our stay couldn’t of been better and we can’t thank Lesley enough for welcoming us into her comfortable lodge and listening to us talk afternoon while kindly serving us beers from her bar upstairs. The rooms were perfect, just what you need after a big day riding. Nice comfortable beds and perfectly clean bathrooms with fresh towels. I will be recommending Bears Den to everyone who is travelling to Goryu and I can’t wait to stay again.

AustraliaThis is more than just accommodation - it is more like going to stay with a friend who has a ski lodge (a very well appointed, designed and built ski lodge) - who wouldn't want a friend like this. Lesley and Grace are incredibly generous hosts and most of the guests are return guests so it is a friendly and warm atmosphere in the upstairs social areas and yet if you need time out, the bedrooms are comfortable and quiet. It is also a relatively small lodge so it feels special to be a guest there. N.O. may be my favourite skiing but I will always make time for Hakuba and my favourite place to stay. PS - a lovely community onsen is a 10 minute walk through the trees and past a beautiful shrine, a great way to end a ski day.

United StatesI wish there was a Bear's Den everywhere I traveled! Leslie was an unbelievably lovely host - just felt like we were house guests. Leslie prepared us beautiful homemade breakfasts every morning and went above and beyond to pay special attention to what we did and didn't like. She was a wealth of knowledge on how to get around and the best places to go, and even helped us with transportation as we did not have a car. Our room was quiet, comfortable, and tastefully stocked. We had an absolute blast at Bears Den and cannot wait to return.
