How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNothing. The best of the property was the guy from the local market (where you got the key) and the guy from Cafe Doria (where you get your breakfast)
It was a scam: The AC did not work well The safe was not working The WiFi didn’t work properly (in the morning never, sometimes late at night) The fridge was not working and… No hot water!! Since I arrived and noted and talked with Carla too many times and the answer always was: it is hot outside, the cleaning guy said that it is ok, I will talk with him and he goes there…but, I think he never even came to our room to check - bc I left a message and some other things blocking the shower and these were in the same position when I came back. 5 days there with really cold baths… I tried to contact Booking in Rome but the call didn’t make it.

Verified reviewWhat I like the most about the apartment was the location. Right near Vatican City with a lot of bus stations around and also the metro was close. You can find a lot of cafes and restaurants around too. The apartment was clean with a little fridge inside and a tv, but it was getting hotter over day and we couldn’t find the remote for AC and also we didn’t receive any information in how can we use it.
What I didn’t like about our staying can begin with the fact that at first we thought that it’s a little hotel having the option of breakfast and also the room in the pictures was looking like a little hotel room but it’s an apartment not even it’s a room with a bathroom and that s it and when I tried to revive information about that they didn’t told me that it’s not a hotel they just let me believe whatever I believed, but this could be a language mistake bc it was very hard to communicate with them at the apartment it was an hardworking man waiting for us which is not speaking English at all we barely understood him but when we arrived downstairs it was the owner which is speaking English pretty well but she just opened the front door for us and didn’t came to explain or help us in any way and i don’t understand why. Also until we got there it was difficult to get any informations about anything. Also the breakfast it was a little cafe on the corner of the street from where every morning we were allowed to choose only one croissant and a coffee/juice, they had some sandwiches but they didn’t let us to choose that instead and if we had knew we would choose this option anymore bc like I said there are a lot of places where you can find croissants or sweet things and they are much better and not expensive. I would have like a better communication. The room it’s fine if your coming to Rome to visit like we did bc we were staying in the room only in the night and we were walking around Rome all day but I’m Not recommending to take it with breakfast included is not worth it at all.

Verified reviewWe were already in Rome and they cancelled us the the same day! Very unprofessional! They sad we had not confirmed our stay but we had all our confirmations in email.. the told us they did not have any rooms available for us! We were a family of four, parents and 13 and 15 year children and booked room with 4 beds. In the afternoon in Rome we got the final message from Vacation Planet that they did not have room for us! Although we repetedly said we wanted to come!

Owner changed the reservation 1 day before arriving by shothening 1 day. I had to find acomodation for last night on very short time and on high price of course (due to availability).

Verified reviewIt was good location and clean enough, but….
The first surprise we have got when the keys from our room I have got in the shop near Vatican planet guest house. I had to pay for our staying by CASH. Nobody warned me about it in advance. What if I didn’t have enough cash that moment? We have ordered staying with breakfast. It was strange to find out that breakfast is just croissant, coffe and juice in the cafe near guest house. No sandwiches, no tea, nothing…. I have paid for the normal breakfast, but haven’t got it. In the kitchen of this guest house was impossible to find any plate or spoon to make breakfast or lunch at the room.
