Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Absolutely loved my stay here. The host and his family were so welcoming and it felt like I was back at home. With toys to play with, the walls being covered in different artwork and colour, being able to see Fujisan in the distance when you step out of the property - definitely worth staying here if you want a place to rest but also don't want to feel alone. The bed was comfy and having individual fans attached to our bunks as well as a big one to cool the entire room was great - especially during summer. I loved the open lounge area, I was able to meet some really cool people and chill out to escape the heat during the day. Also check out Kodachi cafe and the udon restaurant nearby - I look forward to staying here again when I return to Japan in the future :)

United KingdomThere's nothing to fault. We loved everything about our stay.
We loved the vibe!! There was a comfy lounge area to relax, bikes to rent, plenty of toilets and really comfy and spacious dorms. Really nice music is played throughout the day through the lounge - it felt like our home away from home.

CanadaThe location is a hair far from Kawaguchiko Station if the timing does not work to get picked up or dropped off (30 minute walk). During the hot summer months, a 30-minute walk with luggage would not be ideal. Otherwise, I have no complaints!
Masaya is so kind and friendly. He offers pickups and drop-offs multiple times a day for Honobono guests. He picked me up and dropped me off from Kawaguchiko Station upon arrival, departure, and when I went to hike Mt Fuji! The accommodation itself is such a fun and warm-feeling place, full of colour, art, playfulness, and invites socializing with others in the common area. The old, traditional-style house has been renovated thoughtfully to accommodate guests from all over the world. I met so many wonderful people here that I either connected with over conversations and shared experiences, or befriended and ended up exploring the area with. The shared rooms, beds and pillows are comfortable, and the shared shower, sink and toilet facilities were kept clean. Towels are available to rent for 100 JPY. Bicycles are also available to rent at Honobono (included if you stay 3+ nights, otherwise cost 1000 JPY per day) and worked like a charm to go around Lake Kawaguchiko. There is a water fill station in the common area which offers cold water, which was great to be able to fill my bottle before heading out in the hot summer weather, and Masaya let me use the hose outside to wash my gear after returning from Fuji, covered in volcanic dust! There are several great restaurants and convenience stores within a 10-20-minute walk from Honobono, as well as Royal Hotel Kawaguchiko where you can pay 1000 JPY (+ 500 JPY for towel rental + 100 JPY for coin locker) to use the onsen (great for post-hike) Overall, I would highly recommend Guesthouse Honobono while staying in the Kawaguchiko area. I will cherish the memories and new friendships I formed here and I hope to be back one day!

SpainHonobono guesthouse has been an amazing choice for our stay in kawaguchico. Its a beautiful house that keeps the old japanese style but has been renovated in a very modern and fun way. The rooms are very spaceful and clean and the commun areas are also spaceful and very comfortable. The views of mount fuji that you can see from the windows are priceless and the owner of the hostal is really friendly and helpful. From all the guesthouses we have stayed in, this was for sure the best one!

GermanyThere really wasn't anything I disliked; if you are super concerned about cleanliness, remind yourself of this being a family place, so it is lived-in-clean, not sterile-hotel-clean, but I didn't mind it at all.
I loved it here and would go as far as saying that this was my favorite place I stayed at in Japan. The host picked me up from the train station even though I gave him very short notice, was super friendly and even helped carry my luggage. The place itself is super homey, quiet and just quaint. Everything is there: A well-stocked kitchen, shared bathrooms, a common room and bedrooms. I came here to climb Mt. Fuji and see the area and if I were to come back, I'd stay there again in an instant! I don't think I slept better or had better conversations anywhere else on my trip :)

I loved the family that runs the hostel. I felt like coming home. This is good for the traveler that wants to connect with the Japanese style of living as well as those wishing to connect with fellow travelers. There is a nice and cozy room where people congregate and kitchen and fridge are accessible to all. Loved the neighborhood, walking distance to the lake and commercial street with groceries and restaurants. Mt Fuji can be seen from windows upstairs.

CanadaIt's a 30 min walk from main bus station but plenty of shuttles to and from bus station make life easiest. But only 10 min walk to the lake was nice and walkable to most restaurants.
Extremely affordable with wxceptional value. Amazing owner was friendly and helpful. Free bikes with stay were perfect for exploring. I rode my bike everywhere and it was wonderful. Rooms are exceptionally clean and I never had to wait for washroom as their was plenty of options available.

United StatesThin walls but that’s typical with Japanese homes. The instant coffee wasn’t great, but free is better than nothing!
I loved staying at the guesthouse. It was the first place I’ve stayed where adults of all ages and children of all ages were coexisting so naturally and pleasantly! The homestay is very child friendly as you’ll see the owners adorable 2 year old playing and hanging out with guests. It’s a very comforting and playful space and all the guests really interact and hangout with eachother. As a solo traveler I would make sure not to miss this place. I met lovely travelers I’ll stay connected to for life! Also free bikes if you stay 3 days or longer. Free tea and coffee! View of Fuji from the living room! Great overall value! Masaya the owner and his family make sure the house is clean and are very helpful if you need a ride getting places or recommendations. Some great little restaurants in the area. Don’t skip out on Yamaboushi for lunch, High Spirits for dinner, and you can do an onsen at Royal Kawaguchi for 1000 yen. Nothing fancy but it’s a nice and close option.

New ZealandThis was one of the friendliest and cosy guesthouses I've stayed at. The owner was so kind and went above and beyond for us. Offering pick ups from the station and drop offs at no extra cost. The vibe is welcoming and friendly, colourful character to the whole space. We hired bikes from the guesthouse to ride around, which was fantastic. The rooms were spacious, had secure luggage storage and lots of toilets/showers to share. Big shared lounge and kitchen. Really enjoyed.
