Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaPay for basic things. No refrigerator. The mattress is so thin which gave me lower back pain and pillows are low and provided only. Overall it’s okay and close to Tokyo Metro Subway(Iriya Station)
Excellent value for money for the price you paid if you just need somewhere to rest after a day exploring Tokyo. The staff are corteus and nice. One thing which I didn’t like is you have to pay for basic things like body soap, shampoo and conditioner which they supposed to provide but it’s okay, I guess it’s because of the cost of running a business and to make their prices competitive. Thanks for the experuence and will definitely stay again in the near future when I visit Tokyo again.

JapanThe hotel had a no shoes policy so every time I entered or left I would need to use and then discard cheap room slippers. It was a small thing but it was an additional step that sometimes felt a little inconvenient. I had one issue with a provided pillowcase that was dirty(it look like dried blood perhaps?). It got changed promptly however.
I liked the location of the property. It was less than 20 minutes from the nearest JR station and just over 10 minutes from the nearest metro station too. I liked that I was provided a private locker space with key to store my belongings. Being given fresh hand towels everyday was also appreciated.

JapanCentral city noise made it impossible to sleep without ear plugs and there weren't any kitchen facilities... Lights were also on until almost 2am some nights... but that's more of a personal problem, since I'm hypersensitive to noise and lighting. Other than those small things, I had a really nice stay. Although, it was a bit of walk to get to any of the sights, which is fine in cooler months but hard on the body in the summer.
The staff was very kind and helpful, plus the cost was wonderfully affordable! The number of amenities was good, too. It had almost everything you could want~ The showers for the female dorm were always available and the water was piping hot! They even had a full size fridge in the room for all of us to share! The storage lockers were probably the best part, along with the amount of privacy; despite there being so many women in the same room. The common room was spacious, albeit a bit stuffy and hot. I liked the setup!

United StatesThe many unnecessary rules and strict, convoluted processes do give things a bit of a prison vibe. There's AC but it's still a little hot at night. Mattress is paper-thin; my back started hurting after the second night. Elevator system is very very very frustrating. Staircases cannot be used, so just one elevator - the only way to move throughout the building. So every time you want to move up/down just one floor, you often must wait several minutes.
Very near Ueno museums. Seems mostly Japanese locals staying there, plus a few tourists. Large common room for eating/working. No kitchen; just microwave and water boiler. Large luggage lockers away from the beds helps limit noise at night.

JapanNothing. I have stayed here before, and I was unlucky to be next to some person who snored loudly all night.
Abundant storage space, relatively clean and well maintained, amiable staff, has a sense of space and privacy unlike many typical capsule hotels squeezing everyone in one on top of another and next to a large row of capsules.

CanadaLowest price for accommodations I've seen, great value for your money - and you're given basically a changing room for your closet and luggage storage. Free face towels, toothbrushes, and slippers were a great bonus. Lots of air purifiers all around the floor. Staff were very friendly, fluent in english, and hard at work cleaning everyday.

JapanEvery time you enter the hostel you will need to put your shoes in a single-use plastic bag provided to you and carry them with you to your capsule. (Most people leave their shoes in their capsule's cupboard that they can lock). If it is rainy, then it can be inconvenient to leave your wet shoes in a plastic bag in a small, closed compartment for an extended period, as they may not dry or ventilate as effectively as they might on a shoe rack near the entrance. I imagine this protocol was introduced for safety reasons and it is not the most inconvenient thing in the world, but the process can be a pain sometimes, especially if there are multiple trying to enter or leave the (small) entrance of the hostel at once. Apart from this, my only negative experience was with some lodgers not respecting the rules of the hostel after hours. My capsule was located near the elevator and bathrooms on my floor, which meant that I could hear it when people came back from their nights out and were particularly loud. This led to me waking up a couple of times unnecessarily, but is more of the fault of the loud guests as opposed to the hostel itself.
This hostel is incredibly good value for the price and location. It is very well connected with the Tokyo metro, and is also just a 15 minutes walk from Ueno. (A main Tokyo train station). The capsules are larger than many others I've stayed in, each capsule has its own dedicated cupboard with a lock that has space for big luggage, and the amenities provide everything needed. Many cheap hostels have a small bean-bag pillow to sleep with, but this hostel uses quite large, decent quality pillows. The facilities are split by gender, including the bathrooms. The fact that you can enter and leave as you wish (24h reception) is also a big plus, as this is not always the case. I have lived in Japan since August 2024 and travelled regularly on a budget. It is normal to pay 2,500 - 4,000 yen for a cheap hostel in most places in Japan, so the fact that this hostel, which is located so centrally in the capital city, is available for just under 2,000 yen in 2025 despite inflation is very impressive.

CanadaYou can get unlucky and get placed close to the ceiling ventilation fan which will be distracting and noisy at night. Earplugs will help with this to some extent. There's only 1 elevator and you can't use the stairs so it's just a minor inconvience to wait for the elevator. Many standard amenities such as shampoo, conditioner and body wash are not provided but they can be bought at the vendor machine for quite cheap prices on the first floor. It is quite the long walk to the nearest subway station.
The value that you get from the price is pretty great. The beds are pretty clean and the opportunity to change sheets daily was nice. Lots of available showers that were fairly clean. You are provided your own locker which is very spacious.

CanadaHard time sleeping because there were a lot of people sharing that hallway. I did pay for this expecting for there to be a lot of people. There was only one elevator. It sometimes took a while to get where you wanted because of that.
Being able to ask to change bed sheets after every night. I only did so after the third night, but I got what I asked for and was happy that they changed my bed sheets.
