Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI genuinely cannot fault this hotel. I suppose if I had to criticise I would say that when booking online I had not appreciated that the swimming pool was not actually at the hotel, but at the sister hotel Giordano which is a few minutes walk down a hill. If you are holidaying with children and want to be in and out of the pool all day then Giordano would be a better choice perhaps.
This is an outstanding hotel that far exceeded expectations. We have stayed in Ravello and the Amalfi coast over the years in a variety of places from budget to 5 star (Palazzo Avino). Villa Maria is head and shoulders above the competition. The setting, view, ambience, restaurant and outstanding service from staff are all 10/10. We felt like we had "come home" from the moment we arrived, with such warmth and hospitality from all the staff. The menu and wine list are also outstanding, but they also have some less expensive items too, so you could have say a 4 course fine dining outstanding formal meal (with a fabulous wine list the size of a mediaeval bible) at over 100 euros each, or a caesar salad for 20 euros. We made the mistake one evening of dining at Palazzo Avino (having stayed there 15 years ago when it was Palazzo Sasso). We found that to be a distinctly underwhelming experience by comparison with its former self from the Palazzo Sasso era. Poor quality food masquerading as michelin-starred nouvelle cuisine, service was good but formulaic and without the warmth and charm of Villa Maria, and vastly overpriced.

United StatesThe concierge service was lacking prior to arrival. I had contacted the property, and several key details were left out. The most impactful was information on how our luggage would be transported from the Taxi drop. For early risers (5:30AM) the security (?) seems annoyed he had to open the locked gates for my morning walk abouts.
The Breakfast was exceptional! More than enough options both sweet and savory to satisfy even the most finicky palate. Beautiful baked goods almost looked too pretty to eat. ALMOST! The location, while up at the tippity top, provided views beyond. Walking up the unique medieval paths gave one a sense of awe every day. As well, an excuse to eat ( and eat) at all the incredible restaurants Ravello and Positano has to offer The garden setting was a pretty respite (daily moderate steps and hills) to take each day all in. Our villa space enjoyed a very large outdoor private area with incredible flowers to relax, reflect, and plan the next days activities each evening. Lastly the people. so kind and knowledgeable. They also secured our restaurant reservations ~ a must in high season on the Amalfi Coast!

United KingdomWe did tell the reception staff about our wedding- it would have been nice to have had some recognition from the manager - but we didn’t get any
We were married in Ravello 23 years ago and stayed and had our wedding breakfast in Villa Maria - so it was lovely to go back.

This place was A+ all the way. Our room was very spacious and very clean, the cleanest I have ever seen in all my travels. The staff was always very helpful and friendly, especially Margarite at the front desk - she helped us with all our questions and went over the top with providing us mass times for several different parishes in the area. Oh, the restaurant was also very incredible, with excellent attentiveness by the entire wait staff, and exquisite culinary dishes. You will not be disappointed with this Hotel!

AustraliaNothing, it was great and exactly what we thought it would be, would have been nice if the hotel bar stayed open longer than as it’s a great spot for a drink after dinner.
Great. Clean and decent size rooms. Staff were really good and looked after whatever we required. Parking was easy and that’s saying something on the Amalfi. Only stayed the one night but it was great and would stay again.

United StatesThe location of hotel was far from center of Ravello which could be challenging , especially for guest who might have difficulty in walking . The bus services to Amalfi and back was busy especially in Amalfi. We will recommend this property for guest who would like to relax in montainous countryside of South of Italy.
We are glad to visit Ravello. The atmosphere was great. The staff were professional , kind and helpful. The breakfast was relatively good.

United KingdomWe loved our stay. The Villa Maria met or exceeded expectations. Ideal setup because you have a holy sh&t view at the outdoor dining area for bfast and dinner, and the amazing pool at their sister property just down the road. For those looking for a great stay in Ravello but who don’t want to pay the prices of the Belmond or Avino, this is a great find. Aldo, the restaurant manager, is amazing…make sure to inquire about the hotel’s spectacular wine selection.

BrazilIt was a last minute reservation, so I have no complains about the hotel. We got there by car, these was a parking (charged separately), but it was not close to the hotel. But I understand this is a limitation because of the city geography.
The hotel is very charming. The breakfast was good. The bedroom seems to be a little old, but yet clean and comfortable.
