Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustriaThis Hotel is in the middle of Atami. Good walking distance to the beach and also the city center. The most impressive was the Ryokan Breakfast in the room and the Ryokan dinner. The Dinner in my opinion is a MUST !!!!!!! The Onsen was also very relaxing.

AustraliaNot a thing!
Simply stunning traditional Ryoken building, interiors, bathing rooms and gardens. Calm and serene atmosphere, a magical journey back in time. Our room was simply stunning, the real Japan experience we so hoped to be immersed in. Close to local dining opportunities and shopping, fresh local seafood abounding. Beautiful friendly and helpful locals. We would return here again in a heat beat! All the staff at the Ryoken really need a special mention and to be celebrated, we were treated like royalty, pampered and our every need anticipated. We had a Japanese diner banquet served in our room. A simply stunning visual and culinary experience par excellence. Next morning the same again for breakfast, both meals served and hosted by our attentive, cheerful, charming and skill full host. To top it off a fond fair well and a lift to the station for the next part of the journey!

AustraliaThe Japanese Kaiseki breakfast was superb, The Tradional Ryokan service is always a great experiance and the staff are so attentive and helpful. I would like to say thankyou to Futaba who looked after us, she was amazing, so happy and friendly and went out of her way to answer any of our questions and help us in any way she could. She is such an asset to this Ryokan The onsen was spotlessly clean and so relaxing. It is close to the station but tucked away in a side street so you feel you are away from everything. Being given a lift to the staion on our departure was just another bonus.

United StatesOne of the baths had a seam that was peeling (it was above the water line, so probably not a big deal, but aesthetically noticeable). The lodging consisted of multiple buildings, and our room was in what I'd describe as an annex(?). To exit the property, we had to ride our elevator down 3 floors, walk across the lower level (which had the bath entrances, that much was convenient), then take a different elevator up a floor to the lobby, in order to leave our key with the front desk before heading outside. It was never a problem, but it was a little unusual. I believe we could take a staircase to the lobby from the basement, but there were no non-emergency stairs from the basement to our room, which means I was dependent on the elvator. Elevator dependency makes me a little nervous, but only because I worry about potential problems and delays..none of which happened during our stay. I really enjoyed the accomodation and had a fantastic time in Atami.
I had scouted the location online, but I liked the location even more than I expected! It was between the Shinkansen station and the beach (a little closer to the station, which was the "uphill" direction; everything very walkable). The pedestrian-only, covered streets were the most direct way to reach the lodging from the station, each filled with many temptations. However, we initially used the regular street to get to the lodging. It was slightly longer, but it was less steep and less crowded; thus, the eaiser choice while bringing our luggage. The lodging is close to a public stair case (the town is somewhat vertical, being built into its hills). When we checked out, we realized that our arrival strategy of following the car-road actually extended all the way down to the lodging, so when we departed, we took that to avoid steps. When not checking in/out, I actually enjoyed the staircases a lot. I always appreciate stairs from a health/fitness perspective, but also they tend to offer nice views and photo spots. We were only about a 5 minute walk from the pedestrian shopping streets by the station, another 3 minutes from the station itself, and in the other direction, less than 10 minutes on foot from stepping on the sand of the beach. The Ryokan itself had a lovely lobby and traditional, landscaped entrance, despite being surrounded by more modern places. Meals were served in-room. We had a really nice view out of our window, albeit partially obstructed by another tall building. Interacting with the staff was a pleasure. A few had near-perfect English, others had serviceable English, and I possess some almost-serviceable Japanese, so all in all, we were ok for communication. They had both indoor and outdoor Onsen, nicely appointed. The meals were delicious, fresh, and appealing. That said, our western-ness was not prepared for the live abalone (presented live, but cooked before being eaten). It was very memorable!
