How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content

- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Proper cups would be better than paper cups!
No breakfast but Apa is close to station & main shopping eating areas. Has everything necessary for a short holiday stay.

APA has not had a very good reputation but this one is even less desireable than the ones in Tokyo. Honestly I had not expected much but I just can't ignore some points. 1. My room was not cleaned thoroughly before my stay, judging from the slippers and the old flapping bird origami that I accidentally found under my bed. But that did not bother me as much as the uncomfortable smell from the pillow and sometimes from the bathroom as well (even though the latter was quite subtle). 2. It looks like the AC in my room did not work at all. Thankfully Karuizawa was pretty cool even in early July, and I only realised this on my last night so I did not bother calling the staff. 3. They gave me a room on the 1st floor with a window facing the road, meaning I could not open the curtains during my stay. This is not really a complaint because I did not specify in my booking which room I want, but it still made me a feel a bit uncomfortable. You should definitely take note of this when booking at this hotel.
Good location, only a 2-min walk from Karuizawa station and 25-min walk from the old town.

Despite it being a non-smoking room, the cigarette smell was filled into my room through the aircon which is centrally controlled. The windows were not able to be opened. Temperture was not able to be adjusted by me

The laundry is located in another building and there is just one dry and washing machine which is extremely busy. We stayed there for ski for the whole week which desired to laundry service. Unfortunately, the washing machines broken and there is no other laundry nearby.
The location is great.

It was very hot in the room and the AC was centrally managed and unavailable for the entire time of our visit. It smelled like tobacco smoke in the hallways.
The bed and pillows were great and comfy. Comveniently close to the station.

The bathroom tub is a little high to climb in & out. The hotel lobby was a little too small & clamp, and only with few seats for guests waiting to checkin.
Within short walking distance to train & bus stations. Room was ready before checkin time & we were allowed to checkin before time. Staff were swift to do checkin & out for their guests.

The only downside was the room size—it was quite small, which might be challenging if you have large luggage or are traveling with family. While the layout was efficient, a little more space would have made the stay even more comfortable.
I recently stayed at APA Hotel Karuizawa and had a pleasant experience overall. The hotel is in a fantastic location, it is very near to Karuizawa station & Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza. The hotel’s amenities were well-maintained, and the room is clean. The beds were comfortable, and despite being a compact space, the room had everything needed for a short stay, including a well-equipped bathroom.
