Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe pillows were quite soft for my liking and the room was smaller than anticipated. The separate toilet room was also quite small. Due to the location of the accommodation, in order to get to Atami station, you need to either take the shuttle or a taxi, but this is arranged for you by the staff.
The hotel is very accommodating and all the staff try their best to help you as much as possible. Despite arriving at Atami station around 7pm due to delay in our Shinkansen because of heavy rain, we were picked up in a private van at the station and transported to the accommodation with ease. The reception staff spoke fluent English which made our check-in process very smooth. The private onsen on our balcony was amazing and the view from our room was stunning. The kaiseki breakfast and dinner were delicious and extremely healthy too, and on one of the nights, we got to experience the teppanyaki style dinner in the other building which was another level delicious. The hotel amenities were of high quality and they had a range of complimentary drinks available to guests.

CanadaWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay that we decided to extend it by another night. The room was spacious, open air onsen was relaxing, and the view was gorgeous. We had the kaiseki dinner and it was the best meal I had in Japan. Staff was amazing and super accommodating.

United StatesThe property was amazing but there were mosquitos flying around our outdoor hot spring. It would be nice to find a way to repel them. Also the padding on the lounge chairs on the balcony was thin.. i was surprised to feel the hardness of the chair when i sat down.
The moment we walked in we were greeted with an amazing view of the ocean, it took our breath away. We were served a welcome drink in front of this view and all the stress from traveling melted away as we took a moment to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of nature.

United StatesWe checked in early and it was a little awkward to be left sitting in the lobby with no instructions for where to place luggage and what sightseeing can be done while waiting for our room to be ready without asking. Not enough space for our suitcases which crowded the room. The lighting was a bit dim in the bathroom at night.
I loved the room floor plan where the toilet was on the other side of the room, and how the shower was situated between the bathroom and onsen. The private onsen size and view were wonderful. The meal plan was pricey but delightful with great attention to detail. Hotel location is perfect for a private and remote retreat as there’s only a little to do downtown. Strolling the neighborhoods was fun. Helpful transportation to/from Atami Station was a relief. Upon entering the lobby, the ocean view is breathtaking. Our servers during breakfast and dinner were humorous, friendly and courteous. The farewell on our last day as they send us off is bittersweet and memorable. Very classy.

I think this stay was the best experience in my traveller’s life! From the moment I booked -requesting allergies and other details to the moment we left the hotel. I cannot express enough how attentive the stuff are! They noticed during the dinner our kid was left handed, and breakfast was served on the left side. All I can say is Wow! and thank each and everyone who made this unforgettable memory for our family!

GermanyWe were not very impressed with Atami itself and spend most of the time relaxing in the hotel. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned but we did not mind. Not for travelers who look for night-life and entertainment.
We were very happy with our stay at Atami Sekaie. The hotel offers spacious rooms with a nice view and exeptionally nice service personal. It has a bit of an old-fashion charm to it. The little private onsen on the balcony was also nice and the meals were excellent.

SingaporeThe hotel was perched on a hill beside the sea, offering a breathtaking view of the water. A complimentary taxi service to and from Atami Station made transportation convenient. The staff provided exceptional service—warm, polite, and attentive, always demonstrating initiative and anticipating guests’ needs. The room was comfortable and spotless, featuring a balcony with a stunning sea view. The refrigerator was stocked with a variety of complimentary drinks. A semi open-air onsen on the balcony overlooked the sea, providing a serene and picturesque experience. The hot spring water was free-flowing and of outstanding quality. Both the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were exquisitely presented and delicious, crafted with fresh ingredients. The staff explained each dish in detail, enhancing the dining experience. Overall, we had a wonderful stay.

United StatesPublic bath at hotel is lower standard than expected given the price point for this hotel. While nice, it looks like a bit of an afterthought.
Property is new and modern with absolutely beautiful rooms. Stunning views of the ocean and the private bath in the room made our stay truly enjoyable. Staff was incredibly friendly and very accommodating. Food was exceptional, we truly enjoyed the Teppanyaki style and dinner and breakfast.

AustraliaI can’t think of anything but the price…. But you get what you pay for It’s maybe hard for people on a budget to be able to afford to stay here But we knew that before we came We decided to “lash out” especially as it was my mums 96th b/day and probably her last time to come to Japan Perhaps you could have various stays to make it more affordable? Like - only b/fast or only dinner… or even Ray only w/9 meals BUT, must admit, the meals were a highlight Actually one thing which may have been nice would have been to be able to experience “Tepoanyaki” one night as well as Kaiseki I do realise they are in different building stays But next to each other so possibly a choice that could of been fulfilled Originally I had thought this to add variety but we weren’t disappointed or bored with our menus- it was a nice touch to receive a menu each b/fast & dinner so we could ponder on what we were eating and also take home as a “o Miyagi” & a way of remembering
My mum, who is Japanese but lives in Australia, wanted to enjoy Japanese food & the presentation, variety and well thought out menu was amazing We came for her 96th b/day & the main reasons mum wanted to come to Japan was to eat Japanese food We weren’t disappointed The presentation was amazing- they do say with Japanese food, you eat with your eyes 1st. It was definitely the best Japanese dishes ever that we have had We had Kaseki They offered included pick up/drop off to Atami station which was appreciated We didn’t go out but enjoyed relaxing in our room Watching Japanese TV and movies through VOC that was provided - it made it more enjoyable and the room was very comfortable Having our own Onsen on our balcony was so so enjoyable & relaxing One morning I woke up early and watched the sun riise out of the sea whilst having an Onsen Even my mum could enjoy this Onsen As it was her bday, they offered being able to order a bday cake -& flowers too They also took a photo of us with the cake and surprised us with a framed photo We will remember this trip to Atami Sekaie for years to come A very very special stay!!!

United KingdomThe evening meal was a delicious curated seasonal multi-course menu, with tender wagyu beef as the highlight. The staff were so attentive even though we had very limited Japanese. And of course the room, onsen and view were amazing.

Czech RepublicFull disclosure - this place is much fancier than the places we typically stay. It's expensive - but it was worth every yen. The facilities are luxurious. The food is an absolute marvel - creative, beautifully presented, and delicious. The private onsen on our balcony overlooking the ocean is the perfect way to relax. And the staff were all so incredibly kind to us and our children (especially Mayu). Our few days here were amongst the very best we had in Japan. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing, memorable splurge.

United StatesNone. Just keep it up.
The breakfast and dinner were great. We enjoyed some of traditional Japanese dishes. Also we enjoyed coffee at the balcony over looking the Pacific Ocean. The location was quiet and privacy was ensured, so we were able to maintain our Nonerelaxing time. Last but not least, guest room with private open-air bath was great.
