We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IrelandIt’s not really a house, but a ground floor flat in a building of 3 flats. Not a problem but good to know.
Superb view of Lake Como, lovely well-kept garden and air conditioning makes this place a beautiful respite from the heat and tourists. Vezio Castle can be seen from the garden and is a short walk along cute paths and narrow streets. There is even a choice of restaurants a short walk away and a free bus back up the hill from the town below in the evening. The kids loved playing on the slide and with the little dog and the bunk beds were a hit! Roberto was a great help to find the place.

United KingdomAccess to two other properties (same building) through the outside space. This isn't overly intrusive but caused our dog to bark (luckily he is very friendly, just a bit boisterous and excitable). Only a small thing but just something to consider if you book with a dog. The outside space is not otherwise shared as there are seperate areas.
Stunning views. Well equipped accommodation. Lovely to have so much outside space. Parking very close to property. Smooth check in. Helpful owner who lives above so is on hand for any advice or support if needed. Dog friendly. The owners have a lovely playful little dog too. A nice bonus for our labrador!

United KingdomA kitchen paper roll and a pan would have been useful. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with just a few small things that could be improved.
Vezio Hill House had a stunning view and a lovely terrace—definitely the highlight of our stay. The place was generally clean, though not spotless. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the host was very friendly and welcoming.

KuwaitProperty on Top of a Hill, with steep up & down walk
We had a lovely stay in Varenna, Lake Como. The property is a bit older but very clean and well-maintained. The highlight was definitely the breathtaking view and the peaceful garden — perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The air conditioning was also a big plus during the warm summer days. One thing to note is that the house is located on a hill, a bit away from the town center. The walk can be steep and challenging, especially with luggage. However, this potential downside was more than made up for by our amazing host, Roberto. He was incredibly kind, supportive, and helpful — picking us up when we arrived and dropping us off when we left, which made everything so much easier. Overall, we would absolutely recommend this place. If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic spot in Varenna with a helpful and welcoming host, this is a great choice!

United StatesThe property is exactly as stated and pictures show. The views were spectacular. The hosts were warm, friendly, and helpful, including picking you up from the train station so that you don’t have to manage how to get your luggage up to the house. The apartment is close to Castello Vezio and in the evening there is a free shuttle from Varenna up to Vezio. You definitely need to be mobile for this location. The hike down to Varenna is a 10 minute path/stairs and it is not long but you having the physical ability to do it is a must.

CanadaThis property as the name says is high up on the hill. It is a bit of a hike to get up to it. We were on bicycles so it was a steep climb at the end of the day. We hadn’t realized how much climbing would be necessary when we booked it as the location appeared in a different place when we looked it up.
This property was very peaceful and a lovely place to relax. Roberto’s wife shared some of a local pasta dish with us which was greatly appreciated. It made the stay that much more personal. We had breakfast at a hotel and it was very good with lots of fresh fruit. The castle is very close. The apartment is well appointed and there was tea and coffee offered which was really appreciated.

United StatesThe language barrier was tricky at times but we made it work. I don’t speak any Italian but Roberto does ok with English so that was helpful.
The view was amazing and Roberto was very helpful getting us to and from train station. There is a free night bus from the train station to a drop off very near the house.

Our stay at Vezio Hill House was absolutely unforgettable. The view was spectacular and truly one of the most amazing I’ve ever seen – peaceful, panoramic, and perfect for relaxing. The host was incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. They even picked us up from the train station when we arrived and kindly took us back in the morning of departure, which made everything so easy and stress-free. They gave us lots of great advice about the area, what to see, and how to get around. You can really feel how much they care about their guests. I will definitely come back again – highly recommended to anyone visiting the Varenna area!

AustraliaOnly because one of us was sick, it was quite hard for them to walk up and down the steep streets to places. But that high up view knowingly comes with the need to be mobile or be organised enough to get transport
The location and view was amazing. The host was very kind and trusting. Amenities fine for our young family if 4 with kids just pre teen.

Vezio Hill is at the top of a hill as the name suggests. When driving there you may feel like it’s a bit far from Varenna and the lake. But in fact, there is a shortcut for pedestrians! Two (albeit a bit steep) foot paths link the village (Vezio) with the lakeside (Varenna). One of them takes 15 minutes and is scenic, the other one is a bit longer (30+ minutes) but you get to enjoy nice views on the lake. The advantage of being up the hill is that the views from Vezio Hill House are absolutely gorgeous, and Roberto and his family are super friendly and made us feel very welcome. They are so generous and made their best. They recommended restaurants, visits, gave us a local map and helped with parking. There is a castle only a few minutes walk from the accommodation. It’s definitely worth a visit.

He picked us up from my train station and dropped us off on our check out date. If you are looking for a serene vacation this is the place to book. Yes, walking up the road can be hectic but it is well worth it.
