How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewthe apartment was amazing .. we had our base here and discovered the surrounding islands ... the apartment is centrally located in the small coastal town of canetto ... in a car-free area ... very quiet ... the bed is large and comfortable ... the kitchen is spacious and equipped with everything ... the bathroom has a good shower ... the best thing was the large covered terrace, which we could use in all weathers ... breakfast, barbeque, chill-out ... simply wonderful we had really wonderful days here
small (very small) flaw ... there is no work surface in the kitchen .... that was sometimes a bit challenging

Verified reviewPerfect for our two week stay (with my 83-year old mother!) Very bright and clean apartment in a fantastic location about two blocks walk to everything (with no steep hills.) The view is lovely as is the main bedroom. My mother felt really special sleeping there! Didn't use the pool/garden area b/c it was Nov. but it looked nice too. I would definitely stay here again!!! If you do, be sure to try the granita con panna at Tano's Bar on the main street. It was phenomenal and Tano was very sweet and helpful.
Dear Kristin, I am really happy to read your opinion about the stay in my 2 bedroom house. the Location and the view, are the strength of Casa Pompelmo, and knowing that you appreciated our Sicilian granitas ... special ... makes me happy. in November you appreciate nature, the beach in winter, the autumn colors ... certainly different from those of summer. thanks patrizia

Verified reviewCanneto is a lovely village in Lipari; we greatly enjoyed staying at Villa Agrumeto, the pool and the view from the apartment. The apartment has two large bedrooms, one of which with air conditioning. The kitchen is equipped enough for basic needs for breakfast and basic meals. The apartment has a lovely bathroom with a walk in shower. To note is that the flat can only be reached by walking through the narrow village walkways but the taxi or bus can take you very close (within 100-50 m of the front door).
We stayed as a family of 5 and white the bedrooms are large the rest of the apartment not so much so we felt that the place would be more suited for 4 people or less. The air conditioning temperature was set not to go below a certain temperature and we found that at times it was not enough to cool the entire apartment especially the one bedroom with no air conditioning of its own.
Dearest Sara, thank you for expressing your experience at my house Pompelmo. to answer about the air conditioning, I have to say that I had a fault, which was fortunately resolved after your departure...(on the report of another guest) for this reason it did not cool enough... it is a Dual, there are 2 splits and now it works great! Verified reviewNice little apartment that had everything we needed. The little pool was good fun for the kids, especially in the middle of the day when it was too hot to head to the beach! Close walk to the Coral Beach club which kept us entertained for an afternoon. Francesco and Patrizia were very good hosts. Francesco gave us a warm welcome (we used Google Translate very well!) and helped us whenever we needed it. Its a great option if staying on the coral coast, which is only a short bus ride from the centre of Lipari. However, there are somewhat limited restaurant options in the immediate area. Luckily the apartment has a good little kitchen so we just grabbed supplies from the supermarket nearby and cooked up some pasta.
Carissimo Adam, I am very pleased to read a detailed description of the house and the location. Canneto is the seaside resort par excellence ... providing use of the kitchen, gives guests the opportunity to be independent. Patrizia

Verified reviewNice terrace and close to a good gelato place.
1. We had booked a 2 bed and were given a 1 bed last minute which did not look like the photos. 2. Very old apartment and toilet which had continuous issues with not flushing (not caused by paper) and old shower with low pressure and curtain. The bed was very hard making it difficult to sleep and the apartment was filled with someone’s items (maybe someone lived there?) I should have taken some photos to upload here. 3. The host sent a lot of aggressive WhatsApp messages and was very strict with timings and said there was a rule book with WiFi (there wasn’t). Ultimately it caused a lot of stress and a cloud over the trip so we checked out early. 4. The host requested payment in cash for more than the amount on this site. We “negotiated” down to 10 euro more than the amount on this site. 5. Warning - in case it happens to others - the host wanted to mark as a “no show” perhaps so we couldn’t leave an honest review?
Honesty????? I am available to help my guests avoid inconvenience, for any need JUST ASK AND COMMUNICATE!!!! I believe you behaved INCORRECTLY. I read a series of inaccuracies that I want to specify here: YOU BOOKED AND THEN CHANGED THE DATES OF YOUR STAY TWICE and the last request was at a price that was higher than the one booked. You asked me to pay the same price even though you were aware of the difference...and I gave you a discount... I have never read such an unfair review from my guests. Unfortunately I am not on the island in this period, that's why I try to give assistance via WhatsApp and you have had my attention... I have never had "aggressive" attitudes with my guests which I consider of primary importance... fortunately my reviews confirm it! perhaps you misunderstood my words... sometimes with a chat it's easy to ignore... maybe if I was present on site, you would have communicated more clearly... and above all I'm sorry that instead of enjoying the beautiful view from the terrace, the your attention went to a bed (different as you write here) and a toilet flush!!!! Patrizia

Verified reviewComfortable accommodation, nice bathroom, comfortable beds. Francesco helped us with the bags and was helpful.
1. One has to climb some steps and walk a narrow passage to reach the apartment, so it's a bit of a hassle with bags 2. There are no windows in both bedrooms 3. Could find a toaster and water heater base was missing 4. There's no connecting Terrasse or balcony
Dear Kshama, thank you for expressing your opinion. The island is shaped by many small streets to reach the homes, typical of the island. There is a toaster in the apartment, you have to look inside the kitchen furniture. In the bedrooms, 3.80 meters high, there are doors with high windows, as were the portals of the past... the house dates back to the early 1900s... completely renovated in 2020, leaving its original characteristics . Verified reviewIn the off season Canneto is a quiet seaside town, which we quite liked. Buses between Canneto and Lipari run reliably according to schedule. The bus stop in Lipari is right outside the ferry terminal and in Canneto you get off at the church. The place is a couple of blocks up the hill from the church (not too steep). It’s an older place with rustic charm, spacious and comfortable, although softer pillows would have been nice. Lots of hot water, good wifi. Highly recommend Aliante travel agency to arrange boat excursion to Stromboli and the bar that’s a couple of blocks away for meals.
While the place is quiet, the refrigerator made a whooshing sound. The pool was closed for the season.

Verified reviewThis accommodation is ok, but quite basic and expensive for what it is. The balcony out the front of our unit was a nice place to sit and there are lots of gardens and trees around. We had a number of quite unpleasant interactions with the owner who was away for the week and seemed determined to treat us with suspicion. However, there are a lot of reviews here saying how nice she is, so perhaps she was just having a bad week.
Be aware that if you ask the owner to book a taxi from the port, you will have to pay €25 for the taxi AND €25 for the service of arranging the booking. There are plenty of taxis at the port so just arrange your own.
I expected a review like yours Jennifer! here I leave you my answer: first of all I offered to book a taxi for you, specifying the cost in whatsapp, which is NOT a free service. In the end you didn't pay the cot supplement to make up for the inconvenience you experienced due to the misunderstanding of the taxi service... If by expensive you mean a sum of 25 euros per day per person (since the original booking was for 3 adults and 4 children, even though I didn't correct the price) it is expensive ... I think that traveling in apartments in Sicily you met! I hope that whoever reads the Host's answers gets an idea of the fact that the guest is not always objective ... I'm only sorry for not being present ... during the period of your stay because I know that my guests they always leave Villa Agrumeto quite satisfied. Patrizia

Verified reviewWe really liked our stay - the neighborhood is very nice, quiet and very close to the beach. The trees and shrubs around the house keep the area pleasantly cool, even on hot days. The terrace was our favorite place to eat the breakfasts and read books - we also had an amazing sea view from there. Very close to the house, we had a bakery, few supermarkets, tabacco shop, caffe, fish shop and a pier from which ships sailed to other islands. Concerning our host, Patrizia - she was great. She organized a trip to Volcano and Panarea + Stromboli from the sea. She was very kind, helpful and patient. She prepared for us fresh fruits and water, in the kitchen we had everything we needed to prepare food including spices, tea, coffee, olive oil etc. She was answering all our questions, making sure we were ok and advising us places to see, eat, rent a scooter etc. There was also another lady, Tania, if I remember well, she was also very kind - she offered us khaki fruits from the local tree and entertained us with a conversation from time to time. We regret we didn't book a longer stay - I wish I could enjoy the peace and beauty of this island for longer. Maybe we will come back - then we will definitely contact Patrizia to book a stay again.
Dearest Guest, you have been very nice in expressing your experiences on the island and in my home. Making my guests feel good is very important to me. Thanks for everything Patrizia

Verified reviewTHAT VIEW. It felt like such a privilege to wake up and come home every day to such a breathtaking vista and the peace and quiet of an island village. It was so nice to be close to all the amenities of Lipari without being IN the tourist zoo—it forced us to slow down, which was exactly what we needed. It’s a short (albeit steep) walk uphill from a lovely stone beach, excellent cafe, and the best breakfast spot we’ve found so far in Sicily. Patrizia was a wonderful host—she gave great recommendations for food and also hooked us up with a boat ride that was one of the highlights of our vacation. We would LOVE to come back for a longer stay.
receiving this review makes me very proud .. I'm glad you wrote so many useful details for those who will read the comments. Thank you so much Patrizia
