How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFor access to the Vatican it was exceptionally easy, and was a great location for sightseeing Rome as a whole.
We were slightly duped by the description. I was supposed to be working while my family went sightseeing, no wifi and the response was ask the cleaners when they come in after 10am, obviously my 08:30 meetings were held in a busy noisy cafe. The kitchen area had no utensils, crockery or cutlery and only a two ring hob. A medium size fridge served all the rooms and was raided by another group who thought it was a comp unit. The building itself is a beautiful place, with a gorgeous quintessential Italian lift. With a food clean,(dirty floors so wear slippers) with a bit of a tidy up the ‘apartment’ would be fabulous.

The owner was rude to us, we couldn’t get in the room because there was no train from the airport and we arrived 1,5 hours later, no one waited for us and we had do find another hotel at night. Air conditioning didn’t work and it was very hot inside. Time to time toiled didn’t have water.

Verified reviewPerfect location for what we needed for the night. Contacted via text with instructions (in Italian!) which was ok, copy n paste into translator, no problem. Keys were left with the very helpful shop worker below as instructed. Simple pastry and drink for breakfast in the cafe just around the corner. Very secure with numerous keys for different doors.
Maps on iPhone isn’t correct, took us a while to find. Shown a local guy the message which he then helped us to find the correct location. Shower had no pressure and wasn’t warm. Was what it was for a quick wash and cool down

Verified reviewStrongly not recommended – worst Booking experience ever Unfortunately, I have to say this was one of the worst stays I’ve ever booked through Booking.com. I’m devastated and extremely disappointed by the way I was treated. First of all – the address provided on the website did not match the actual location of the room. The property was located several buildings away, a few hundred meters from the advertised address, which caused confusion right from the start. Second – communication with the staff was extremely difficult. The people responsible for handing over the keys did not speak English well enough to explain anything properly. I was also surprised by an additional charge of 28 euros for two people for two nights – supposedly a “city tax” or something similar – which was not mentioned anywhere on Booking. The room itself was completely different from what I expected. It was located in a corridor with several other rooms, which completely eliminated any sense of privacy. The bathroom had no hot water – it would take a long time to appear, and then disappear shortly after. This happened every day, at any time. When I contacted the owner, I was told to “wait a few minutes”, which was not a real solution. Noise from the street was unbearable – old windows, no soundproofing, and no curtains or blinds to isolate the room in any way. There was no drinking water provided in the room – something that should be a basic standard. I had requested a room for two people with separate beds – I received two beds pushed together, which were very difficult to separate. Sleeping was extremely uncomfortable. The next day, a staff member (again with no English skills) showed up, left two sets of bedsheets, and left without saying a word. Access to Wi-Fi was also an issue – I wasn’t given any information in advance.

Verified reviewNothing
Not what expected. Pictures on brochure are wrong. Breakfast was at different location and minimun. Keys pick up at different location. AC does not work. Neighbors fighting and try to open our door twice on one night. Not secure place. If there were at rate lower than one, that will be perfect.

Verified reviewThe location of the apartment was good. Public transportation was nearby, and a large market was located 200 meters away. A variety of pastries and different types of coffee were offered for breakfast.
The condition of the apartment was very poor. The elevator could barely fit one person. The entrance doors and the bathroom door were almost falling apart. To enter the apartment, you had to carry around six different sets of keys. The rooms did not match the pictures. The bathroom had major water issues — the water pressure was very low, and having hot water was more like a rare privilege. We had booked two rooms, and in one of them, there was no hot water at all. Someone came to supposedly fix it, but the problem persisted. We ended up having to shower in cold water, even with a 5-year-old child. However, I must say that the person responsible for the apartment, whom I was in contact with via WhatsApp, did their best to make things right.

Verified reviewThe pictures advertised are not at all reflective of how the place looks. We booked a room for 4, it was advertised as having a double bed, single bed, and a sofabed, instead we were cramed in a tiny double bedroom. The host will also send you a message with a different address and will ignore your requests for clarification. There is a kitchenette that cannot be used for cooking and sitting down, it is very small. The breakfast is in a caffe a few meters from the room with very limited options (basic pastries, most items are to be paid for. The drinks for children do not even include a hot chocolate with the only option being milk or you will have to pay extra for it.

There was no hot water and shower wasn’t good for a proper bath. Also there was no single fork or knife in the kitchen. It could be better cleaned, the breakfast was at two blocks away for a cup of coffee and a croissant.

Verified reviewBedding was clean, bedroom was clean enough. Room was fine. Location by the Vatican was excellent, pharmacy and supermarket nearby.
Bathroom could be a bit cleaner, tap head is broken and comes off in your hand but still works. Shared kitchen didnt have enough plates or any cutlery just one small pan and a kettle. Had to spread marmalade on our bread with our fingers and cut off chunks of pecorino with the bottle opener/Swiss army knife.
