How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewIdyllic charming property with spacious rooms and extremely comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Very disappointed, with Booking.com (as usual), that there is very little chance of getting on-site parking at the hotel. Luckily the staff provided excellent information of where to park which was roughly 150 yds from the accommodation entrance.

Verified reviewThe Suites & Atelier Lake Como are outstanding. The rooms are beautifully decorated with lots of extras including hairdryer and hair straighteners. The breakfast was lovely and the location was perfect, just a few minutes walk from the lake and all local attractions and amenities. We also had a gorgeous lake view and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Perfect place for our trip and time in Lake Como. Highly recommend.

Pulled up to the most congested area I’ve ever been at. Zero parking, total nightmare. It was so ridiculous I just ate the bill and left and continued to Grindelwald where we were going anyway. This was a stop along the way from selva di Val Gardena to grindelwald. Probably a nice hotel, but I am not putting up with the congestion. It was bad enough I just ate the $450 bill. Wouldn’t ever stay here because of congestion. Yeah it’s Como, I’ll never mess with this again. Now I know why my price dropped $100 from The time I booked it. 300 people in line for a ferry right in front of the hotel.

As we informed you at the time, had we been able to resell the room, we would have gladly issued a refund. Your rating reflects not an actual experience at our property, but a moment of frustration entirely unrelated to the quality of our service or our hotel itself. As you yourself mention, you never stayed – you left within 10 minutes. Our hotel is located on a closed street, and while Como can be busy in high season, this is unfortunately something outside of our control – and, we believe, not a fair reason to penalize an establishment you never experienced. We respond to this review not out of defensiveness, but because we are increasingly held hostage by reviews born out of personal frustration rather than objective assessment. The access which was behind a restaurant which sometimes smelt a bit and there are quite high steps leading up to the room and a couple within the room which if you struggled with stairs would be a problem however the room was lovely.

Verified reviewExtremely overpriced, this place was presented as private suites however it more resembled an Airbnb with flimsy keypads for the doors, the rooms we had were dark and musty, perhaps the other suites in the complex are nicer but ours were located in the back over an alley directly over the trash cans so when you open the windows the smell of trash came directly into to our room, the worst part about this property was that they dont have secure parking, if i had known this i never would have booked this because our car was broken into and everything was stolen (cells phone, identity, clothes, shoes, EVERYTHING) the theives even tried to break into the lock box to the property as i found it broken in the morning. in one of the rooms, there were tiny flying bugs and my son had trouble sleeping. what i have written here is completely accurate. not exaggerating. and not defamatory. your employee was so rude to me in the morning when i tried to explain to her why my son had to sleep there and i willingly paid the fee for the extra person. i wish i had booked in a hotel with better service and with secure parking. the theft destroyed the rest of my trip and you dare ask why i didnt pick up the phone when you called me. I HAVE NO PHONE, my email was locked for one week, my bank accounts have been hacked into, my business accounts all locked. it has been a nightmare. my review is accurate of MY EXPERIENCE, maybe your other guests have a good time and enjoy your property but i am entitled to my opinion about MY EXPERIENCE HERE. so dont threaten me to remove the review. i have added details here to explain my complaints. also we did not empty the minibar we removed the items and left them on the desk so we could put our own water bottles in the refrigerator. shame on you.

To date, we have not received any visual evidence, either during or after your stay.We are waiting the photo on our phone. You have written to us from your phone number at 08:38 on check-out date. Do you remember? We have the screen. Private parking is available: Our property offers a private, video-monitored garage. This service can be booked in advance. Unfortunately, there is no record of you requesting it. Over-occupancy not allowed: Please note that, for public safety reasons, it is not permitted to accommodate five guests in a room that is not authorized for that capacity. This is clearly stated by current regulations. Theft and liability: We are truly sorry for what happened. However, we cannot be held responsible for a theft that occurred outside the property, nor for any consequences involving your bank accounts or personal devices. Finally, we must reiterate that your claims about the presence of mold and insects are completely unfounded, extremely offensive, and, in our view, defamatory. We understand that every guest is entitled to share their experience, but this must be done with respect for the truth and for the reputation of others. There is not a single trace of mold anywhere in our property, a fact that can be verified by any inspection. We take hygiene and maintenance extremely seriously, and your statements are not only untrue, but damaging. “Car was broken into” – We are sincerely sorry for what happened, but your vehicle was not parked in our private garage, nor within the boundaries of our property. To imply otherwise—especially to suggest it occurred under our responsibility—is false and misleading. “Bed covered with bugs” – Once again, this is a completely false claim. Our rooms are inspected daily, and no such problem has ever been reported. We contacted you twice by phone asking for photographic evidence—you never responded. In fact, you blocked our number. We also wrote to you via Booking.com, without receiving any reply. If this were a legitimate concern, why refuse all communication? Now let us address your behavior: You booked a room for four people. You arrived in five. Despite our clear explanation that housing an extra guest would be against Italian law, your group proceeded to have the fifth person illegally stay overnight in the accommodation. Our staff member, arriving at 6:00 AM, confirmed the violation. This is not only a breach of house rules, but a direct violation of local hospitality regulations. At check-out, you failed to declare that you had emptied the minibar. We verified this immediately after your departure and charged the amount to your credit card. Your silence on this point speaks volumes. We do not tolerate false accusations, violations of the law, or dishonesty. We reserve the right to defend our image and the integrity of our business in all appropriate legal venues, including reporting this review to the relevant platform for defamatory content.
