Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Arab EmiratesEverything was really amazing to be honest.
Spending a couple of nights in a medieval tower (yet with gorgeous modern interiors and AC) in such a unique location is absolutely amazing per se, however, the real differentiator versus any other facilities nearby is the customized service provided by Sergio and Andrea. They booked a restaurant on the first day and made sure there was an available table, on the second day they picked us up from train station in La Spezia (instead of catching a cab) and arranged for a dinner under the stars with surprise menu. They were really great.

KuwaitThe place had 3 levels with too many challenging stairs, which make it difficult for non fit customers and customers with large or heavy luggage. But again It comes with the uniqueness of the place.

United StatesMy wife and I stayed at Capitolare Suite Tower for our honeymoon and had the most amazing time in Portovenere. What Andrea has done with the tower is truly magical and unique. Everything about our time there was perfect. A place we will never forget. To say the service was excellent would be an understatement. It really needs to be experienced first-hand. Thinking about visiting Cinque Terre? Make Capitolare Suite Tower in Portovenere your homebase for the region. When we arrived, Sergio greeted us at the train station in La Spezia and, from that moment forward, would help make this a special stay. Sergio is one-of-a-kind and would grace us with information, history, suggestion, and, of course, friendly conversation at all times. When he tells you to try the local breakfast of focaccia and a cappuccino at Moon Bar, do it! My wife and I owe a lot to Sergio for helping make this a trip of a lifetime. Even when it rained on one morning and something had to be canceled, the alternative to visit and the walk from San Terenzo to Lerici for lunch to Tellaro was perfection. They really care and it shows. The amount of hard work that has gone into the building and goes into your stay is worth the visit alone! Greta, the massage therapist, will help you recover from a long day and have you feeling ready for the following adventure. She was the one who suggested we visit San Terenzo, Lerici and Tellaro the night before we had rain! Rosanna and Barbara were our two chefs for a local cuisine tasting menu. They worked around an obscure and difficult food allergy that I have to prepare amazing seafood-inspired dishes from the region. Everything was to die for. The pesto making class and dinner that followed was also very unique and tasted great. Both Rosanna and Barbara were so nice and friendly that they gifted my wife a small Portovenere skyline bracelet and a very nice handwritten card!

AustraliaPortovenere receives the influx of tourists who arrive from cruise liners that stop at La Spezia. They will generally arrive by ferry at Portovenere from La Spezia ready to board the 10am ferry to Cinique Terra and Monorossa. My advice is to board the 9am ferry from Portovenere to miss the ship tour crowds. The ship crowds dispersed by late afternoon while we there and was not everyday either.. One suggestion l forgot to mention to Andrea was that it would be useful to have a place to store clothes. Some smalls shelves would fit in the bedroom and be useful(as we stayed 5 nights).
We stayed for five nights to absorb the culture and environment. It's how we like to travel. We are still able to hike the surrounding steep hills and cliffs, the town or swim so always had things to do if not resting or travelling on the ferry to Montorossa (twice). We were able to interact with some locals in the town by staying longer and this also added to our positive experience. The staff- Andrea and a key staff member, Sergio are excellent people. Honest, helpful. Informative, friendly and kind. They were there to collect us from the airport and drop us off at our next hotel in Pisa afterwards (for a reasonable fee). This was really helpful as we did not waste any time with other travel arrangements. Sergio also brought us gifts like lical wine and food that he did not need to do, just a nice touch. Andreas story about his dreams and realisation to repair and refurbish the tower is truly inspiring. The Tower- well restored and beautiful. Four levels that include many stairs(no issue for us and part of the tower experience). The bed was extremely comfortable ( l am 6foot 5). The views from the tower amazing and very high, maybe 25 metres up.the tower dates from 1160s and part of a larger defensive structure that once surrounded the town. Above the tower you can see Castello Doria the main medieval castle that is also amazing. Great sound system- Alexa. Lovely bath and bathroom. The town- beautiful main street through the old town gates to access wine shops, bakeries, gift shops and restaurants. Along the harbour more lovely restaurants bars with locals also using. There is a chemist below the tower. The breakfast- the Moon Cafe looked after us for breakfast as part of the deal. Rani and his beautiful staff were amazing as was the food. The sea- crystal clear and we swam in early May about 21degrees withe amazing swim spot with rocks and cave. Awesome coastline cliffs and no issues with sharks or deadly jellyfish here.

United StatesDue to the nature of the tower the interior walls flake and make the floor cluttered with wall trimmings. bring a pair of inside slippers. there are four floors including the rooftop and the stairs for each floor are steep and narrow and a bit tricky to navigate. other than the bed the furniture although visually really cool and modern and made from a local artist with recycled local material are not comfortable in any way.
very special experience. host was great. location was great. view was amazing. dog friendly a plus.
