Loved the absolutely central location, beautiful apartment layout with kitchen dining lounge upstairs, bedrooms and bathroom downstairs (didn’t bother us). Aircon in each room and lounge brilliant given the July heat and humidity.

Our stay was absolutely perfect, thanks to the incredibly convenient location - just minutes away from the train station, the charming town centre, and the stunning Villa Cipressi. Hermes, the wonderful owner, went above and beyond by personally meeting us at his wine shop and treating us to a delightful welcoming wine, a truly appreciated gesture. We loved it so much that we happily extended our stay by another two days! This accommodation is also exceptionally well-suited for families.

Absolutely tip-top location if Varenna is your base. Unfortunately we had very bad weather but this apartment was our respite, kept lovely and warm. Host is excellent, comms were excellent, check in smooth. Wine shop above ( the host’s) is a bonus. Super warm shower and modern bathroom. Place on arrival was spotless and the decent coffee provided was also welcome. The apartment is spacious and on two floors which we loved as a family with teenagers.

it didn't bother us too much but for some very dark bedrooms downstairs can be trouble.

Location was great for some, windows in the bedrooms right on the alley might be a little problem but we had no issue. Host Hermes was great, he's running the wine shop right next to the apartment entrance, he's very responsive, helpful, recommended few place to eat and there were great.

One complaint for someone from England is that several of the plug sockets don't seem to accept the European adaptors bought in the UK. This seems however to be an Italian thing (as I experienced the issue elsewhere) and it's only the sockets with a sunken circle (best way I can describe it!) that work with these adapators. So it meant we could not use some of the sockets in the bedrooms etc. by the headboards but could use one or two others elsewhere in the apartment. Not a complaint but just to be aware that the bedrooms and bathroom are down a small flight of stairs from the main living room / kitchen area, so if anyone has mobility issues it's just something to be aware of - although in general if you visit Varenna you need to be ready for some climbing of steps and going uphill.

Location is superb - just a minute or two from the Varenna waterfront or the main square. I had 80 and 75 year old parents with me and they were able to enjoy the town without too much trouble (whereas many other accomodations are too far up the hill or too many steps). On more than one occasion when the weather turned I was able to quickly run up the steps from a waterside cafe to fetch my parents a cap or some sunscreen from the apartment and I'd be back sat down in a few minutes. Host has a wine shop next door and welcomed my family of 5 (one of us stayed elsewhere) with a lovely glass of white wine each. Very nice way to start our trip. Also provided us with a discount on some wine purchases which we enjoyed drinking during some movie nights in the apartment (they had Netflix and Amazon Prime!). Clean apartment and a nice view from one of the windows (can see the lake), while the others face down on the cobblestoned alleyway where you can watch the world go by. Good instructions beforehand on locating and accessing the property - I communicated with the host on WhatsApp a few days ahead of my arrival. In the end I was able to access the apartment using the keysafe without any trouble, but after dropping my stuff off I ended up meeting the host at his wineshop next door not too long after.

Hermes was a very kind host and suggesting excellent restaurants for dinner. He has a well equipped wine shop and offers wine tasting. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to enjoy the tasting, but he gave us a good price for wines we purchased!

The location was planning perfect. Varenna is beautiful lake town with excellent views and a perfect jumping off point for the lake. Hermes was an amazing host and wonderful person. We loved our stay and will definitely come again.

The pull out couch bed is not suitable for an adult but would be fine for a child. One of our party had a very uncomfortable 3 nights. There is no washing machine in the apartment (our problem as nowhere did it state there was...we wrongly assumed) however a 24 hour laundromat is very close. We missed having a toaster but made do by using the sandwich maker. Not possible to sleep with aircon on as it's too noisy. Quite a lot of street noise also in bedrooms which are very dark as at or below street level. Power sockets downstairs didn't accept our adaptors but upstairs ones did.

Hermes is a very helpful and welcoming host. Apartment is in an excellent location in Varenna. Tidy apartment as seen in pictures. The "didn't like" section is really just for people booking to be aware so expectations can be managed. Given the historical nature of the area, many of the apartments "quirks" are part and parcel of the area. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Varenna.

I wish it had an outdoor space like a balcony or rooftop. But, it was clearly stated it didn't before we arrived. The bottom bedroom airconditioner made a rattling noise as well. I eventually turned it off, and the room stayed nice and cool.

The location was ideal! We were very central to restaurants and the town. We also had plenty of space to spread out. The vaulted ceilings were a nice add. The shower had nice hot water and great water pressure. When i first arrived the owner met me and let me in, he discovered the heat had been left on and corrected it immediately.

As other people wrote in their reviews, the value is that there. I paid twice the price for the apartment then I should have. And even paying twice the price you would expect that they would have quality amenities. But they did. For example their pots and pans were scrappy and felt like they were from the thrift store. The beds were old and hard. The downstairs bedrooms and bathroom doors squeak and wake up everyone at night. The couch is completely uncomfortable and the cushion slides out from underneath you when you sit on it and then on top of it they have a cheap cover on it. All of these things could be overlooked, but when you pay twice as much money you would expect much more. I might add that it was twice as much as our accommodation in Milan, Florence, and Rome. It was three times as expensive as our accommodations in Sorrento, Rapalo and Luca on our six week vacation in Italy.
