Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesDark Horse is a wonderfully charming and beautifully renovated property, nestled in a quiet web of small streets with verdant mountains surrounding you on all sides. The rooms are perfectly sized, meticulously clean and have all you could want to relax at the end of a day or hiking/skiing. Andy, Rika, and their dogs Momo and Hana were all super friendly, communicative and went WELL out of their way to make our stay an incredibly memorable one. The breakfasts and dinners were all so delicious and incredibly diverse and filling. We miss the DarkHorse crew so much already and can’t wait to come back to see what Hakuba and DarkHorse look like in the winter months! ANDY, YOU’RE THE BEST!

United KingdomHighly recommend if travelling solo or in a small group to ski in Hakuba. Location is a bit further away but the staff are very accommodating with drop off and pick up. Great social atmosphere with group dining and trips to nearby onsen which you would be very unlikely to find/visit otherwise.

BelgiumAmazing place to stay in Hakuba: comfortable beds, clean, just renovated beautiful place, cosy fireplace, amazing food & the best staff. It's a 10 min drive from hakuba centre and the main ski slopes but they provide a handy shuttle service. After skiing, they brought us to a beautiful onsen in the mountains to relax.

The hotel is modern, new, very comfortable. The shower is with fantastic water pressure. My favorite is the stove standing in the middle of the communal living room where guests can socializing and sharing experiences. No other local hotels have this setup. The food is absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. The hotel staffs can communicate in English and very friendly and helpful. I feel energetic around them.

JapanThis place is perfect to stay but if I should say one thing, it is Onsen !! But no worry, Onsen is under construction now and is coming soon1!
This place is literaly a darkhorse at Hakuba. Team Andy showed us a full of Omotenashi and made our trip more enjoyable. Each staff works for guests from bottom of their hearts and they seem to enjoy it at the same time. They are all down to earth and very friendly. I defenitely recommend you to pick up this place for your Hakuba trip. When you stay here, don't miss Robata yaki dinner : grilling by the fireplace, which make your trip even more enjoyable and perfect. It is very gratefurl for all your hospitality !!

AustraliaNothing, absolutely perfect.
Comfy rooms, especially the larger rooms, lots of space for luggage, clothes and nice ensuite. Staff are the friendliest people in Japan! They helped us so much when we had an injury during skiing and made everything so comfortable for us, and helped us get home safely. The food is amazing, best chefs in Hakuba. No need to leave the accommodation for food. Also got some lovely tours of Hakuba with the staff, going to onsens and shrines, cannot recommend this place enough.

AustraliaOnly thing that was a downside is that there is nothing near by other than other hotels or houses, so unfortunately we didn’t get to go out to any of the bars and see the nightlife but we ended up being super happy with all of the people we stayed with and had a fun time.
The staff were super friendly and so were the other people staying there! Met some great people that we will definitely keep in touch with for a long time. Great dinners although more on the expensive side looked and tasted amazing definitely worth it! Along with this the staff would drive you to the ski resorts every morning and pick you up aswell on the way back you could ask to swing by 7/11 to grab food and drinks!

United KingdomNothing specifically. I had a dormitory bed- comfortable, clean, tv and power/ usb points. Couple of points/ suggestions: (1) It seemed a bit odd that some guests with own rooms used the 1 shower in the dormitory room (? No other showers for some rooms). (2) could do with a drink room space- both for ski kit, towels etc
Lovely place, lots of character, good layout for communal area. The staff were all lovely and helpful.

United KingdomFantastic hosts, so accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. They literally drove us to the slopes every day and picked us up. They even drove us to Nagano to catch the train back to Tokyo at the end of our stay. The accommodation has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard and is super modern. To get the best from this property, get stuck in and meet the other guests, it's such a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Noise levels drop by 10pm to ensure a peaceful night sleep and the breakfast/ food it's awesome. Thanks for the fabulous welcome to all the staff at Dark Horse.
