“This was one of the best stops during our travels in Japan. We got picked up at the Fujinomiya train station by our hosts. We enjoyed riding the e-Bikes that we could rent from our host, as this allowed us to visit the local restaurants (we had a wonderful time with the locals at the お好み焼 和 Okonomiyaki restaurant) and the Kunugi Fish Farm, where we could fish with the family. Our host Hana was fantastic, she even arranged a drop-off at Fujinomiya train station outside of the regular drop-off trip, which is 10:30 am, so we could spend the morning in this fantastic rural area.”
“The house was spotlessly clean and the location was simply perfect. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room with futon bedding, which was both comfortable and cozy it gave us the feeling of experiencing Japan like the locals do. The host was incredibly attentive throughout our stay, always making sure we had everything we needed. He even went out of his way to pick us up from Shin-Fuji Station and kindly drove us back when we checked out.
Although the house has an amazing view of Mount Fuji, unfortunately the mountain was hidden by clouds during our visit. Still, the setting was so peaceful and beautiful that we didn’t feel we missed out. We rented bicycles and cycled to the Shiraito Falls, which was absolutely breathtaking. If you enjoy nature and want to spend some quiet time away from the crowds, I highly recommend renting a bike and exploring the area it was one of the highlights of our trip.”
“Such an amazing stay! The place is a LOT more remote than I thought, because I didn't check the map properly, but it was an amazing, if unexpected, escape from the city.
Despite our poor planning, the hosts went above and beyond to ensure we got everything we needed. The room and facilities were beautiful and immaculate! The landscape and environment were unbeatable! We saw monkeys! Just wild! By the side of the road!
Treat yourself to an ebike ride around the town and check out the fishing pond that cooks the fish for you (kunugi fish farm) and the incomparable cafe (古家cafe自然坊), the food was delicious and wildly affordable and the staff unbelievably welcoming.
Best accidental trip to rural Japan I can imagine taking!!
